Do you think there is a correlation between an unusual voice and natal chart aspects? What kind of aspects do think would suggest someone has an unusual speech pattern? I tried looking at Mercury and Uranus in the charts of celebrities with unusual voices... see what you think of them.

Weird Voice #1 - Michael Emerson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTHCWfP4q_8

Voice characteristics: Slow and rhythmic, methodical speech with engaging tonal inflections.

Chart: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/green_arrowXblack_canary/astro_2gw_34_me79 12519824.gif

Unfortunately I don't have a birth time, but first thing I notice is Mercury on the cusp of Virgo/Libra sextile Uranus and square Mars. Could this be a source?

Weird Voice #2 - Daniel Johnston
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_RbSAwMa3U

Voice Characteristics: Unusually high pitch, almost stunted speech, lacking proper rhythm but somehow it works out for him in his music.

Chart: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/green_arrowXblack_canary/astro_2 gw_44_daniel_johnston8008012.gif

Also without a birth time. Mercury in Aquarius trine Neptune. Hm... both Michael Emerson and Daniel Johnston have very few aspects to their Mercury, and Uranus and Mars is involved in both of them (Emerson a square, Johnston sesquiquadrate).

Weird Voice #3 - Jodi Shilling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH5YP05tn68

Voice Characteristics: Very high pitch and child-like, Jodi says her voice just never changed when she grew up.

Chart: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/green_arrowXblack_canary/astro_2gw_45_j_s82 281752.gif

Wow this is a bit different... Jodi has many aspects to Mercury. But again it's in Aquarius like Daniel (another child-like voice?), square Uranus, and Mars is again involved in a conjunction.

Weird Voice #4 - Fran Drescher
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkp7wsJc8MI

Voice Characteristics from Wikipedia: Drescher's voice is a combination of a high nasal pitch... In her autobiography, Drescher discussed the fact that this is basically her real voice — even though it is played up a little on-camera — and discusses the many voice lessons she had to take to overcome it for movie auditions, only to have it, and her machine-gun titter, end up being her trademark."

Chart: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/green_arrowXblack_canary/astro_2 gw_46_fran_drescher849501310.gif

Okay, now Fran is almost a completely different. She does have very little Mercury aspects, save a trine from Venus is Scorpio. But no Uranus or Mars are involved (unless you want to count a square to her Venus from Uranus and that Mars rules Scorpio).

Another interesting note could be that her Mercury is in Virgo, the same as Micheal Emerson, and Mercury both rules Virgo and is exalted in the sign. Along with the little aspects (ways to divert the Mercury energy), that could mean their communications are very pronounced.

So from these birth-time-less charts, the main similarities in Mercury aspects are a connection to Uranus through sign or aspect, a connection to Mars, and either having very much or very little aspects to other planets, emphasizing Mercury issues.

Someone I know personally has an unusually feminine voice even though he is heterosexual. I looked at his chart and he has Sun conjunct Venus in Scorpio and Mercury conjunct Mars square Moon in Aquarius.

Have any other charts you'd like to share? Know anyone with an unusual voice or have one yourself? What do think about voices and aspects?

Casey Affleck

His voice is simultaneously slow and high, kinda uneven, hoarse and all over the place [that's Boston for you lol].

I have found that a Mercury-Mars conjunction is present in a few charts of people "known" for their (often unusual) voices.

Mel Blanc ("The Man of a Thousand Voices" and the voice behind Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, and Barney Rubble) had Mercury conjunct Mars in the opposite sign from his Uranus, and his Uranus opposed a Neptune-Venus conjunction. I wish I knew his ascendant...

Kristin Chenoweth has Mercury conjunct her Moon and Mars.

Also, I've noticed Mercury in the 11th House in the charts of people with very distinct/unusual speech patterns. Examples would be Jack Nicholson, Donald Trump, Cher, Mark Wahlberg (ever see Andy Samberg's SNL skit ridiculing Wahlberg's speech patterns?), Barry Gibb (another great SNL skit was "The Barry Gibb Show" which also ridiculed his speech/singing voice), Groucho Marx, Billy Crystal, and Leonard Nimoy.

About 2 years ago I sat in a small diner on Madison Avenue between 27th and 28th Street in New York. Fran Drescher walked in with her father and sat in a booth in front of me. Overhearing her conversation I could tell that she had just come back from a doctors appointment for her father. She was reading the instructions to him for taking his medication. She had a lovely deep voice. She had only a slight flavor of the Queens New York accent she used on "The Nanny". So I believe it when you say that he "weird voice" doesn't show up in her chart, it's simply not there.

Interesting!

When I think of unusual voices, I think of Stevie Nicks, and Michael McDonald.
Not so much as unusual, but beautiful in a unique way.

And the actor Sam Elliot. I mean that is one gruff voice!

GV, yes I thought about that... but I included her anyway because her manner of speaking became a trademark in her career she had voice coaching to "fade" her voice's distinct characteristics. Of course, you're right she doesn't fit in the same as the others mentioned here.

Wait you saw her? That's awesome.

The first person I thought of is Kate Bush. She has Mars in Taurus trine Mercury (in Virgo).

I think 2nd house is the place to look, generally speaking, for voice. And Taurus.
