When looking at someone's chart...if you could only pick 3 planets/houses and their signs...which do you feel are the top 3 (most important) to look at???? and why??

Uhh

Well most people say Sun, Moon, ASC. But that really leaves out a lot and does not account for a lot of things. Plus everyone's chart is different. Like in my chart, Pluto is very weak, but in my friend Kailie's chart (who is a quadruple Scorpio), it's very important.

Just looking at anyone's chart - for any particular reason and for the ability to relay what you saw in their chart?

I would say - Mercury for their communication style, Venus for tastes, etc. and Mars to see how they may be driven. All three since one of the three may possibly be blocked or overused, also, "general" questions sometimes have to do with how will I, how can I, and when will I surrounding the drive to do what they want to do and the ability to obtain as much enjoyment as possible with all the things they have a penchant/like for. Communicating that and receiving the information they need is important for just about everything they want to achieve.

I would look at:
1) The Sun...its sign, house, and aspects. Because I'm a gung-ho lover of Sun Sign astrology. When I meet someone, I can never guess their asc, but I can guess the element of their Sun 100% of the time, and their exact Sun about 85% of the time...even if their whole chart is dominated by a different element. I think the Sun, when you also have its house placement, is a great indicator of the person's core interests and core personality.

2) Saturn...sign, house, aspects. Saturn is one of the planets I work with most when I do a quick glance at someone's natal or synastry to try to help them problem-solve. Saturn shows: a) where we are most challenged, b) where we take things waaaayyyy too seriously and have trouble relaxing/lightening up...basically, where we are too hard on ourselves, c) where we felt we did not get what we needed in childhood...and often where we feel like we're not getting what we need now, d) until we have worked past it, usually after the 1st or 2nd Saturn return, where we self-sabotage and act out of fear. Looking at Saturn tells me a LOT about a person...and working with saturn reaaallly helps people...I would pick it over Moon/Asc/Mars/Venus if I got just three.

3) The North Node...sign, house, conjunctions in the chart. The NN doesn't tell me too much about a person's core personality...and it was a toss-up to choose this as #3 over Jupiter, because man do I love Jupiter. But I have found using the Nodes in natals and synastry to be very, very HELPFUL...when people learn to work with their NN, it is a joy and a great spiritual breakthrough, and it really helps people find themselves.

So, yeah--Sun, Saturn, NN...a great way to problem-solve and improve one's life, which is the application of astrology that I value most.

Great topic!

(In my own chart--Leo Sun in 8th, conjunct Mercury, sextile Uranus...Cancer Saturn in 7th, conjunct Moon-DC, trine Jupiter, sextile Mars, widely square Pluto...Saggie NN in 12th.)

Sun, Moon and AC. You leave a lot to say about a person by picking whatever 3 planets and leave the others anyways. ^_~

The Sun represents our chore ego/self, the Moon represents our emotions, and these both represents the most basic parts of ourselves.

And then, the AC is like the filter of our entire chart's energy, so that simply put, every energy of our charts will have the flavor of our ACs attached to.

Ascendant ruler, MC ruler, and descendant ruler.

These three planets (plus their sign and house) will give a pretty good sense of how a person presents themselves, what their life direction is, and how they relate to others. Provides a nice outline of what someone's all about.

I don't see the AC that way...I see the AC as showing the public, sometimes phony face we give the world, and the way we begin things. I don't see the whole chart as having the AC's flavor--the Sun's flavor, maybe.

I actually look first at Sun, Moon, ASC + ruler, and then note any stellium that might be there.

For example: I was doing a chart for someone, and she had her chartruler Venus and Sun conjunct in Gemini in 9th house with some other planets in 9th, too. That gave a good start to the interpretation.

Noting then her Saturn on her ASC and the challenging aspects it made, really helped me understand the dynamic of this chart.
