I have been reading that it takes aspects from Mercury, Jupiter, the third house ruler or the ninth house ruler to the MC or tenth house ruler to be successfully published as a writer.

My question is - Would connections of MC to the third house or mercury be related more to getting articles published and ninth house or jupiter related to novels? Would you need aspects from both third and ninth to be a successfully published writer?

Trying to give my little brother feedback on weather he should pursue a career as a writer.

If you have the time to trawl through the archives of Astro 1 you will find a few threads on this topic.

My answer would be that I would like to see Saturn doing something useful on your brother's chart. Whatever kind of writing appeals to him, whether creative or technical, discipline and dedication are going to be required. So that is why I say Saturn. He isn't always the most popular planet, but he can be our friend.

Yes, Mercury conj Saturn seems to do a good job at producing published writers.

Best of luck to the aspiring writer~!

This is a link I came across at the blog of a writer I like: http://www.sfwa.org/for-authors/writer-beware/

It has some good advice in general. Since I am not so good at astrology, this is the only thing that came to mind... Hope it is of some help!

If Mercury conjunct Saturn is good what would Mercury opposite Saturn mean?

I think the opposition wouldnt be as good as the conjunction. Oppos. would cause someone to 2nd guess themselves a lot, with varying degrees of energy/enthusiasm for the long haul...this aspect is good only if other factors that help apply. Mercury opp Saturn alone doesnt mean theres no chance of publishing. The conjunction gives someone the focus, stamina, ability to research with precision/clarity, and organization of communication.

Like I said, it really depends on the chart.

why not pull up the charts of well-known authors and take a look. Check out JK Rowling, Mark Twain, Dickens, Hemmingway or whoever you personally like.

Sorry to bust in like this, but this has been on my mind too, about writing I mean.. not sure if I should give it a go or not. I've gotten articles published but I would like to write a book sometime... I have the Mercury-Saturn opposition! I also have:
- MC conjunction 3rd house ruler (Moon)and Venus
- MC trine Saturn
- MC opposition Jupiter
- MC square Pluto
- MC sextile Uranus
- 9th house ruler (Saturn) opposition Sun/Mercury
- 9th house ruler (Saturn) trine Moon/Venus

Go or no go?

This is excellent news! I have been working on a writing project (barely getting started, but still, the idea is there) and not only do I have Mercury conjunct Saturn natally but my Solar Return chart for 2010 appears to show an excellent forecast for getting published! (I think--I will post the chart closer to my birthday on 9/17 since I have never done one before).

I have Mercury-Saturn conjunction and I write but I haven't been published. I've worked for a successful publishing company getting college text books published, but not my own. It also depends on whether the ruler of your 9th House is stressed or not.

Saturn rules my 9th House and it's stressed by Mercury, Moon, Pluto and Uranus. I thought it meant that I couldn't get published but somehow I ended up working for a publisher. Interesting.

I was taught that any contact of Saturn to Mercury will give you a writer, no matter how tense the aspect is. You probably do want some tension there. Tension creates action.

But once again, each chart is different, but I've heard that it's just a good thing to have Saturn and Mercury aspects for writing.

I have found that I sometimes get writers block from my Mercury-Saturn conjunction, however, I think you have to BE a writer to GET writer's block. It's a double edge sword.

StarrOfVenusGirl,

Ten degrees is too wide to be a conjunction, even if astrodiest counts it as one, it's too wide. BUT! It's also an excellent measurement for you to have Pluto conjunct Mercury which you DEFINITELY have and it's great for you to be a Virgo as a writer. It brings in strong cerebralism and great attention to detail.

The best thing about your Mercury-Pluto conjunction is that your Pluto rules your 9th House of publishing. I think you'll have great success with publishing.

See, it really does depend on the individual chart.

Thanks Geo & MVM,

I am really excited to start working on this project it (and finish it! that's the important part), and if it's written in the stars, all the better. A little hard work & perserverance goes a long way too, so duly noted MVM. We shall see.
