The other title of this post could also be "The Importance of AC in Synastry".

For me, the AC represents the overall personality and it also affects our general outlook in life. It's like a funnel that filters our planets' energies, so that our planets' energies would get a flavor of the sign of the AC.
But well, I want to see how relevant is its compatibility in synastry in the real life, or can the Sun/Sun or Moon/Moon compatibilities make it.

So the question is - what are your experiences with people with whom you have/had compatible or incompatible ACs (by signs)? Does the AC compatibility/incompatibility really make a difference, or is it not really that important (as in other factors like Sun and Moon compatibilities/incompatibilities were more relevant)? Please list your ACs/Suns/Moons too. X3

*edited* Also, how did the ACs compatibility/incompatibility manifest in your relationships?

Comica....well, new to astrology so, I don't know if I got your question right but I shall give it a try.

My sun - scorpio
My moon- taurus
AC - taurus
IC - scorpio

His sun - virgo
His moon - virgo
AC- capricorn
IC - cancer

He is the first person I deeply investigate astrologically. That is, I did not bother with exes of my past with astrology and I am glad I didn't because even when I pulled out their charts without their birthtime (don't know it) after being no longer with them (it was just for synastry investigations-curiosities), the synastry was horrid. No wonder...

In terms of this man and I...well, we get along very well. I can't tell whether it is the IC/AC or the sun and moon combo because we are compatible both ways.

I did not understand IC as much at the beginning. I thought it meant I would be attracted to scorpios and he would be attracted to cancerians. For example, he is not very intense and deep a la scorpio and I am not extremely emotional and moody. But my taurus placements make me very homey-food-family oriented and I also have moon conjunct ascendant which gives me a lunarian touch. And of course, I am a water sun.

On the other hand, sure, he is not Mr. Intense but he has sun, moon and mercury in the 8th house (well, maybe...because I don't know his exact birthtime except he is Capricorn rising) but regardless, even if he did not have this latter placements, using another birthime within the cap asc transit shows his sun, moon, mercury and venus as being in the 8th house.

What I am trying to say is that he has 8th house influences roaming around his chart. In addition to this, I find capricorn very similar to scorpio in certain particular ways and also, there is something similar between virgo men and scorpio men. I can't explain it but I find that the comments, complaints and criticisms thrown at these men in regards to relationships are practically identical.

Overall, he has enough scorpio without the negative aspects and I have enough cancerian qualities without the negative aspects too.

And of course, there is our sextile suns and trine moons...

We do have very similar ideas in regards to what we want in a relationship and a partner. We also have extremely similar notions in regards to marriage, child-rearing, childbirth, children, spiritual values, philosophy, the state of the word, people, politics, etc. For example, we both are very health-conscious, like "things natural" and have an admiration toward nature.

But, we also have enough differences to keep things spicy. I am more adventurous, sentimental and like to get to the bottom of things, and he is more grounded, methodical and laidback than moi...
He grounds me and I open him.

We are also from different cultures, ethnicity and race.

I hope this made sense. I felt I was rambling.

For me, yeah, it makes a difference. And the squares are the worst.

one example, an old friend-
my leo asc her scorpio asc
my pisces sun her scorpio sun
my capricorn moon her aquarius moon

Thats just one instance, but God yes when it comes time to begin on almost anything new, there are -big- drawbacks. My Leo asc is of course fire so its all about the energy that you do things with, the enthusiasm the playfulness, as a sidenote this is what is emphasized when I relate to others who share my Asc. We get on, even if there are some differences along the way we seem to fundamentally see the world as every day is a brand new start and want to share that energy. OK. To be able to share that type of energy with either a Scorpio or Taurus asc is as close to impossible as you can get! The miscommunication there was rampant, and for me with a water sun/earth moon youd think either of those 2 would do it for me and they really don't. To have that fire energy that you want to share and experience with someone, like those with fire asc, and to have it shot down time and again, you end up really not wanting to come out and play anymore, I remember feeling like a part of myself that I associate with so much was just completely ignored and it was really hard having to relate to someone who really didnt get it and didnt want to get it. I think the mode here matters a lot though, with mine you're talking fixed, and fixed energy likes what it likes and thats it.

