Does anyone have any insights on how astrology would impact someone who was born with a shortened gestation period?

If the underlying premise of astrology is that we are influenced by the alignment of the stars at our birth, then I could see it not making much difference if a child was born premature or had a forced induction. "You are your stars", so to sepak...

But what if it does make a difference? What got me thinking about this is the topic on the Ascendant and Reincarnation. For example, with my son, his original due date was January 14, but he was induced on December 29. He would have been born a Capricorn regardless, but several other things in his chart would have changed. How can his Ascendant reflect his past lives if I, his mother, and my doctor, decided on when he would be born? And what if his early induction had changed what was supposed to be his birth sign? Since he was my first child he could have very well been born a week or more overdue as an Aquarius! Then what?

The same can be said of a child born a few hours early because drugs were used to speed up the process, or in extreme cases, children born weeks or months early due to prematurity.

Is the soul's destiny based on when you were SUPPOSED to be born, or when you were ACTUALLY born? And if it's actual birth time, is that still the case even when your arrival time was determined by someone else?

A time of birth is a definable thing that can be measured. The question about soul purpose cannot be answered in the same way. It is a matter of belief.

In the past I have read articles which seem to be based around the parent agonising that they have ruined their child's destiny and/or personality by having an induction or casearian. This, I feel, is an unhelpful use of astrology.

I was a premature baby with a caul. I was supposed to be a Libra born in the 1 week of October. I was born on 13 Sep instead.

I honestly feel that I was born when I was supposed to be born. There is nothing premature, early/late about where we find ourselves in life generally. Retrospect usually highlights this clearly, when we see events in sequence unfolding in a comprehensive pattern whereas they seemed chaotic at the time. Organized Chaos. So, It is when we are actually born that matters. The soul could have seen a more opportune way to fulfill it's destiny and thus inspired or caused for a birth to occur at a different time than "planned". The soul is in charge, and when it desires to leave or arrive, it will leave and arrive regardless of the protestation of the mind and body. The soul usually goes to its destination in the "shortest" distance it can take to fulfill the "best" result for itself, and these soul journeys are usually uncomfortable to my experience.

I was also a Libra-to-be, instead born a few days early on September 17. I am happy with how things have turned out. I too feel I was born when I needed to be, but I couldn't help but feel that if we go by the theory that our past lives are connected to our Ascendant, that interfering with the birth process couldn't help but come into conflict with that.

However, you make some excellent points about the soul recognizing its higher purpose and knowing when to interfere in the birth process. What do you think about the increase in caesarians and inductions worldwide, or at least in Western medicine? Are these "soul" decisions or just parents and doctors messing around with what used to be completely natural?

And if they are soul decisions, is it telling that so many souls have decided to intervene in this way in recent times?

On a side note, being born a Libra would have added to what is already one heck of a stellium. I'm glad my Virgo Sun is there to temper things a bit!

On the flip side, I was born two weeks LATE; my mother refused to induce and I took my sweet time cooking in there. Her due date was April 1st (would have made me an Aries/Cancer) and I was born April 16th (making me an( Aries/Capricorn). Either way I was cruising for a square, heh.

Because of my narrow pelvic arch, I gave birth to my son via c-section. The surgery was scheduled for 7:30am on July 9th, which would have made him a Leo Rising. I randomly went into active labor at 1:30am that morning, was rushed to the hospital and Moonie was born at 4:34am, popping out a Cancer Rising and bestowing him with the wicked 1st house stellium he now has today. I can't say whether or not he had a life purpose to push forth, but I can definitely say he was NOT WAITING, hehe.

I was also a premature,along with my twin sister.

we were born in 30th august when in fact we should have been born around the 1st week of NOVEMBER!!!A Scorpio...

thinking about it i feel i was born at the right time...i love to be a libra ascendant,with virgo sun - i inerited a great look...:P - and also i dont see myself as a scorpio.i love astrology,mistery and pshicology..but that is it.

i am very into the arts,spiritualism and beauty,very venusian and my taurus moon makes me dream of a safe,beautiful and cozy environmental for myself and the ones i love.

So,i believe that if we are premature,that is cause our Soul decided to be so,we urged to get into this world.sooner than the World thought!

