New Moon September 18, 2009

25:59 Virgo Sun and Moon

2:44 PM EDT

11:44 AM PDT

The New Moon marks the last gasp and final opportunities for Saturn in Virgo. It will point out to us the final steps or parts of the process that we need to get clear on for our Pluto in Capricorn journey, which started in January 2008 and runs until November of 2024. On September 11, 2009, Pluto went direct, for final, for good, for sure and true in Capricorn. Pluto's not fooling around any more and stays in Capricorn until 2024. Now we have to get it together!

Since September 1, 2007 when Saturn entered Virgo, we’ve been working hard and struggling to change the area of our life that is bound by habits, rituals and routines, good, bad or indifferent. We’ve been polishing our skills and talents for our Pluto in Capricorn journey. We’ve been learning how to do our work and how to use our Saturn better and better.

This month, under the New Moon, I want you to go back to the events of Fall 2007 and the recent events of mid-August 2009 to see how the parts of our lives are mixed together. See the linked stories? See the connections? See where the daily routines of your life have shifted? See where the universe is still asking you to change? What do you need to step up and clean up?

Back in Fall 2007 you KNEW an area of your life was up for major renovation. It wasn’t working for you any more. You weren’t happy. No joy. No laughter so to speak. It was time for a new chapter for you. You’ve been renovating that area of your life since Fall 2007. In August 2009, yes, last month, you saw a sneak peek of the results of your time and attention to the details of your work on changing your life. Now, under the New Moon in Virgo, you have an opportunity to put the finishing touches on the project(s), the final gloss, and the last minute touch ups. It is time to clean up the final bits of mess before you move on to your next phase which starts at the end of October 2009.

New Moons mark New Beginnings. Notice what you begin on this New Moon and mark your calendar for parts two, three and four taking place on June 19, 2010, March 19, 2011, and December 18, 2011 when the Moon will be back in this area asking you to change, culminate and harvest the results of your efforts begun under this particular New Moon.

Our New Moon is a strong one when cast for the United States Capital. Pluto in Capricorn is RIGHT on the angle, rising in the east. All the changes since Saturn went into Virgo in Fall 2007 have been for this moment in time. You have been making or receiving the changes BECAUSE Pluto is in Capricorn. It is time to begin the work of your life.

I know, I know, you already work hard. You already have responsibilities. You already are doing your Saturn the best you think you can. And the heavens agree! But they want you do Saturn MORE, do Saturn DEEPER, do Saturn with a GREATER and more PROFOUND degree of UNDERSTANDING about how YOUR Saturn and teeny tiny you can change and transform the world. Pluto in Capricorn is going to ask you to delve in deeper, much deeper, into your Saturn and your work in this lifetime.

You incarnated at this time and space for the various changes that Pluto in Capricorn is going to bring to your life and to our world. You incarnated at this time and space to do your Saturn while Pluto rolls through Capricorn. You incarnated to help out and experience Saturn in one of the most profound places he can be. You get to do your Saturn and help the rest of us do our Saturn better. Together we can change the world. And, actually, that is our job! You are part of the chorus of change about to unfold on earth as Pluto goes through the sign of culminating, accomplished, change producing earth. It is going to be GREAT fun. And you are going to have a wonderful time, provided you keep your focus crystal clear on what you are supposed to do and why you are here. It is time for you to take over and be responsible in your life. Lack of responsibility isn’t going to cut it any more.

Have you noticed how the feedback cycle seems to have gotten shorter and shorter? Something happens and WHOMP Saturn, is right there? Saturn shows up in the form of the authority, and makes folks take responsibility and own up to their side of the deal? No more passing the buck. It isn’t going to happen, not with Pluto in Capricorn. It is time for you to own your own stuff. The buck will stop with each one of us. Own up and it will make everything go SO much easier. No more cons. No more doing bad stuff and not getting caught. The time to get things cleaned up and cleared up is now. Do it to the absolute best of your ability. You are going to be SO busted if you attempt to take the short cut or do less than your fair share or avoid being responsible for what your actions have created or lack of actions have NOT created. Keep your commitments. Do your Saturn.

So enough with the lectures and on to how the New Moon is going to point out the last bits of Saturn that you need to do to be ready to go. At the end of October, Saturn is going to ask you to come and partner with him. No more being the apprentice and watching the big Guy with Rings do all the work. You are about to become the authority in the room now. You are about to partner, equally, with your life and your Saturn.

