As I study more synastries, I've noticed that conjunctions involving angles or nodes are deeply significant. And, thanks to a link Raymond posted about Nodes, I now know that angles (like the ASC) are actually nodes. It makes sense.

I am wondering, then, whether house cusps are also important energy points in synastry, creating greater intensity than a planet simply falling into a house.

For example, say in synastry that my Karma is conjunct with someone's 9th house cusp. Maybe that would intensify how our relationship would effect him in terms of 9th house issues. OR it could mean that he would simply feel my Karma in both his 8th and 9th houses.

Then again, I guess conjunctions to the four major angles (AC, DC, MC, IC) of cardinal houses would still be a lot more significant than conjunctions to the cusps of other houses.

"The transpersonal school", a German astrology school, uses aspects to the housecusps, too (mostly conjunction, square, solstice points), but keeps the degree at 1 degree.

The problem with it is, that you ahve to have a rectified birthchart and of course the aspects change depending on the housesystem you use. They exclusively use Placidus or Topocentric houses.

Personally, yes, I think planets directly on the cusp may be important.

I think the House System problem goes beyond looking at house cusps--I mean, if I switch from the Placidus to the Equal House system, my Jupiter changes houses!!! Which is a big deal when you think about it, and one of the things that makes me skeptical about astrology. There are so many different astrological practices--sometimes I think a skilled intuitive and/or someone skilled with working with metaphor can "find" anything we want to in a chart. Both my Placidus and Equal House Jupiter placements make a lot of sense and seem very accurate. Then again, I have encountered some astrologers whose readings are uncannily accurate and insightful using only technical skill (ie, just working with a chart without outside suggestion.)

Technically, the angles are just house cusps, right? It's just that those house cusps are considered most important, I guess.

The Midheaven/Imum Coeli and Ascendant/Descendant axises stay the same no matter what houses system that you use

Cosmobiologists don't use houses because they are skeptical of them, but they use Midheaven/Imum Coeli and Ascendant/Descendant axis. They incorporate the meanings of the Imum Coeli into the Midheaven and the meanings of the Descendant into the Ascendant.

except for in the Meridian house system

the Ascendant/Descendant axis is different

it's know as the East Point/West Point axis
also known as the Equatorial Ascendant/Descendant axis

Midheaven/Imum Coeli axis stays the same

whole sign house system is the oldest. Vedic Astrologers use it.
