I’m still learning about astrology so I’d be grateful if someone could clear this up for me. Right, when reading horoscopes in newspapers etc and an astrologer writes something like ‘Libra, the sun will be transiting your 10th house on 21 July’ and when I look at my natal chart, I find the sun is actually transiting my 12th house, do I at this point dismiss what the astrologer has to say? Or would I be affected by both the generic Libra sun (if there’s such a thing) transiting the 10th house and my natal Libra sun transiting my 12th house? I know a lot of people say we should ignore sun sign astrology, is this because it’s inaccurate? Thanks Miss Mystic Libra Sun/Cancer Moon/Leo Ascendant

Hey Miss Mystic & Lechien!Sun Sign astrology itself isn't bad, your Sun sign represents your conscious ego and core self. The Sun is one of most important planets in astrology! But reading your horoscope in the newspaper is problematic and often incorrect because it's so general. Everyone's individual charts as a whole are too complex for it to be accurate and most newspaper horoscopes are written by people who don't actually know much about astrology. A great website I use for a daily horoscope is astro.com. If you enter all of your info in, the daily horoscope you receive there is based on your transits and will be much more accurate. Good luck! I'm on my cell phone, so I can't give the long answer in depth. Google "Solar Houses" alongside, "Astrology." That should help you get a handle on the houses the Sun sign astrologer is using. The first thing to know about interpretting the Sun generically is that they place the Sun in the 1st house, the house of identity, and read the rest of the chart accordingly, so if they say that something is transitting your 10th house I can guess with relative certainty that they're referring to the sign that precedes your Sun from the squaring position. For Aries it would be Capricorn. For Taurus, Aquarius. Gemini, Picses. Etc. IP: Logged |

yes if you read your rising sign(or the next if you're coming in late in the sign) - wherever your first house is, a lot of the stuff will apply to you. however they also use ASPECTS to your sun in a sign-related way so your sun sign will also be SOMEWHAT relevant. but obviously if they are talking to everyone in a sign...it's going to be generalized at best.IP: Logged |

Instead of reading horoscopes I just take note of the closest transit aspects to my chart on a particular day and look each one up myself.Solar houses are when you take the Sun sign of someone and pretend it's their rising sign. So the cusp of a Gemini Sun's solar 7th house is in Sagittarius. Like right now Pluto is transiting a Gemini's solar 8th house. Neptune/Chiron/Jupiter are in a Scorpio's solar 4th house. This is why people tell you to read the horoscope for your rising sign. IP: Logged |

Newspaper astrologers make your Sun sign the Ascendant (the beginning of the 1st house) regardless of what your correct/exact Asc might be. I read my Asc sign instead, if I'm going to read those Astrology Lite columns And if the astrologer is a good one whom I respect, like Jeff Prince or AstroBarry, I'll also read the sun sign writeup.....IP: Logged |
