Eric Francis:
"Nessus has the distinction of being the first planet ever named by astrologers. In the late 90s, a committee of minor planet astrologers including Melanie Reinhart, Zane Stein, Dieter Koch and Robert von Heeren, proposed the name to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the official body that approves the names of new discoveries. The name was accepted. This was an unprecedented example of full cooperation between the usually-sundered arts of astrology and astronomy.

Nessus is a planet that addresses the healing of abuse patterns. The abuse can be psychological, physical or sexual in nature; it can be 'potentially inappropriate' contact or behavior; and it can involve revenge. Nessus has themes that feel like 'the return of karma' and what goes around comes around. Actions have consequences, but you can almost always discover the source. Nessus is a very good diagnostic tool in handling situations with these themes. It shows us where and how we've been hurt in the past, and how we're likely to hurt others -- and how we can heal those hurts."

and

"Nessus speaks of two kinds of abuse: one, the insidious kind that doesn't seem like it later on. The other, the kind that was obviously so. Both are about the same thing, and yet in the not-so-obvious kind, there is the problem of not really having a sense of the scale of what happened. Abuse and neglect suffered unconsciously are that much further out of the reach of healing. Bringing them to awareness is often the last thing we want. Dealing consciously with abuse means dealing consciously with the fact of an abuser. In the case of a loved family member, or a family situation that will be challenged or totally disrupted by the fact that we were harmed by them, or by the revelation of a secret that has been guarded for generations, it's natural to be extremely reluctant to proceed, even if we really need to. Family politics can push us down and make the task seem daunting and even stupid. Especially if that abuse or neglect was just a "product of the times." Of course, often, it was much, much more... when Sun or Moon is conj Nessus the native never feels safe..."

___________________________________________

It seems that Nessus brings opportunities to understand and release deep patterns of helplessness, being taken advantage of, and being oppressed. This is particularly relevant for people raised in a culture where they are in a minority group. Nessus processes really do seem to bring to an end the unfathomable ties that bind us to people, places, and situations. We can psychoanalyses our bonds, do 'tie cutting exercises', sweat and strain to be free of situations which burn with relentless continuity, but only when such endeavors are in harmony with the deeper timing of the soul will they result in deep release.

Nessus falls under the classification of centaur like Chiron,Pholus. It's not an asteroid

they are rock, ice objects that are believed to originate from the kuiper belt region that's beyond Neptune.

they have orbits that are slower than Saturn.

Their orbits are highly eccentric, and so they are nonconformists.

Nessus is named after the mythical centaur who was slain by Heracles with a Hydra blood-poisoned arrow after trying to kidnap Deijaneira after offering to carry her across the river. Out of revenge, Nessus tricked Deijaneira into believing his blood was a love potion and got her to save his blood and to put it on one of Heracles' tunics if he ever seems to stray.

Deijaneira followed his advice after Heracles asked for a tunic in preparation for a ceremony. He had conquered a city,

Nessus seems about "bad blood" figuratively and literally. It also seems to deal with matters and issues with helping others, possessiveness, coveting, sex, rape

Nessus links the orbit of Saturn and Pluto

it's a bride between the physical and metaphysical realms...in Pluto's case, transformation.

Saturn/Pluto midpoint is said to be Nessus-sensitive. That means that an aspect to that midpoint is like an aspect to Nessus.

Nessus was the first object whose name was proposed by astrologers and was accepted by astrologers. So you can see the bridge between the physical and the metaphysical.

Nessus: Ferryman at the River Evenus. Orbital Period: 120.76 yr.

Positive - generous, benevolent, compassionate, willing to lend a helping hand, cooperative, respectful of boundaries, aware of the power of life force energy, healthy use of sexual energy

Negative - coveting, possessive, jealous, vengeful, manipulative, resorting to negative alchemy for personal gain, negative use of sexual energy

Mundane - bad blood between parties, feuds over money especially regarding relationship dissolution, diseases transmitted by blood, transport ferries over water, potions, tonics and elixirs designed to cast spells, therapy specifically designed for healing sexual or monetary issues

Ceremonial - prosperity ceremonies, sexual healing rituals, ceremonies involving Earth fertility

Again, an interesting asteroid. I asked a similar question in the asteroid-"UNION"-thread already...

We have ONE GUY, torn between two Ladys (A & B). If you study their respective NESSUS-connections ... What would you think? Which love story would be more hurtful - or more substantial? Which would be easier to handle for the guy? Which Lady would (potentially) be more hurt?

orbs: 0-3 dg.

