15:24 Capricorn Moon and Cancer Sun

Lunar Eclipse Full Moon

The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse takes place as the Moon gets ready to set in the western sky right before dawn on the East Coast of the United States. Aside from being darned early, the chart for the Moon offers us an opportunity to become wiser and release things that no longer work for us.

Eclipses are like can-can dances ~ the Sun, Moon and Earth all line up in a row and dance together, kicking up their heels. They also kick up our emotions, feelings and cause us to dance with either joy, fear or the sense of change. Eclipses seem to make things happen ~ they are juicier. Things hanging on by a thread break, snap or release. Hidden things come to light. Boils are lanced. Fights erupt. Changes happen. All lunations are important as we are guided most profoundly by the two lights in our sky. However, eclipse lunations are particularly important. The cosmic lights are aligned with earth and thus our beings. Our destiny seems to shift and change on eclipses. The points in our charts that determine our destiny, the nodes of karma, are active and making major changes in our lives.

This year we have THREE, instead of the usual TWO eclipses. We have a Full moon eclipse, new moon eclipse and full moon eclipse on the World Axis. The first lunar eclipse, or full moon eclipse ~ as the MOON's light gets blocked by the Earth's shadow moving across her face ~ is now. It takes place a few days after the birth of the United States and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As a result, we can expect many changes in our Country's collective culture as well as in our own lives and charts.

Since we've been in eclipse season, we've lost a few celebrities such as Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden and Michael Jackson. Famous in our country, they are lights that no longer shine. We can expect quite a few more changes or leavings in our collective culture as well as in the home front. Cancer is the sign of the family. Capricorn is the sign of the structures we are to build in this life. The Sun during the eclipses is on the South Node ~ which is a releasing or ending energy rather than a creating and bringing in energy. We are asked to release that which no longer serves us or helps us. We can expect to hear of many divorces, separations, moves, relocations, partings, endings, closings, terminations as well as deaths. The time to pull the plug is now. It is a cosmic wrap so to speak.

The point of the endings and releases is because we are about to move seriously and earnestly into Pluto in Capricorn. The situations, relationships and people that end or leave us now are not supposed to make the journey through Capricorn with us in quite the same way. They have a different path for the next chapters ahead. They are moving into a new life of their own. In the case of a death, we've finished the current life's physical karma with the person. Of course, we will continue to carry them in our heart and mind but we don't get to talk to or hang out with them. In the case of ending, separating or changing relationships, they, or we, have separate paths ahead, not traveling down the same road in quite the same manner.

The point of the eclipses is not to "punish" you or take away something. The point is to help you get clear on what you need to include for the next chapter of your life. Eclipses clear out stuff, including relationships, that need to change. The relationship needs to change on BOTH sides so BOTH of you can have the life you were supposed to have. However, eclipses can and will bring you to your knees if you are NOT doing your work or agreeing to change and grow. In that way, eclipses can feel a bit punishing.

Eclipses can also bring you to your knees emotionally in an area that needs to be cosmically cleansed. A giant whooshing sucking sound as the old energy spins around and goes down the drain.

The eclipse is taking place in two of the most sensitive parts of your chart ~ Cancer and Capricorn. Cancer is, of course, ruled by the moon and represents the deepest and most primal yearning, urges and emotions we have. It is the cosmic connection we have to mother ~ primal desires that took place before we had words. Nurture. Primal Nuture. The breast that truly feeds and satisfies us.

What is nurture to you? Cancer is all the chthonic, unexpressed, need to suckle at the source of life for each of us. When there is a war and soldiers are bleeding and dying on the battlefield, they call out for their MOTHERS! It is that level of emotional need we will be working with. Part of you is going to FEEL like it is dying ~ and truth be told it is. That part of you is going to call out for your mother. And YOU HAVE TO NURTURE YOURSELF.

Additionally, the Full Moon in Cancer is Out of Bounds ~ making the emotional nature even more expansive, extensive and profoundly bottomless than usual. We are going to be riding a full wave of feelings on this eclipse.

