Another chapter has begun in my life as a neuro-diversity advocate helping people with learning/neurological differences and special education needs.

Yesterday, I got an email from Philip Weaver who first contacted me in response to my neurodiversity group and offered me a moderator position at his new web community that involves helping people that have learning differences.

The last time that I got an email from him was on June 30th of this year,and so it was a pleasant surprise. I didn't think that he was going to contact me again. He told me that he would love to have my help and that he can help me with promoting my group. He mentioned that I will be moderator there.

I joined his web community,and I am now a moderator

Congratulations! You definitely deserve this position, you're a tireless advocate for the neuro-divergent. I'm sure you'll be an excellent moderator and it looks like all the stars were aligned in your favor when the opportunity came along.

Good luck with your new community, I'll stop by soon.

Congratulations. That is awesome!!! Thanks for the link to the site. It is very interesting. I have several members of my family that are ADD and my sister was thought to have a learning disability because she has attention deficit problem, but she is really smart, but just has a difficult time concentrating for long periods of time. My nephew is on medicine for ADD because he has problems concentrating on a task.

Thank you

Dolphin,
I had to respond to you about the ADD.
I don't know if you, but I don't view ADD as a disorder that needs to be medicated. I see it as an alternative way of being,thinking,and learning that doesn't fit with the mainstream workplace,education system.

I tend to believe in more of Thom Hartmann's view which seems to backed up by the findings of the DRD4 7R gene in connection to approximately half of AD/HD cases in children.

here is stuff about ADHD from my Neuro-Diversity Blog on tribenet

History of the Grading System,Lecture Teaching http://people.tribe.net/4b0cf8c4-1fc3-4171-92d3-b0915985bf95/blog/2097d4 5c-e61a-41c3-961d-13c8d3985338

Drug Free Alternative Treatments,Therapies for ADHD.......I take fish oil myself because of Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA....deficiences in them tend to be common in people with neuro-divergent conditions, Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,AD/HD http://people.tribe.net/4b0cf8c4-1fc3-4171-92d3-b0915985bf95/blog/75b162 79-bdda-4332-b638-9a35babf92ad

Essential Oils For Neurodivergence http://people.tribe.net/4b0cf8c4-1fc3-4171-92d3-b0915985bf95/blog/d2ab45 a7-e7ce-481c-9ab1-0d7962dc6c2c

ADD - The Hunter Trait http://people.tribe.net/4b0cf8c4-1fc3-4171-92d3-b0915985bf95/blog/55f12a ef-1155-479f-b680-fd574736dfee

According to Thom Hartmann wrote a book called THE EDISON GENE in reference to the DRD4 7R

According to Tom Hartmann, Edison-gene children and adults are by nature:

page 4-5 of THE EDISON GENE: ADHD and the Gift of the Hunter Child/

Enthusiastic

Creative

Disorganized

Non-Linear in their thinking(they leap to new conclusions or observations)

Innovative

Easily distracted (or,to put it differently,easily attracted to new stimuli)

Capable of extraordinary hyperfocus

Understanding of what it means to be an "outsider"

Determined

Eccentric

Easily Bored

Impulsive

Entrepreneurial

Energetic

All of these qualities lead them to be natural:

Explorers

Inventors

Discoverers

Leaders

There is a book about AD/HD called RIGHTBRAINED CHILDREN IN A LEFTBRAINED WORLD. It's about how AD/HD are rightbrained and don't benefit from auditory sequential teaching methods that are the norm in schools. They pretty much call for education reform just like Thom Hartmann does.

Psychiatrist Ned Hallowell has ADD,and he is an author of ADHD books, DRIVEN TO DISTRACTION, DELIVERED FROM DISTRACTION and ANSWERS FROM DISTRACTION along with John Ratey that also has ADD.

AD/HD tends to have comorbidity and overlapping symptoms with other neuro-divergent conditions like Dyspraxia, Dyslexia,and Aspergers but also with the psychiatric disorder,Bipolar.

according to Dr. Hallowell

The Positive Aspects of AD/HD

Most descriptions of AD/HD focus on the negative aspects and neglect to mention the advantages to having AD/HD. They include:

* Creativity

* High Energy

* Intuitiveness

* Resourcefulness

* Tenacity

* Warm-heartedness

* Trusting Attitude (sometimes too much so)

* Forgiving attitude (sometimes too much so)

* Sensitivity

* Ability to take risks (sometimes too risky)

* Flexibility

* Loyalty

* Good sense of humor

Not all persons with AD/HD have all these traits, but to the extent that there is such a thing as the AD/HD personality this list of positive qualities describes the advantageous side of the AD/HD personality. It should be noted that the problems AD/HD causes can be so severe that these positive qualities never gain full expression or recognition.
