I do think Robert Hand is a good astrologer but some of his writings on astrological transits are seriously frightening. He is very fatalistic, and if you're a worrier like me, his writing can give you nightmares. And I'm not joking. I've gone on a lot about pluto square moon in this forum but if you read what Robert Hand has to say about it, you'd understand. It was his writing that panicked me in the first place.

Surely there must be a chink of positivity in challenging transits. But it seems some astrologers would prefer scarying the living daylights out of us than telling us anything good about these particular aspects.

The below transit description of Neptune square Mars had me worried for months and I didn't even feel it when it hit last year. I can't tell you how paranoid I got. I was constantly on the lookout for that person who was going to 'frame me'. But then again, there are some things he's been spookily accurate about.

Framed ***
Valid during many months: This influence affects your sense of who you are and challenges the validity of the life course you have set for yourself, as well as your image of yourself as an effective person. Under this influence you may get involved in situations from which you will emerge as a loser, especially in your work and at home. Or someone else may set you up in such a way that you are forced to act without knowing what is really going on, and therefore you act ineffectively. Since you are not likely to get much reinforcement from others at this time, you will be forced to rely on your own inner resources and self-confidence. Do not expect others to provide you with backbone; you need to provide your own. Be careful not to get involved with any dubious schemes, and make sure that any project you do get into is real. Certainly avoid anything you know to be corrupt or dishonest, for you will probably lose out and lose face as well. Defeats may make you feel discouraged. But don't take them too seriously. Like all influences, this one will pass. And there is a lesson to be learned here. The more you identify with what you do rather than what you are, the more difficulties this influence will cause. You are not what you do. This influence may force you to confront that issue, and if it does, you will learn to handle your life much more successfully because you will not always have to protect yourself. Another danger during this time is that you may become wrapped up in fighting for some terribly idealistic cause that has little chance of succeeding or of giving you any real satisfaction. All that you can count on is that you will be required to surrender your individuality for a "higher purpose," which usually turns out to be someone else's ego.

Best,
Miss Mystic

Hmm this description doesn't seem very scary or fatalistic to me.. scary and fatalistic descriptions would be those of old astrology branches.. and Magi. XP

But well, I don't think that currently we can predict things 100% accurate through astrology anyways (at least not now). What we can do is to see if the descriptions fits the situation itself, so that we can use these insights to have a further understanding of the current situation.

Yes! Funny, I've never actually consciously thought about this, but all the transit predictions on astro.com are written by him so I sort of read them all the time by default and, actually, they REALLY aren't accurate. My daily personal scope on there=always totally inaccurate.

Good grief, YES, I find his stuff HIGHLY anxiety-inducing and fatalistic.

'At this time you will find things in your life mercilessly destroyed for no reason... '
Something like that for my Pluto square Pluto transit.
I mean, I'm not asking for sugar-coating, but I find his descriptions cold and merciless, and yes, way too fatalistic.

Thanks guys... I needed to hear someone say that this guy is way too much because his predictions make me depressed for at least a day before I snap out of it.

Thank you for bringing this up. These predictions have been an unexamined part of my life for years!!! I sort of noticed they're inaccurate, but I never really thought about or scrutized them before.

God only knows how paranoid we all are half the time when we're learning about astrology and trying to integrate it into our lives.
And then this kind of stuff gets published on a 'reputable' site and just sets you off in a panic ... someone needs to give Robert Hand a Valium and a glass of wine or something.

I own tons of books written by him, so I have always had his transit interpretations imbedded in my head. But I agree, his interpretations are very ominous and kinda dwell on specific things. Like Pluto square Mars transit, when I read his interpretation I was scared shite less!

Maybe I am morbid, but I don't see a lot of fatalism in his interpretations. He even talks about ways how to use the hard transits to avoid the negative stuff and that can lead to positive stuff. I do believe that hard transits do indicate difficult lessons that we are given to help us learn and evolve on our spiritual path whatever it is.

transiting Pluto is squaring my Pluto with 23 minutes of arc applying right now. I agree with what he wrote about that transit. He didn't explain it as a negative transit. He even explained how to get the positive change with this transit.

I have his book on transits, and I love it. It helps me understand the transits that I am going through.

Transiting Sedna opposing my Venus hasn't been feeling good nor is transiting Ixion squaring my Ascendant. Those are also transneptunian transits that I am going through right now. They are similar to transiting Neptune oppose Venus and Pluto square Ascendant. I read Robert Hand's transit book to give me some insight into those transits but keep in mind that Sedna is more otherworldly, remote than Neptune and plutino, Ixion has to do with second chances, understanding the karmic wheel, matters of involving gratitude, and things like lust and coveting.