The trines by sign and conj by sign to asc were the most natural. (edited)

Oh, and how did they manifest? For this I'll say the element was most important, just being able to express [w.fire and air] was the most meaningful, also not being able to express [w.earth and water] was the most hurtful. Even if there was good synastry if there was asc incompatibility there would be the feeling of being up against a wall time and again.

What about you comica?

hikoro, that's beautiful! ^_^ And with your Cancerian qualities and his Scorpio qualities, you must feel like at home with each other. Actually, I find it kinda true that sometimes, certain aspects or house overlays might influence us and gives us traits of other signs even if we don't really have placements in those signs. And with this, it does add more affinity. I only have Saturn and Pluto in Scorpio, but I have 4 personal planets in the 8th house, plus South Node in Scorpio, and in a way I'm very Scorpio.

Lonake, yeah somehow, I also feel that I get along better with people whose ACs are compatible with mine, even if the Suns/Moons compatibility isn't there. It's like I feel more at ease with them.
I have Aries Sun/Moon and Virgo AC, and I feel that whenever there's Moon compatibility but no AC compatibility, there's a really nice emotional affinity (specially if it's the same sign), thought an overall affinity seems to be missing (it's like I can't totally relate and feel at ease with them); and whenever there's AC compatibility and no other compatibilities, I feel an overall compatibility with them, thought there are some inner differences.
But I guess that since our planets are influenced by our ACs, so that even thought we might have different Moons, if we have compatible ACs, then even if our emotions lacks the inner affinity, they would still be somehow compatible as they have some flavor of our compatible ACs. For example, my emotions are very Aries, but they are often Pisces-colored in my relationships (Pisces DC).

Idk, I'm a Gemini ASC and most of the people I hang out with don't have compatible ASCs.

My best friends and my longest relationship are ASC in Virgo. Another good friend and a dude I have a weird relationship with have ASC in Scorpio. My ex boyfriend has ASC in Cancer. And my favorite guy friend has ASC in Capricorn.

By the way, Lonake and amowls, with your ACs in square with the other person's ACs, were your ACs in the same sign of the other person's MC/IC or vice-versa? (Actually, I'm kinda curious how incompatible ACs but their ACs conjunct the other's MC/IC would be)

Also, amowls, where there any Sun or Moon compatibility between you and them?

Hi comica23,

I identify compatible people for one person, at a time. And I use Synastry Astrology aspects to find the birthdates of compatible people for my subject person. I do not use pie charts in the process, instead I view the aspects in block form which I call a unit or union. I am able to see variations in aspect combinations inside the unit. And this is some of what I discovered.

Synastry seems to present in various ways, three opportunities to have aspects cover categories. In your case, we are speaking of the Asc.. The Asc falls more in line with the M and VE. In that it absorbs or brings to the Asc person. The influence is like a magnet.

The way I can see the aspects, it becomes easily apparent if a person does not have any M, VE and or, Asc. But, this is normally not the case, not to have any. Eliminate any two combinations of these three planets and one manages to appear. And thus providing the person with the possibility of having at least one form of friendship influences.

Other cases might be:

Intellect - MY, SA & UR
Ego - S, MR, P &, MC

Emotions - M, VE, NP & P
Stability - S, JP & P

It is very good to have these variations in opportunities through Synastry aspects because it gives the participants ample chance of having a rounder relationship.

I only work with these planets:

S = Sun
M = Moon
NN = North Node
MY = Mercury
VE = Venus
MR = Mars
JP = Jupiter
SA = Saturn
UR = Uranus
NP = Neptune
P = Pluto
MC = your Midheaven
Asc = your Ascendant

You can find a Synastry Aspect Category List on the following page here in Linda Goodman's website:

Comica

My virgo also has saturn in scorpio?
Would you please elaborate on how this plays out with you?
I have read definitions in regards to saturn in scorpio but these are not personal-deep definitions or examples.

It makes sense that you find yourself more compatible with people you share compatible ascendants, I do too. After all, if you think about it, people with compatible asc are more likely to have similar signs falling on the individual houses.

For example, my virgo has 3rd house in pisces and I happen to have 3rd house in cancer. The houses give an idea on how we will react/act in regards to life aspects that the houses represent.

Since my virgo and I have water signs ruling our natal third house, then obviously, certain relationship dynamics will be smoother because we approach the third house aspects in a very similar fashion.

