i like using astro and will keep using, but its orb consideration system is winding me up, people have told me a 6 orb for a sextile aspect is fine and counts, i agree, a 6orb conjunction between two planets would count.thanks*!

Mathematically, both are 6 degrees apart so yes, person A's Aquarius Venus is in sextile to person B's Sag Mercury/Mars. However, for synastry many people (including myself) don't use the traditional natal orbs. I, for one, tend to halve the orbs, so that conjunction, squares, etc. get a 5 degree orb and the sextile gets a 3 degree orb.IP: Logged |

thanks alot, that sounds sensible.do you think if its wider than a 3 orb its completely non existent? or are you keeping them tight so that the aspect is just more noticeable? IP: Logged |

Just to keep them more noticeable. My experience has been that the traditional 6 degree orb with the sextile tends to be almost non-existent around the 5 to 6 degree mark in most relationships unless the sextile is the most frequently occurring aspect in either the synastry or composite charts.IP: Logged |

thanks again, i wanted to ask the same question again more relevently, natally, astro doesn't list jupiter sextiling my sun, but if i have it right, then it should - my jupiter is 3' cancer my sun is 27' leo, is that not a 6orb sextile natally? i read the description of this aspect on cafe astrology, the shoe fits so im gonna wear it, but i just thought i'd ask for some reassurance lol IP: Logged |

maybe you have midpoint picture involving Sun and Jupiter? I tend to use no more than 4 degree orb for a sextile, and that's with Sun,Moon. I tend to use 3 degree orb which Robert Hand recommended in his book,HOROSCOPE SYMBOLS. He used minor aspects and midpoints, and so that's one of the reasons why he used smaller orbs for aspects.
he pointed out that midpoint pictures could account for wide orb aspects. in a 6th harmonic chart which corresponds to the sextile, a sextile of 6 degrees wouldn't even be close to being in conjunction. you can tell the power of an aspect by looking at its harmonic chart. Raymond

a midpoint is the middle of the distance between 2 pointssay Sun is in 4 Taurus Neptune is in 4 Cancer the Sun/Neptune midpoint would be in 4 Gemini then you look at a planet, angle within 1 degree to that midpoint if you find one like Mars in 4 Sagittarius, then that's a midpoint picture, Mars oppose Sun/Neptune midpoint. only planet that touches that point between my sun and jupiter is Uranus. which is interesting because my Jupiter is in the 11th.the next closest planet is my Venus, but its 2 orb. my eros squares it within 1 degree. astro is definitely leaving out aspects though, it does not register a sextile of 3 orb between my mars and another persons venus!.. "only planet that touches that point between my sun and jupiter is Uranus. which is interesting because my Jupiter is in the 11th."yeah.......so you have Uranus = Sun/Jupiter a midpoint picture like that can account for identifying with wide orb Sun sextile Jupiter is it a direct midpoint picture? (conjunction, opposition)
or indirect midpoint picture (square, semisquare, sesquiqudrate) "astro is definitely leaving out aspects though, it does not register a sextile of 3 orb between my mars and another persons venus!.."
Yeah..I tend to use narrower orbs for synastry aspects. sextile isn't known for being a strong aspect. It's half a trine. 1/3 x 1/2 = 1/6. keyword for it is opportunity. Raymond

sorry, i was wrong, i thought it was a trine, but it doesn't add up, my mistake!the midpoint was 0 leo, and i thought that was trine uranus 1' capricorn, i make mistakes like that sometimes. IP: Logged |
