Hi thereTo add to 8th's interp:
I have Mercury in 12th
My chart Ruler is in 12th
My Sun is in 11th( Virgo)
My Ruler of 10th is the Moon
The Ruler (SUN)of my 11th is in it's own house
The Ruler (MERC) of the 12th is in it's own house
What does that mean?
Mercury in 12th to me makes it very difficult to volunteer information. I am secretive, and not much about my own life, but about what I know in general. I'll seem ignorant most of the time because I want to know what people know than to share what I know. This makes it frustrating for people to know me as well as people would like. So, this guy knows more than he is letting up. I call this the acting dumb placement.
Chart Ruler in 12th, and mine being Pluto, makes more intense, more than I express. It is a constant effort to control how much I put out before to prevent freaking people out. His Venus being there could mean that he censors himself at expressing Venus traits, i.e extravagance, and may down play his beauty also, if he even pays attention to it. He is also probably paranoid about Venus related things.
Sun in 11th is like the opposite of all the secrecy and so he is quite a paradox as he seems like a people's person naturally, but then those 12th house vibes makes people unsure. He values friendships and is a humanitarian at heart, i.e. he cares about humanity and would probably like to contribute to its betterment somehow in a practical way.
The Moon ruled 10th house assists his humanitarian inclination because this makes him even more connected to the collective consciousness, making not only want to contribute, but to also empathize with people in general. The ruler of 10th in 11th just adds that value of friendship and camaraderie to this person's life. He really believes that through organizations coming together, the world can be a better place, so there is an optimism with him, which often gets shrouded by his 12th house activity though. The 10th house Ruler being in 11th just makes his friends assets in his life, people who benefit his career, so he might know influential or powerful people.
So, you can't tell whether he is cynical or positive because he probably jumps from one to another often. He's also got that absent-minded professor thing where he gets distracted by ideas or activities, to neglect mundane things. If he remembers people's birthdays I would be very surprised. He is very futuristic, and is inclined to innovative lifestyles or ideas, and quite eccentric.
Ruler of 11th in his own house tells us that he is generally sympathetic and joyful. In Virgo is expressed by being of service to friends and making oneself indispensable.
Ruler of 12th in 12th means, especially since it's Mercury, means that he will triumph and beat the challenges of his early life, so this battle that he is going to win requires a lot of thinking, awareness of thought patterns, and such... his battle is not of the world, but with himself, to break conditioning of the mind to liberate him to the level and quality of life he desires. Yes, he's a thinker.
