 | posted December 23, 2009 10:59 AM I've moved recently and I can't find all my books ...
My fave is called Astrology Under the Southern Cross I think. My first and favouritest book Written by several people one whose name is Milton. Has moon sign compatibility (Though I find it works with moon and sun sign compatibility), children sun signs, ASC personalities, house(residence) astrology, even monthly aboriginal astrology.
Your Birthday Sign Through Time -A Chronicle of Forces That Shape Your Destiny edited by Richelle Gordon and Nadia Stieglitz - looks at the general personalities for each sun sign for every year from 1900 to 2001. Also contains Venus, Mars and Jupiter interpretations by sign, as well as Chinese Astrology AND a section on Mystical Cards which I had forgotten about until now eg. Ace - embodies the idea of Independence, Two - embodies the idea of Union etc. plus personality interpretations of the cards. My favourite books are a bit outdated, but I still love them I just recently started a book about Synastry which has been a good read so far. Oh and Linda Goodman Star Signs of course! | posted December 23, 2009 12:56 PM Only ones I've read that can recommend:
The Twelve House - Howard Sasportas 1st book you should buy. One or two little confusing bits regarding astrological dictionary (both the same thing ruled by Scorpio eh?) but a great starter and/or ongoing book from anyone to the novice through to advanced. Gives a great basis for reading astrology through the houses, giving what each house represents. With the interpretations given for each sign on house, you can use this over and over, for your chart and charts of friends/family. Astrology for the Soul - Jan Spiller
While only seeming useful for the Nodes, which is often ignored when doing natal astrology, this can be applied to most signs, including anything other than nodes. Astrology: A Place in chaos - BB (I think)
Moving away from the technical side, onto a more....philosophical bent. More for the medium to advanced astrological person or even for a student with a more scientific outlook. Enjoyable, challenging, and lots went over my head.

 | posted December 24, 2009 01:12 PM kempton-smith is a great read, like linda's stuff...very entertaining. her stuff on the void moon is good, and a lot of descriptions. a bit of a "cookbook" though...
i am surprised (tho maybe it just indicates generational diffs) no one has mentioned DANE RUDHYAR - pretty much anything, but especially the Sabian Symbols and the Lunation Cycle and Houses of the Zodiac books ALAN OKEN - the complete astrology - a fabulous book though the actual astrological info is kind of for beginners. the first section talks about the historical and philosophical background of astrology and really gives a great PERSPECTIVE on the whole subject! THE AMERICAN EPHEMERIS by centuries or half centuries - but make sure you check the moon times as sometimes they are reversed, ie midnight will actually be noon and vice versa!! lewi, spiller, liz greene, linda's sun and love signs, charles carter (a real oldie!) and alan leo are also essential in my view...as was the KOCH book of houses which teaches you how to erect a chart as well as giving the placements. you need to be willing to do some math though! Number 3 will show the experienced Astrologer this: Truth. ------------------Soul Mate Love Calculator

 | posted December 30, 2009 04:22 AM I love Rex E. Bills - The Rulership Book, for when you want to know what rules what, everything organized into 3 sections: by house, by planet, by sign.
for aspects as a beginner it's 'Aspects in Astrology' all the way to the bank. Absolute goldmine to get started. Sue Tompkins Charles e.o. Carter's Encyclopaedia of Psychological Astrology, so what if some of the definitions are a bit aged, he was great when he began and I like the insight. But watch for the cover and all of it to fall apart, it's not being bound very well across the board. And I love Liz Greene like many others, mostly because of her strength in Jungian psychology and the talent she has in fusing the 2 dynamics, one of my favorites of hers is - The Astrology of Fate, and a can't miss is also the series she has of her lectures discussing specific astro dynamics called 'Seminars in Psychological Astrology' -- Yes I love Jungian psychology and I often read Liz in conjunction with a great non-astrological series by Princeton University Press called the Bollingen series, one of their famous titles being of course Joseph Campbell's 'The Hero with a thousand faces' - I gorge on all those books they're so fun..just like a good lil Scorpio Jupiter should The House Book by Camilleri - is just a basic but the more you learn the more you can run with it and make it your own. One I really love is Astrological Voids by Janis Huntley, it also covers the ruler's placements of every single house, so you get a good paragraph combining 2 houses into one. so valuable just for that section as a good basic. Synastry,Neville, Planets in synastry, good because it gives you aspects, houses, both natal to natal and composite. It's a two-fer! and very detailed sections, lots of info.
The most recent that I love is 'All around the zodiac' by Bil Tierney - a great synthesis of 2 signs, any 2 signs in combination, so great for working with natals where you're looking to see, OK how do all of his Sagittarius planets combine with the angular H1 Scorpio Moon. So easy to read and a great deal of info, seems simplistic if youre more advanced but will help you understand and put on paper what the dynamic is of this sign vs. another and how exactly are they the same how do they differ. It's easy to have an idea of how signs relate and a lot harder to put it into words, this books helps enormously - great for every level, written for natals but can be easily applied to synastry as well.

 | posted May 11, 2012 04:23 PM Darkside Zodiac is what actually got me into astrology in the first place lol (before it I had no idea bout Rising Signs or Moon Signs), but I wouldn't say that it's GREAT in terms of actual astrological knowledge. It's just a fun book.
The Rulership Book by Rex E Bills is very useful. It's basically just an index of what each sign, planet and house rules. Good for interpretations such as what career the native should go into or horary and electional astrology. Planets in Composite and Planets in Transit by Robert Hand are also very educational.