The media keeps referring to the “Summer of Death” and mentioning all the celebrities and leaders from our childhood who died since June. Look around at your own life and the lives of your friends to see all the changes you and THEY have experienced in their respective worlds since late June. If you are still here, alive and kicking, you are signed up for the next part of the trip, Pluto in Capricorn. The bus leaves in a month. Start packing your bag. Water the plants. Clear out the fridge. Make sure the cat sitter knows the days you will be gone. Get your boarding pass printed and your travel documents in order. Include a dressy outfit for the “You never know” what you’ll need moment. The next chapter starts now under the New Moon.

The lunation is a see-saw chart, meaning we’ll have profound ups and downs energetically and emotionally. Not sleeping is common with this kind of energy. Or not sleeping WELL. Feeling exhausted but knowing you have so much more to do. Being a bit overwhelmed at it all. See-saw charts act like see-saws. One minute you are up. The next minute you are down, seemingly with no external cause.

Quite a few of the planets are hovering in the late 20s, all talking to each other, some nicely, others not so nicely. You might very well get offers that you don’t want to take. Or suggestions you are not in the mood for. That is the other guy’s dream for you. You have to be the creator of your OWN dream now! So watch, very carefully, the stuff that other people try to get you to do. They may not want to do it. You may not want to do it either. They may WANT you to do it while you know you don’t want to do it. If you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. Be cautious about what you commit to. Once Saturn switches signs, you are going to be very busy with your Saturn so only take on things you know you want to do.

There will be adjustments needed under the New Moon as there are quite a few inconjuncts as well as a Finger of God. Inconjuncts mean the planets don’t GET each other and they are communicating the “not getting” energy much better than the “getting” energy. You may THINK you know someone right now or THINK you know what they need. But you don’t.

Repeat. You don’t know what they need. They know what they need. Right now, they are having trouble getting to it, verbalizing it, communicating it, or talking about it, but they do know what they need.

So keep your mouth closed and listen to what they are attempting to say about themselves and what they want. They don’t want advice. They want to figure it out. They want to process their emotions with you as a sounding board. So ask them questions to clarify. Ask who, what, where, when, how. Avoid the WHY question as it makes folks defensive. Ask your self the questions too. Who? What? Where? When? How? It will help you figure out what the next thing is. Avoid why. WHY is actually tied to Saturn. And you KNOW how people get when you go poking around in their Saturn without their permission.

All the inconjuncts and see-saw make this a moon to make decisions on. Or at least to eliminate stuff ~ that IS a decision. You may decide you DON’T want stuff. And that is just as good as knowing you DO want stuff. It is clarity. The New Moon brings clarity about the big picture as well as emerging vision for your life. Don’t worry if the vision isn’t 100% yet. It won’t be until the Gang of Three go direct in the next month or so. At that time, your vision starts to clarify as the energy moves in and helps you move toward your new vision. In the meantime, research what you can do about the here and now. Focus on finishing up the outstanding tasks before you so they are off your plate and you are ready for chapter next.

This is a practical and solid New Moon. There is quite a bit of earth energy available to get things done. The Moon is low in fire so there is NOT a lot of Vision or inspiration flying around in the world. It is more about the concrete, solid, reliable sectors of creating form on earth. There is a mystic rectangle formed in the heavens which involves the Nodes of Destiny. You may find doors closing before you, seemingly out of nowhere. If doors close, look around as there is an open door SOME PLACE near by. Accept the invitation to walk through that open door.

Mystic Rectangles take place when the Universe wants us to go down a certain path we might not other wise take. The closed door blocks our way. Another option is to sit there and pout. The third option is the open door. The open door is the path. The Mystic rectangle almost forces you to see the path and take it.

The Nodes are the open door in the New Moon’s Mystic Rectangle. Go toward the New vision of your life. There will be a deep wish to go back to the Old vision as it might appear again. The Old Vision can still be your path, with all the needed changes you‘ve figured out. If the Old Vision IS your path, it will be very easy and your heart will be clear. If the Old Vision is NOT your path, every part of your being will be yelling “NO, NO! Don’t go there!” Your friends will probably be saying “No, no, don’t go there!” But you have to do what you have to do.

If you are NOT SURE about the Old vision being your path, go there and check it out. Try it on. With this Moon, old lovers can return saying, “I realize you are the ONLY one for me. I was a fool to leave you.” If you still have a “thing” for them and want to explore the possibilities, there is nothing wrong with saying yes (even if you decide NOT to tell your friends). Check it out. Especially if you met them between September 2007 and now. If they are NOT the one, or not supposed to be part of your Pluto in Capricorn journey, they will fall away by the first week in October. The mystic rectangle will take care of them.

