Was about to erect a friend's chart and was totally weirded out when it came up because it looked like it only contained 6 houses! The 4th, 5th, 6th are squished together so far that it looks like the IC/DC are overlapping and the same on the other side with 10th, 11th, 12th, and MC/AC overlapping. Has anyone ever come across something like this?? I never really knew what the sizes of one's houses in a chart might point to but never really concerned myself until I saw this weird looking thing!

Hey Staborgi!

Was your friend born near the Earth's poles? The higher the latitude the more squished the houses become in nearly every house system, but especially Placidus. One of my former girlfriends was born in Alaska and had 4 huge houses (40+ degrees) and 8 very small houses.

Hope this helps!

Glad to be of assistance!

I look at the large house/high latitude issue as the same problem cartographers face when trying to accurately portrait the round Earth on a flat piece of paper: the continents closer to the poles are inordinately large compared to the ones near the equator. I think the same thing can be said of horoscopes as well; how astrologers will compensate for this discrepancy is an interesting question to ponder.