That is an excellent way of start.

The pattern I'm noticing so far is that any premature or delayed births happened naturally. In thee cases it's easy for me to see how there was a deliberate choice made by the soul of the child--they either decided to come out early for whatever reason or that they weren't quite ready when they were "supposed" to come out.

I'd love to hear from anyone who was a Caesarean baby taken out before/after their due date and whether they feel that they were born when they were supposed to be born. Also the scenario for why they were taken early (or late).

I was born weeks before my due date. I should have been a gemini instead of a taurean.

My son was born 9 days before his due date by caesarian and it did worry me at first but i have to say that he is the most together, able, intelligent child i have ever had the pleasure to spend time with, so i think now that all kids are born at the perfect timing for them

Lara, I too think my little son was born when he was supposed to be, despite the intervention of myself and doctors. He is such a sweet little soul, although his little 4 year old self is demanding enough that I see his personality emerging as a force to be reckoned with as he matures. He's a Capricorn/Leo Moon with a stellium in Sagittarius.

Quite the fire baby, with an Earth sun to balance. Now that I think about it, it's very similar to me, with all my Libra planets and the Virgo Sun. We get along famously, and as much as I'd like another child one day, I'd be content with just him.

I was born 2 weeks to 1 month early - so I was supposed to be a Taurus, but I'm an Aries.

Both my children were induced. My oldest girl really matches her chart and my youngest, well she is still young, but is actually showing some attitude now.

I really don't think there is a time where a person is SUPPOSED TO get born....I think a person is born when they are born. When a person takes their first breath out of the womb then the chart comes into play.

I wasn't born with a Sun in Taurus but I have a lot of earth and think like a taurus....

my sister was premature, i was late she's a leo sun aries moon, i'm an aqua sun, libra moon

her asc is right on my virgo jupiter, my asc is right on my dad south node.

Lara....my daughter is a Taurus and was supposed to be a Gemini

I was on complete bed rest and was induced at 37 weeks... She did get the Gemini, though. Moon and Venus

I am also a late Taurus that would have been an early Gemini (May 31st), had women with previous caesareans not been required to continue deliver subsequent children via caesarean.

In a sense, I do feel out of step with my sign in terms of communication, sense of humor, and academic leaning - I have Mercury in Gemini and Sextile Jupiter - but feel comfortable in every other aspect.

See, I find it so interesting that those who were "assisted" with coming out early are more likely to feel a little out of place or out of sign. Even those who were preemies, no matter how early, feel like they were born at the "right" time since that's what happened naturally.

Stargazer, I find your scenario particularly interesting since your daughter is an "induced" preemie like my son, and not natural. Barring an extended pregnancy though, he would have still been born in sign had I not been induced, unlike your daughter. Maybe that's why I feel like he's where he's supposed to be--he would have ended up there anyway?

I was born about 7 weeks ahead of time. My birthday is June 17 so I guess I was supposed to be a Leo. There's nothing Leo about me (I don't have fire in my chart) but there's tons of air and I'm very much a Gemini, for better or worse.

See Duality, I'm the opposite, I was supposed to be born a Libra and I have a TON of Libra in my chart (none of the biggies though); it's my dominant sign.

I also have a lot of Libra traits, down to the dimples when I grin. People tell me I'm extremely charming and I can be quite the social butterfly (when I want to be).

I don't regret not being born a Libra and in fact I'm grateful for the blessings that Virgo has bestowed, but I just think it's interesting how I'm almost, but not quite, a Libra.

It was me that caused the induction. I was toxic. She was considered full term at 37 weeks and weighed 6lbs. 9 oz. Had she gone 40 she would have probably been 9lbs. ouch!
I had her naturally.
She is everything I had hoped for.

My son decided to be born a Cappie on Jan 11...he was due Jan 22nd...he is very much himself as a Cappie, great sense of humor and sharp. He always knew what he wanted with a strong mind.

I was born 2 month a preemie, due on Feb 4 but born on Dec 4th..funny how the day is the same...I was determined to be an Aquarius in some way though, my moon is Aquarius. I decided to be a Sag though...have four planets in Sag, Sun, Asc, Mars & Jupiter.