If the Old path is the proper one, it will concretize after the 29th of September, once Mercury goes direct. If the Old path is NOT the proper one, it will fall away after the 29th of September. The Next Path is shined up and ready to go at the end of October.

Mars triggers the eclipse point from July 2009, wrapping up the last bits of the Summer of Death. Expect stories from early July to arise and help you figure out where you are going.

Virgo New Moons always offer us an opportunity to change our habits, as Virgo rules the routines in our lives. This is a great New Moon to concretize work, routines, food, diet, exercise, health or body changes. Rituals are especially powerful on the New Moon (or over the weekend when Moon in Libra firms up the emotions for the upcoming Saturn in Libra journey) It is a GREAT time to bring needed routine and physical changes into your life. Clean out the closets. Get the space around you sacred and clear. Organize the new filing system. Redo the old paper process. Renovate the Website. Adjust your daily routines and blocks of calendar time about how you spend your time.

Focus your attention on what is of VALUE to you. What do you desire? What is your heart’s fondest wish? Give that extra time and attention under the New Moon and in the month ahead as Saturn is in his last degrees of Virgo. Make what you love part of your daily life ~ a ritual and routine that supports you. That way the thing you love and value most will be part of your life each and every day.

Lynda Hill's interpretation of the Sabian Image for the New Moon is A BOY WITH A CENSER SERVES NEAR THE PRIEST AT THE ALTAR

Commentary: ‘A Boy’ is shown with a ‘Censer’. He ‘Serves Near the Priest at the Altar’. The ‘Boy’ doesn’t have the experience or social position of the ‘Priest’, but that shouldn’t put him off his duties. If he’s doing his tasks with a sense of ceremony, his position and responsibilities are still very important. In the church service wine is drunk as a symbol of the blood of Christ. Wafers are placed on the tongues of the believers as the representation of the body of Christ. How the ‘Boy’ reacts to the ritual or ceremony will depend on his upbringing, beliefs or temperament. He could be rapt with fascination at what is being played out or he could be indifferent, bored and really preferring to go home. It is unclear whether the ‘Boy’ wants to eventually take the position of the older ‘Priest’, or colleague, or not. He may grow up to do other things, but right now he’s got his position or duty to fulfill. This may be less than he’s actually able to do or is truly “qualified” to do.

Oracle: Be cautious of feeling that what you are doing is inconsequential; because even the smallest contribution is an important part of the whole and we all play our part in some measure. Right now you may be someone’s “right-hand man” and not in charge of proceedings. Don’t be worried, your time will come. Sometimes there’s the need to be patient and to wait things out until one is more mature, practiced or prepared to be in charge. A more exalted position will be attained, given time. Give reverence and respect to your everyday routines, no matter how insignificant they may seem and you will find your sense of hope renewed. However, watch out for any feelings of jealousy that someone is bigger, better, more experienced or more respected than your self. Measuring one’s self by the successes of others can be useful, except when it degrades your belief in yourself, or in others. Who is the ‘Priest’ and who is the ‘Boy’?

Keywords: Youthful attitudes. Doing what’s simple, with silence and devotion. Participating in the toil but not the glory. Altars and shrines. Incense. Burning candles. Passing down wisdom and knowledge. Looking up to those in power. Work experience. Apprenticeships. Feelings of awe and respect. Religious and social ceremonies.

The Caution: Being dominated by spiritual hierarchy that is devised by human rationalism. Doing “lesser things” to avoid responsibility. Not taking a place of authority when one could or should. Feeling like one isn’t good enough because of inexperience. Someone always hanging around. Incompetence. Refusal to take instruction.

A man who pays respect to the great paves the way for his own greatness. Chinese proverb

Freedom-to walk free and own no superior. Walt Whitman

I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. Albert Schweitzer

Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

It is time I stepped aside for a less experienced and less able man. Scott Elledge

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher regard those who think alike than those who think differently. Friedrich Nietzche

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. Harry S. Truman

Venus in Gem! I was wondering how you got ahold of the October New Moon column before it went out to the rest of us in her newsletter. I started brewing up a theory about how you were Anne and just pretending to be in Florida on your profile.

I hope the New Moon column comes up soon...I need it!!

Hey, 18th december is my birthday!

So what did I start last month which will have effects on me on my birthday in 2011?

Oops, that New Moon was squaring my Sun on 25°56 Sag and my Mercurfy on 25°03 SAg (my DESC ruler) and also fell onto my Draco DESC on 26°51 Virgo.
