I've noticed that in a lot of charts, astro.com does not calculate the part of fortune correctly. For example, someone with the following positions born 10:30am Universal Time:-Asc. Taurus 28 degrees -Sun Gemini 3 degrees -Moon Leo 13 degrees The part of fortune should be 8 degrees leo, and at astro.com it is 18 degrees pisces. I guess it's using the night formula, but how come? The person was born during the day. IP: Logged |

I guess I don't understand why the difference between day and night, and as of what time it is considered day and when night. IP: Logged |

triplecancer, the example you're using is a nocturnal chart (in nocturnal sect) as the sun is located below the horizon (asc/dsc axis), thus the night formula would be used. in a diurnal chart, with the sun above the horizon, the day formula would be used. time of day is really no matter when you have in mind the above criteria. astro.com has the option to always use day as some modern astrologers that use the part of fortune find that it is more accurate, irrelevant of the chart's diurnal or nocturnal orientation.