Unfortunately, maternal comfort is in short supply right now.

Cosmic and regular moms are busy taking care of some one else right now. You are on your own. You ABSOLUTELY HAVE to NURTURE yourself during this eclipse. The temptation will be there to slip into bad old habits like drinking, drugging and smoking as the emotional stress builds and the need to be comforted grows.

Please support yourself and the progress you've made in your life to NOT slip back into bad habits but to move forward. You have to nurture yourself on this Full Moon. It is part of the purpose of the eclipse. Cancer Sun answers to the Moon in Capricorn giving a harshness to the nurturing requested. It is nurturing that meets your physical needs but not the deeper emotional needs. You have to meet your own deeper emotional needs.

The other part of the eclipse is taking place in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn. The eclipse Moon is ruled by Saturn in Virgo. And what a critical cold energy that Virgoan Saturn ruled Capricorn Moon has! It is a suck it up and get on with it Moon. A no whining Moon. A critical, unsupportive, do the work and behave yourself kind of Moon. A pay attention to the process, analyze the situation, and be strategic while focusing and not paying attention to your emotional fears. The downside of the Moon has a sense of being criticized or picked on and feeling like you have a very thin skin about the whole matter. Virgo is sensitive to criticism. It will feel like the world is full of critics ~ and it is. It will feel like the world is criticizing you ~ and it is. The point of the criticism is for YOU to get clear on YOUR stuff ~ not theirs or their criticisms. The critical nature of the world might make you want to retreat into your Cancer crab shell. That is not a bad idea actually.

Eclipses also bring things to light that we didn't know. The seeding New Moon for this eclipse took place in January 2008. Go read the New Moon column on this website or in the newsletter to see what that Moon was for. In this Full Moon eclipse, we also find Mercury very active. Mercury is out of bounds in Cancer, in the 12th house of secrets and highly aspected. He has no limits on himself and is spilling the goods. He's telling the secrets. He's dishing the dirt. He's searching through the papers and finding the hidden gems of information. The puzzle pieces are falling into place. Mercury is going to "slip" and let fly a bon mot that reveals a previously held secret. It is time for you to know about the secret. It will help make sense of things.

Mercury is on the part of Cancer in the Full Moon chart so we can expect medical diagnoses that change our lives. The Moon and Sun are dancing with Arachne so we can see how the web we've woven, the choices we've made, known or unknown, have gotten us to this point in our life.

All good webs, spider or otherwise, can be broken or rewoven, once we know they are there ~ catching us in their threads. Or we can continue to weave the web we have woven, using the same pattern. WE can weave on to the next logical conclusion. You are being presented with a cosmic opportunity to change the pattern you are weaving in your life. You are responsible both for what you do and what you don't do. The Catholics call it omission and commission. The don't dos are probably a bit louder. But perhaps the do are talking too. Mercury is going to point out to you HOW you created the situation you are in. Now that you know THAT part, you can decide what you want to do about changing it.

Mars is on Algol ~ one of the nastier stars in the heavens. That is a fixed star of losing your head or your temper or turning what you look at into stone. Medusa's eye ~ she of the snake head that could turn men and women into stone merely by gazing at her. Medusa's in the room. Mars brings the energy of Medusa square to the Gang of Three ~ Neptune, Jupiter and Chiron in Aquarius. Mars is sextile to Uranus. What can happen with that placement is someone offers you excellent advice and you get completely IRRITATED with them for helping you solve your problem. Or you decide to turn them to stone. See that part about the Moon being thin skinned and exceptionally sensitive to criticism. It doesn't matter if you are thin skinned and sensitive. They are probably quite correct ~ or at the very least there is a gem of a good idea in there. You are not in the mood to hear it but you ought to listen. Before you go discarding good ideas or even bad ideas, give them a solid and sound hearing. While you are NOT in the mood to listen to them, they are actually right. And it is a pretty terrific idea ~ or at least part of it is. It will solve your problem.

