Hello everyone. I've been reading quite a few threads on solar returns lately and became curious. Trying desperately to read my own, I realized I don't know how! lol

If anyone has some experience reading solar returns, your knowledge and expertise would be greatly appreciated!

Here is my natal:

It'd be better to post the solar return compared to your natal on one chart. There's an option for it on astro (solar and natal chart with houses).

But basically start with looking at the ASC of your solar return and see where it falls in your natal. Then look at the SR ASC ruler and see what house it is in the Solar AND Natal and sort of think of how those two areas can be combined. For instance, the ASC falls into your natal 8th house, and Mars, the SR chart ruler falls in the 12th of your Solar and the 8th of your natal. So 12th to 8th issues will be highlighted.

Let's see... based on the information that stopandstare provided...

Sun square Jupiter: apparently not a very good time... may be prone to overindulgence?

Sun square Neptune: low energy levels (great...) and over idealization of situations as well as excessive worry for no particular reason... SOOO TRUE!! now everything makes sense...

Sun sextile Uranus: increase in creativity and intuition... positive changes in routine on the homefront

Sun square Chiron: maybe this is supposed to be a painful time?

Sun trine NN: Although painful is essential for my soul growth?

Venus quincunx Saturn: relationships will be fraught with many difficulties?

Jupiter conjunct Uranus: my personal growth and independence this year will be well received

Mars sextile Chiron: The actions I take this year will be essential to my inner healing?

Sun bi-quintile Pluto: I will become more overbearing and authoritative... sometimes needing too much control... yes... i have noticed this about myself lately unfortunately...

Sun conjunct Mercury: I will become more impatient with others... more opinionated... be prone to arguments and debates... very true so far

Moon opposition Saturn: I will be prone to depression and low spirits...

Anyway, I'm a complete novice at this, so if anyone else would like to take a stab at it , all interpretations are welcome!

The solar return is taken as the point when the planet (Sun-Solar) returns to its original position in your natal, a day either side of your birthday. A chart is taken at the exact time (and place) when the return happens, in real time, as it were.
The normal process after the return chart is "in motion" involves prediction based on the following year, which is the cycle of the Sun. This is fine based on the solar cycle, yet there are other planets with similar cycles.
Many astrologers place the Sun at the centre of everything astrology and make predictions about anything based on the Sun, as main player.

Based on the movements of other planets, this lacks consistentcy, for Me.

Taking the house rulers route, whichever planet returns (lets say Sun) you would use the Leo (ruler of Sun) house and Sun placement to indicate which area of your natal chart will be affected by the return, as opposed to all natal areas being influenced through the return of one planet.

For a solar return, look at your natal and see which house Leo is on and its placement.
Then work out the return chart, by itself, looking at what house Leo rules and placement of Sun in your return.

Then....

Apply what you find in the return, to your natal placements.

The difference in this way is the focus and more logical approach. The "other" way has holes in the theory, from my point of view.