General compatibility with friends:

Usually AC in a trine or sextile sign.

My AC in Aqua
I know HEAPS of Gemini ACs and get along really well with them - regardless of sun sign. They are just drawn into my life somehow. I also have NN and Chiron in Gemini. Gemini is my 5th house ruler. My longest relationship was with a Gemini ASC.

I wouldn't say they are the deepest relationships though but that could be the air element Definitely fun and lively. If other factors suggest this then there is possibility for a deeper connection with someone.

I have a great friendship with a Libra ASC. My moon is in Libra too which helps.

My last relationship was with a AC square AC.
We were identical though and had the same outlook on life. We had issues with deception and he hid our relationship from a lot of people so I found out. But my Venus and Sun are in his 12th house so maybe the square ACs didn't have much to do with that.

A long-time good friend of mine has AC sextile AC with me by sign. We pop in and out of each others lives, even with a 6 month gap in speaking, we catch up quickly and its as if we never left. But we NEED space from each other. She has Uranus and Eros conjunct ASC exact and she doesn't get too close to people. This could be more of a personality thing than anything as she gets crappy fairly easily lol

Interestingly with the AC sextile AC - we have an exact AC / IC conjunction.

The AC square AC we have a AC/IC conjunction but not as harsh.

Funny that I have the same general outlook on life as someone who is AC squ AC rather than AC sex AC. This seems odd to me. This is where I think planets play a huge part.

AC squ. AC - was not the slightest bit interested in talking to him at first.
AC sex. AC - we got along from day dot.

The AC sex AC I think we get on each other's nerves when it comes to deeper issues and have completely different outlooks on life, yet we are drawn to each other as friends. It works somehow and we are there for each other but we definitely grate on each other too.

I remember reading somewhere a few months back that someone suggested (Diana? Diandra?) that even though angle aspects (conj) are good, they had noticed something wrong with AC/IC conjunction. I tend to agree with this.

I think the ACs are probably really good for predicting initial attractions/repulsions and superficial getting-alongness ...

AC squ AC -- same outlook on life and interests.
Sun trine moon (2 orb)
Sun square moon (2 orb)
Sun trine AC (6 orb)
Sun conj AC (1 orb)
Moon trine Moon (6)
Moon conj AC (2)
Moon quincunx AC (5)
AC square AC (0)

AC sex AC -- complete opposite outlook on life

Sun trine Moon (1)
Sun square Moon (4)
Sun quincunx AC (1)
Sun quincunx AC (12)
Moon square Moon (5)
Moon sextile AC (8)
Moon semi sextile AC (1)
AC sextile AC (12)

I think it's just easier if I list the placements:

Me:
ASC - Gemini 27
Sun - Aquarius 19
Moon - Libra 23
MC - Pisces 4

BFF:
ASC - Virgo 18
Sun - Capricorn 18
Moon - Virgo 13
MC - Gemini 17
nothing, though her Venus is at Aquarius 21.

Friend:
ASC - Virgo 22
Sun - Scorpio 27
Moon - Scorpio 14
MC - Gemini 21
my SN is at 23 Virgo, and my Venus conjuncts her NN.

Friend:
ASC - Scorpio 8
Sun - Aries 13
Moon - Gemini 15
MC - Leo 18
Her MC conjunct my Sun.

Ex 1:
ASC - Virgo 29
Sun - Leo 1
Moon - Sagittarius 1
MC - Gemini 29
His MC conjunct my ASC.

Ex 2:
ASC - Scorpio 17
Sun - Aquarius 26
Moon - Virgo 21
MC - Virgo 5
His MC conjunct my IC, plus his Moon is at my SN (we also have DW Vertex conjunct ASC)

Ex 3:
ASC - Cancer 0
Sun - Pisces 22
Moon - Leo 26
MC - Aquarius 20
ASC conjunct ASC, his MC conjunct my Sun, his Sun conjunct my NN.

hikoro, hmm I think that Saturn is related to our serious side, responsibility, limitations/restrictions and discipline. But it's also important to see in which house it is in, as it shows where it manifests. In my case, mine is in the 3rd house. Well, Scorpio itself is a very serious sign, and it focus a lot on the depths/what's underneath. And this in my 3rd house, I feel that my mind is often very serious when it comes to communication and thoughts. For example, I'd hardly say things without thinking first, and I give a lot of importance on how things are said/written/expressed. Also, I don't draw any conclusions before thinking over it again and again, and make sure that it's as perfect as possible (this sounds more like my Virgo AC thought lol).
By the way, I've noticed that thing about the house cusps compatibility too. For example, my bf has 2nd house cusp in Aries, while mine is in Virgo, and sometimes he can be more impulsive with money sometimes, while I tend to be more careful lol.