Saturn is joined with Ceres at the bottom of the chart and forming a trine with the Capricorn Moon. This is actually a great Moon to change your habits on. Or to release bad habits ~ so quit smoking. Stop being a couch potato and exercise more. Let go of the extra sugar and white food that is making you puffy. Do release spaces on things that don't support you to move forward through the eclipse. When in doubt, take it out!

There is not a lot of fire in the sky so you can find yourself low energy and a bit depressed or perhaps even bed bound. Light candles to add some fire. Read or do inspirational things to ignite the spark. Find passionate drumming circles to raise the energy and get it moving. Add laughter and humor to the mix. Make some plans about what you'll do when you get out. Get out! Lay in the sun ~ if you can find any.

Use the saying "Take what works for you and leave the rest behind" on this Full Moon. Release. Release. Release. And if you can't release, no worries. There are two more eclipses right behind this one that will help you get there.

Lynda Hill's interpretation of the Sabian Image for the Cancer Sun is A MAN STUDYING A MANDALA IN FRONT OF HIM, WITH THE HELP OF A VERY ANCIENT BOOK

Commentary: The Symbol 'A Man Studying a Mandala in Front of Him' shows someone intent on gaining insight and meaning through 'Study'. He is 'Studying' a 'Mandala' which may be in the form of a picture, design or structure. This can be anything from an astrology chart, to an architectural drawing to a sacred image, etc. The 'Mandala' is often a collection of ideas and possibilities, experiences and lessons, and history and mythology. These things can be presented as a kind of tapestry. He is 'Studying' this 'With the Help of a Very Ancient Book'; it has clues and answers from ages past. Looking to the "secret mysteries" can reveal answers to life's questions, and how best to proceed.

Oracle: You may be attempting to understand what all these, "secret mysteries", mentioned above, may mean in the current context, and applying it to the relevance of today. You may be puzzled by the deeper meanings of the subject you're 'Studying' or trying to unravel. Reverting to traditional answers is not always easy in the present day. The key to deciphering these mysteries is in traditional knowledge and wisdom. Adopting a plan or a strategy is a good idea, as is following "the rules of the book". With devices like the Internet and television, the quicker options are usually chosen. These methods have their merits, but they can be enhanced further when teamed up with the older, more tried and true answers. Perhaps you feel "boxed in" by your situation. You must seek what is already known in order to understand what's happening. If a plan is adopted, make sure it is based on sound principles and everything should work out. Patience, research and respect for the past are all vital elements here. A teacher is likely to appear. Much will be learnt and revealed.

Keywords: Concentration. Overcoming obstacles by gaining control of one's inner and outer life. Architecture and strategic planning. Lessons to be learnt from history. Astrology, numerology, tarot. Systems of thought that are laid out. Maps. The rules of warfare-anything with a strategy. Drawing strength and inspiration from squares and circles. Inward attention. Mandalas.

The Caution: Ignoring the old wisdom for modern rational systems. Lack of imagination. Going into a situation unorganized and unplanned. Trying to gain the better of others by out strategizing them. Not wanting to put in the work.

We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims. Buckminster Fuller

Can't nothing make your life work if you ain't the architect. Terry McMillan

I have an existential map; it has "you are here" written all over it. Steven Wright

God is in the details. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Well, back to the drawing board. Peter Arno

But how shall I get ideas? Keep your wits open! Observe! Observe! Study! Study! But above all, Think! Think! And when a noble image is indelibly impressed upon the mind-Act! Orison Swett Marden

A structure becomes architectural, and not sculptural, when its elements no longer have their justification in nature. Guillaume Apollinaire

Lynda Hill's interpretation of the Sabian Image for the Capricorn Moon is SCHOOL GROUNDS FILLED WITH BOYS AND GIRLS IN GYMNASIUM SUITS

Commentary: 'School Grounds Filled With Boys and Girls in Gymnasium Suits' brings to mind images of youthful people, doing their exercises, playing with and enjoying each other on a physical level. The 'Boys and Girls' learn how to interact with each other in the 'School Grounds'. There is the sense that they are having fun, regardless of their individual level of fitness. Some will be very good at sports and be the stars in the 'Gym' whilst others are there because they want to join in the fun or because they are instructed to be there and have no choice. Many of their relationship lessons are first learn here.