Lady A:

HIS "NESSUS"
- cj. A's Chiron
- cj. A's Sisyphus
- cj. A's Nostalgia
- sextile A's Anacreon
- sextile A's Casanova
- trine A's Vertex
- trine A's Nymphe
- square A's Amor
- square A's Ceres
- square A's Damocles
- oppose A's Saturn

A's "NESSUS"
- cj. his Sun
- cj. his Mercury
- cj. his Sisyphus
- cj. his Achilles
- sextile his Sun/Moon-Midpoint
- sextile his Adonis
- sextile his Amanda
- sextile his Circe
- sextile his Pt. of Love
- sextile his Pt. of Weddings
- trine his Hera
- trine his Fantasia
- square his Aphrodite
- square his Passion
- square his Clinch
- square his Veritas
- oppose his Karma

Lady B:

HIS "NESSUS"
- cj. her Karma
- cj. her Ophelia
- cj. her Pax
- sextile her Mercury
- sextile her Chiron
- sextile her Concordia
- sextile her Don Quixote
- sextile her Discovery
- trine her Uranus
- trine her Sun/Moon-Midpoint
- trine her Pt. of Catastrophe
- square her North Node
- square her Venus
- square her Helena
- square her Zeus
- square her Victoria
- oppose her Urania
- oppose her Phoinix

B's "NESSUS"
- cj. his MC
- cj. his Anteros
- cj. his Pt. of Romance
- sextile his Moon
- sextile his Actor
- sextile his Plays
- sextile his Pandora
- sextile his Martir
- sextile his Pt. of Identity
- sextile his Pt. of Chaos
- trine his Cupido
- trine his Poseidon
- trine his Destiny
- trine his Damocles
- square his ASC/DSC
- square his Saturn
- square his Pluto
- square his Fanatica
- square his Nemesis
- square his Humptydumtpy
- square his Pt. of Foolhardiness
- square his Pt. of Enemies
- oppose his IC
- oppos his Pt. of Talent

Is it that HE's gonna hurt Lady A? And will be hurt himself by Lady B? What's YOUR impression from this? Any ideas would be appreciated! ;-)

Nessus is not an asteroid. It's a centaur

centaurs have orbits that are much longer than asteroids.

a synastry aspect to an asteroid is personal relates to the personal/social perspective

a synastry aspect a centaur relates to the social/generational perspective

I am very sorry that happened to you.
You're much better off without him.

Nessus isn't necessarily bad though.
It's that some people use Nessus energy in bad ways.

That's the same with all objects in our solar system.

Thank you Peri and Glaucus. I've think much about Nessus now becuase .....and it's so strong in my chart.

My 2 exhusbands have in their both charts the Lilith exact in conj to my moon/nessu.
My on and off loves and his nessus conj my N moon and N nessus. But nessus moves so slow so many people with their N nessus trigg my N moon/nessus. Also many people in my year have the square from nessus to saturn and also in square to the generation uranus/pluto in virgo.
Strange but in anycase I love when people trigg my soul and deep.
My destinn conj psyche in aqua trine my moon conj nessus. I get out much of it. My intuition are strong.
I've never be in the psychiatry and take any psychodrugs in my life. Only in short period eat gastric catarrh medicin In hard period when I not listening on my feelings. Strange and truth for me are that I get painfeelings when I'm not listening. Nessus/moon give me strong increased marking, indication there is something wrong. If I think I should make somethink and its wrong that bring me so intense feelings so I cant deny what I feel. What ever I feel the most of the time the life force me on the right way. Also strange the life not force me on the bad way becasue the nessus says be so bad. I love my job and the people I have around me.
The psycological problems who works out through the nessus must stand up to others. I cant se it work on the tragic way in my life as I see describes before on the other thread.
Of course I've bad days as everyone else and sometimes I also feel me depressed but not in that case I need help. For me I've the bad days and they are temporary passing.

I think it must be a more realistic picture on nessus.

BET (Black Entertainment Network)
was launched on Jan 25 1980

Black Entertainment Television is an American cable network based in Washington D.C., and targets young African-American audiences. The network launched on January 25, 1980 by its founder Robert L. Johnson. Most programming of the network comprises mainstream rap and R&B music videos and urban-oriented movies and series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Entertainment_Television

using a noon chart
Washington, DC

Nessus in 16'27 Cancer
square Ceres in 15'13 Aries
square Eris in 13'54 Aries

In Right Ascension (Equatorial Longitude) which is the coordinate that astronomers use to locate objects in the sky:

Nessus in 20'18 Cancer
square Eris in 20'17 Aries

BET is very controversial. Some people say that BET is racist because it's a television network mainly for black people.

But BET was created during a time when very blacks had opportunities in entertainment

just like Miss Black America was created during a time when only white women were allowed to compete in the pageant.

I don't think the Nessus is necessarily bad. It was bad for people who thought black entertainment network was a bad thing. It was good for people who thought "thank god....a lot more choices for black people"
