I've been reading about Mars contacts in synastry for a while and supposedly the general idea is that the Mars person stimulates the planet person (I'm referring to the easier and flowing aspects, sextile and trine.)

But one thing that's still not clear to me is who is the activator of the attraction? I know that Mars is supposed to represent an ideal. Is the Mars person generally supposed to be drawn to the planet person or does the planet person see Mars as the ideal?

I don't know about Mars representing an ideal. I think of it more as this primal energy -- aggressive, assertive, passionate, impulsive. It runs on instinct. So when Mars is aspecting a planet in someone else's chart, their Martian nature is activated whenever the other person acts out the qualities of their planet. For instance, in a Mars/Mercury aspect, the Mars person becomes stimulated by the Mercury person's words, thoughts, ideas, and ways of communicating... in positive aspect, this could manifest as inspiration or a strong impulse to talk and exchange ideas. (In negative aspect, it'd most likely be bickering and fighting).

I don't know if that answered your question at all, but generally it is the Mars person who feels the Mars energy when in aspect to someone else's planet.

That actually makes a lot of sense, thanks. It's reasonable seeing as the other planet would stimulate and activate the Mars nature of the person.

I just read different theories that vaguely contradict each other. Some say that Mars represents the masculine ideal (but I don't go for stereotypical ideas in relation to gender) and that the other planet unconsciously seeks the Mars person or vice versa.

Mars brings Mars energy, the other planet brings its own energies. They blend together and influence each other.

Think what happens when Mars and Mars interact. You get two people with different ways of going about things working together. If it's an opposition - like in my relationship - it is creating a balance. If it's Square, it's dynamic and forces a compromise or explodes in fireworks. etc. and so forth.

In synastry, I believe that both people feel things equally, not more from the other because when a planet falls into a house, this house is activated for both of them because the planet person plays out the energy from the house. They both feel it the same, it can't go one way, that doesn't make sense. As far as Mars connecting to planets go, I'd say the planet person feels Mars' energy.

receptive planets are moon venus neptune.

I mean like moon receives. sum conjunct venus so to speak.
sun acts venus loves everything about the sun

mars usually takes action to get to venus

A Mars/Mars conjunction is a powerful aspect and has both positive and negative potential. It suggests sexual coordination, your drives are basically in tune. But it also means you react in similar manners to being challenged and when angered. It can also indicate an ego conflict. But if handled well, it could just be about coordination, you could easily harmonize your actions as an unity and focus on a goal.

i've seen this go both ways ~ i know youre talking of generally harmonious aspects but with sun and mars it seems its the sun going after the mars person, with mercury mars it seems its mercury that becomes inflamed, venus mars i'll put that on the mars person in my experience if the aspect is easy.