Oracle: This Symbol asks whether you've been neglecting your physical well-being of late. Now is a good time to reestablish an affinity with your body and your vitality. Spontaneous enthusiasm and the joy of being truly "alive" and youthful can regenerate, revive and bring about carefree contact with like-minded people. Nourishing the body with good nutrition, being in the outdoors, enjoying the company of others and the competition of sport can enliven everyone's spirits. Physical exercise is a necessary part of the education of young people's minds and bodies. Giving youth the opportunity to learn how to play sport and the benefits of the concepts of "fair play" amongst peers leads to a healthy society. However, discipline may need to be brought into this situation. Children picking on others for things such as not being clever physically, or not having a perfect body, etc., should be discouraged as everyone has their own special talents and needs. With this Symbol, there can be a form of "conscription" where one has to wear a uniform when they may not want to.

Keywords: Developing muscular coordination. Sexual energy, attraction or satisfaction. Playing, marching, competition, rivalry. Singing songs of unity. New anthems for the young. The search for identity. Being able to accomplish things on the physical level. Physical fitness. Uniforms and uniformity. Gymnasiums. Exercise equipment. Conscription. Being one of many.

The Caution: Physical showing off for sexual attention. Relationships based on purely physical or sexual attraction. Having to do things that one isn't capable of physically doing.

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. Muhammad Ali

Love her, thanks for posting!

This seems like good advice:

The eclipse will be right on my ASC/DC axis.

I heard that one of the three wont happen again for another 200 years or so, that makes it significant.and i dont like the sound of the one on my sun, moon, node

I am not feeling well and its the day before the eclipse !

I fell ill all of a sudden when i was well 2 days ago

And whats with all the deaths, it must be a combination of individual as well as transit effects right ?

We cannot let political correctness come in the way of truth. Some people have superior past lives for reasons chosen by the Higher Self, thats it. It need not give a superiority complex to them in the present nor should it give an inferiority complex to others who do not recall regal past lifelines.

The total eclipse of the sun (July 22nd) will be the longest until 2132, I read. The longest in all of the 21st century! Why people everywhere aren't jumping up and down about this, I have no idea.

The lunar eclipse will take place in my 8th house, near my Moon and square just about everything in my chart everywhere, haha.

Thanks for this article!

I hope you feel better soon, VenusDeLionesse... maybe if anything you'll just have a little flu on that day.

I have this eclipse in my 8th house too... except it is conjunct my Mars and transiting Mars is in my 12th. I suppose a scenario is that buried aggression might come to the surface... or maybe unexpected hanky panky because the moon will also trine my venus and t. venus is also in the 12th. The one occurring on the 22nd is also conjunct my Sun, opp Moon and square Pluto, while t. Mars is conjunct Ascendant... and the eclipse on Aug 6th will be conjunct my MC 0 degrees. Golly gee gosh.

You'll have to tell me what goes on during the 7th for you aquarian/scorpio!

I have yet to read this ~ I'm just bumping the thread, because the eclipse was today.

I've felt pretty awful over the past few days - this after feeling mostly great for a while. The eclipses have been hitting personal points for me, the last one in February hitting the day before our dog collapsed (and had to be put to sleep on February 18th). I've been mourning him all over again, and have had memories come up from around ten years ago.. icky feelings.

The eclipse was in my third house, squaring my Mercury, opposing my Saturn, and inconjunct my Midheaven (I think).

I was thinking the same thing on Tuesday morning.

I finally read this - two days late.
Re: being criticized. On Saturday, I was thinking about judging and being judged (thanks to a ruckus on another website, where someone complained about it - this after a fight had erupted between groups of other people). Sometimes, it isn't such a bad thing to be judged - it all depends on who it's coming from, and how they put it across to you. The way in which this person was judged wasn't very nice, though - it was a case of guilt by association.