I don't think that his interpretations are fatalistic, gloomy, nor even extreme.

His interpretations are both psychological and event-oriented. Those are interpretations that I prefer. I don't like interpretations that are only psychological nor do I like them to be only event-oriented.

I like Robert Hand's transit descriptions because they are very detailed and informative. Sure they are a little intense, but really nothing like some of the older astrology books that I've seen from the late 19th and early 20th centuries: now that's scary!

all the above is probably good motivation for taking in a lot of people's interps? i know what you mean about robert hand, though he does usually offer some suggestions as to using the transits positively, but he is barbara hand clow's brother, after all, very cerebral would be one of the first things that comes to mind.

i have found him, like most astrologers, to be spot on at times and only vaguely useful at others. because he is dealing with ONE TRANSIT AT A TIME, which is almost as futile as reading a sun sign column...but when you get a feel for his "slant" he becomes much more readable.

i like his transit book too, but i never set my watch by him!

I don't think some of these *fortune-tellers* really consider the impact they have on people's psyches, the receptivity of people's minds, etc. etc. In the end it equates to thought-control.
This is when you need to look at yourself and ask how far these people are trying to take over your mind in a subtle way. Ask yourSELF: "Does this seem to add up?" and if it really doesn't seem to add up or it makes you feel suspicious, then don't take it on board.
To a degree, astrology equates to thought-confirmation, and how much we need other people to tell us what to do, or how to think - and as such detracts from the fact of our own empowerment and decision-making in our own lives. If the encouragement is towards strengthening and positive thoughts, then all well and good. If towards negative, then these people are probably "false prophets" - what THEY are doing is confirming our worst fears inside ourselves and preying on them - we are "impressed" by this so-called "ability" of them to "see inside" us (even though we don't know them from Adam), and become hooked. We forget that ultimately it is UP TO US to do something with our lives and work to our own greatest good.
Yes, it can be easy to become suspicious of astrologers who only ever talk about the good stuff (especially when it doesn't seem to happen) - but obviously most of use would rather hear the good stuff than the bad! This is a good astrologer: www.kristinfontana.com.
And if you don't want to hear negative predictions about the future, don't read predictions!!

Fatalistic would be using words such as "you will", and not "you can". Besides, this astrologer seems to offer solutions and possibilities along his descriptions too.

There will always be positive and negative descriptions. But stating possibilities isn't the same as stating things with certainty. But in any ways, I'd personally prefer straight honesty instead of sugar coating.

Just as others said, we have to see by ourselves what really makes sense and what not. And if we are scared or can't take any blunt description, we can always choose not to look at it.

But in any cases, we shouldn't easily discredit someone this easily, just coz his works are less appealing to some of us.

Again, I still think that what's more scary and fatalistic would be old astrology branches. :P

I am in total agreement with you, comica.

I also read the interpretations for hard aspects from Pluto to Moon, and they aren't fatalistic. He talks about the psychological influence of the transit as well as possible events that the transits can manifest as. He doesn't say anything like like it will or definitely going to happen. He says like it may or can happen. He talks about ways to use the transits to get positive results. He tells how to work them so you don't view the transit as some enemy to be scared of but as a tool to use for one's spiritual growth. Hard transits tend to be more about giving lessons that teach us and help with spiritual growth. They are the ones that test us. It's not the easy transits.

American Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said the following:

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

trines, sextiles are the comfort and convenience. Squares, oppositions, and some conjunctions, are the challenge and controversy.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr had a t-square of Moon in Pisces in 12th square the opposition of Mars in Gemini in 3rd and Saturn in Sagittarius in 9th.

He tells it like it is, and I think some of us have a hard time with knowing in advance what a particular transit might bring. That's why trying to gaze into the future is not for everyone.

he is just plain and simple. no fluff. i would rather that than someone who makes it more dramatic than what it really is.

edit: when i started reading his descriptions, i took it more serious than what it really is. now i know the transits are no big deal. he is just a serious person. i just learned how to decipher his words. matter of fact i know a few people, my best friend, my brother, and my SO, with pluto square pluto. its not that serious. i learned to look around and find other interpretations. cafe astrology isnt the best either. "be careful of water" cant live that way!

No, I don't find his interpretations to be depressing or fatalistic, just realistic.

Ciro Discepolo's interpretations for transits are a favourite of mine. They are extremely realistic and to the point. They may bother some people though.

I like to know what possibilities are out there well ahead of time so I can cope better when the time comes.
