So basically, I met this new dude and I like him a lot. But we don't have a lot of aspects in our synastry charts. I've always been of the opinion that no aspects is way way worse than tense aspects at least when it comes to synastry.

The only aspect that we have thats anything to write home about is my Sun conjunct his DSC at 0 degrees (I told you I always attract the Leo Risings). And his Mars conjuncts my Venus by 5 degrees.

Although I will say that his DSC ruler (Uranus) is extremely activated. And we have a lot of good asteroid synastry (including DW Osiris/Isis aspects).

Have you guys ever been in a relationship where the synastry had barely any tight aspects?

I think as long as the luminaries have some aspects like Sun-sun, Moon-Sun, or Moon-Moon, you are fine.... and the asc getting some stuff.

Everything else IMO is completely subjective. Most of my long-term stuff had some of those elements, at least between luminaries.

Yeah- not a romantic relationship, but a friendship. Pleasant but not necessarily stimulating. Ultimately we grew apart and I think the lack of aspects was reflective of the probability that that would happen eventually.

One of the most powerful romances I had included very little synastry. I was very surprised. There were about three aspects. But sounds the same as starbogi, we had a hard time finding reasons to get together and eventually we grew apart even though there was a strong bond.

Have you checked your progressed synastry with him? A lot of times, that shows temporary attraction that isn't explained in the regular synastry.

I had one ex with very poor/minimally aspected synastry. My sun, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune made zero aspects to his planets. My moon and Mars had one aspect each -- a square. We did have a moon/Mars double whammy (conjunction and square), which explains the sparks we felt at first. But beyond some initial intrigue, I felt indifferent towards him, and had little desire to ever see him. We were very different people.

Interestingly, he felt a lot more "into" me than I to him, which I attribute to the house overlays and some angle conjunctions on his end (I had four planets in his 7th and 8th houses, Saturn exactly conjunct his IC, Mars exactly conjunct his MC).

I agree with your sentiment that sparse aspects are worse than tense aspects. That's definitely been my experience too, at least when it comes to creating some sort of bond or connection.

I have two long-term relationships. There is great strong saturn aspects in both synastri and composite. I believe saturn is the glue.

Good point Oragami_Salami. I just checked our Progressed Charts and his Progressed Sun is conjunct my natal DSC by 1 degree. And my progressed Sun is conjunct his natal NN by 2. And his progressed ASC is conjunct my natal IC.

Well this explains everything lol.

Progressed chart to natal? Or progressed composite?

Or, you could throw a progressed natal chart for each person on astro.com, then manually compare the synastry aspects between them.

What about progressed composite to natal - does that 'work' at all?

hmm, there's controversy on that since there are some that think the composite is fixed and cannot be altered by transits or progressions.

depends on how you view them MVM - try it out and see if it works for you!