MsCandeh, that was interesting X3 and I also saw that AC/IC thread too.
Hmm it seems that Sun/Moon conjunct AC can help even if the ACs are not compatible, as it might show that one's inner (Sun/Moon) is compatible with the other's general way of being (AC).
About your AC sextile AC case, maybe it's coz there's fewer harmonious aspects with your Suns and Moons so that thought you can get along generally, it's not the same with the deeper issues? Also, sextiles signs have "opposite" elements, so maybe it contributes to some opposite outlooks?

amowls, with your BFF and first friend, you have incompatible Suns/Moons/ACs, while your AC falls in their 10th house and their AC falls in your IC. Hmm do you think that your ACs overlays helps in the compatibility? On the other hand, with your other friend and ex1, you have compatible Suns/Moons. And there are MC conjunctions as well. Maybe the MC conjunctions (with your Sun or AC) helped on the compatibility? And with your ex2, theres MC/IC conjunction, Moon conjunct SN. Is his Moon in your 4th house? Also, did the MC/IC conjunction help in the compatibility of outlooks (I'm actually curious about it, as I have a friend with whom we only have the same Moon, but no Sun/AC compatibility, yet we have MC/IC conjunction too)?

Hey comica,

I agree my Sun conj his AC and his moon conj my AC made a huge difference. It was like meeting myself lol .. down to owning the same IKEA tumblers, wastebins etc .. and we designed our bathrooms almost the same (our showers had river rocks/pebbles instead of tiles that we both designed before meeting each other ... it's quite unusual as well). But we had some differences.. he said to me one day shortly after we met "even though we have some differences it's okay because we are so similar" I don't know if that makes any sense tho but it did to us XD

AC sex AC .. we are completely opposite though both quite emotional/intense (being born in mid-1984 with a couple of scorpio planets!) and stick by each other when the other needs us. we'll takl on the phone for hours just venting sometimes because we know that most other people in our lives don't want to hear it, so appreciate that in each other. I have to admit I will listen to advice but she is very sensitive and takes what I say the wrong way (she has Sun (cancer) opposite Moon (Cappy) natally, her moon is square mine, and her sun is square my moon too). I think Sun/Moon compatibility is raelly important. The main difference is she has said to me 'why do you want a house and a dog and marriage and kids to tie you down?' .. she raelly doesn't understand anyone who would want 'responsibilities'. She's never been in a relationship before. I am always in some sort of relationship with someone. She an inheritance last yaer and refused to buy a house, even to rent out, because of the whole stigma of being 'tied down' even if she wasn't living in it. If I got an inheritence I would definitely invest my money, maybe take one or two holidays and keep working. She would rather go jetsetting and not invest it, except in some shares I think. I don't understand that! She's very opinionated and although I can be I will try very hard to see others' points-of-view (libra moon). I find myself just agreeing with her POV so that we don't get into a long-winded discussion about politics or some other topics. She doesn't understand me nor I her. But we have been good friends for 10+ years

Comica, one thing I didnt understand was when you said sextile were opposites.. I thought they were a bit different, but in complimentary ways so that they get along with most things, have similar though different enough interests to keep it interesting.

MsCandeh, with your Suns/Moons being already compatible and with your Sun conjunct his AC and his Moon conjunct your AC, not only you're compatible in the inner, but your inner sides can also feel affinity to each other's outer side. X3
In the sextile case, I mentioned it as "opposites", coz sextile signs tends to show some kind of opposite but complementary traits. Like water and earth signs for example, one focuses more on emotions and empathy while the other focuses more on stability and structure. These are opposite yet complementary traits. X3
But thought sextile signs are compatible, their affinity is still not strong enough compared to trine and conjunct signs, so coupled with the squares between Sun/Moons (which shows inner incompatiblity) and the quincunxes with your Suns and ACs (inner not compatible with outer), probably the differences were more than the similarities.
