the following is the comments by the owner of Astrology America
Comment: Ms. Santangelo's third son, Jeff, had difficulty learning to read & write. So much so that he was labeled a problem child. This annoyed his mother, who then became a "problem parent". (We all know where this is going.) Eventually he was labeled a dyslexic, which I doubt helped all that much. His mother, an astrologer, discovered the planet Mercury as her panacea. She also became an expert in the treatment of learning disorders (this book offers some excellent advice). In the end, Jeff turned out to have both excellent memory & skillful hands & is now, according to his mother, happy & well-adjusted. There is more in the world than mere literacy.

Introductory chapters on Mercury are intended for those with little astrological knowledge. She then observes that a fast moon (faster than 13 degrees, 10 minutes on the day of your birth) makes your perception fast. When Mercury rises ahead of the sun, it makes the mind eager. When it rises behind the sun, it makes the mind deliberate. Santangelo then delineates the various possibilities of moon speed & Mercury position. These are not original observations, but they are also not common.

And that's pretty much it for her analysis of Mercury & learning disorders. Sort of left me wanting more, so I plunged in (do I ever hesitate?)

Jeff's chart is of interest: September 22, 1968, 10:00 pm, Queens, New York. Ten degrees of Gemini rises, there is a staggering stellium in Virgo-Libra in the 5th & 6th houses. Chart ruler Mercury is conjunct Venus (the final dispositor) & both are opposed by a debilitated Saturn, which is exactly square to the 3rd & 9th house cusps. Jeff was born some fifteen hours after a total solar eclipse, which is highly significant. None of this his mother mentions.

It was of interest to me of course.
I don't agree with the referrence to mental deficiency. I don't believe that Dyslexia is a mental deficiency. It's a rightbrained, multidimensional, picture, visualization, imaginative, intuitive, lateral way of thinking that interferes with left hemisphere processes like sequencing, order, words, language.

On a hunch, I checked to see if Jeff has significant transneptunian energy in connection to his Mercury or Moon.

I believe that transneptunians can be energies so metaphysical that they can be hard to handle and can manifest as problems on the physical plane such as serious health problems, psychiatric disorders, and even neurodivergence which are often subtle in their own way and very misunderstood. These aren't necessarily bad things. Neurodivergence tends to be very misunderstood, and it was unknown for a long time. The issues tend to be subtle. They have also been known as hidden handicaps.

With that in mind, I believe that it makes sense that the transneptunians that are associated with unknown, hidden, subtleties could be indicators for neurodivergence.

Mercury in 26'13 Libra
conjunct Quaoar in 27'57 Libra

according to Philip Sedgwick
Quaoar: Native American deity of creation. The first object in space to bear a Native American name (not counting Hopi and Navajo, which refer to tribes). Orbital Period: 283.84 yr.

Positive - creative, inspiring, possibility oriented, uplifts sagging emotion, strong sense of self

Negative - doom saying, prophet of Armageddon, controls others with fear

When the astrologer wrote her book, Quaoar wasn't discovered yet. It was discovered in 2002. Therefore, she had no way of knowing that her son has Mercury conjunct Quaoar.

She doesn't talk about midpoints in her book, but they are very important, especially if planets, angles conjunct or oppose them.

I prefer the Multidimensional Coordinate approach when it comes to Astrology, and so I also checked Right Ascension which is the equatorial longitude coordinate that astronomers use instead of ecliptic longitude which is what astrologers use.

Mercury in 23'12 Libra
sextile Makemake in 23'26 Leo

Orbital Period 309.00 yr., 2nd brightest KBO (Pluto #1), 1,250 km diameter? From Rapa Nui. Pronounced maki-maki.

Positive: Articulate and ultra-communicative. Self-assuredness, especially by verbal means. Clever, quick-witted and interested in invoking insight and inspiration with speech. Quick to report findings, regardless of impact. Courageous, possessing the willfulness to confront the peril required for discovery or spiritual evolution. Conscious of family security and safety. Protection of the brood.

Negative: Cunning and verbally manipulative. Double talk. Diversion of facts. Declaring false findings (laying an egg, so to speak). Taking flight to avoid consequence. Hiding as a coping skill. Reckless. Disregard for safety of the home. Self-serving.

I also checked any Neptune midpoints that could be aspecting his Mercury in regards to the imaginative, visualization abilities of Dyslexics but also the confusion, distortion, involuntary self deception/illusion,and poor memory that they can have when it comes to language, words.

Mercury in 26'13 Libra
conjunct Uranus/Neptune midpoint in 27'01 Libra

Ruth Brummond's interpretations
for Mercury-Uranus-Neptune
ME.UR.NE.
+ intuitive. has quick comprehension. has a lively imagination. inspired. resourceful. inventive. progressive. future-oriented. interested in metaphysics. Radio or television announcer.
Conversation which relaxes tension. Discussion of technology in the future. Dissolution of tensions in communication. Wishing to understand non-existent things. Obscure technical communications.
- reacts unconsciously. contrary. unrealistic. denies one's intuitive flashes. denies stimuli. confused.
Sudden absent-mindedness or unconsciousness. Unexpected disillusionment about an idea. To be checkmated.

Conclusion: Jeff has his Mercury in connection to 2 transneptunians indicating highly metaphysical type of thought processes that could be a problem for him on the physical plane manifesting as neuro-divergence. His Mercury is conjunct the midpoint of the 2 outer planets, and that's an indicate metaphysical type of thinking. It's no wonder that he has a mind that differs from the norm. It doesn't mean that he has a mental deficiency.
