I can't seem to shake how upset this has made me. I'm sorry this is so long.

Lately I've been looking into the subject of House Rulers, and the role they play in our individual charts.
I've never paid much attention to them in the past, but I was surprised to see their importance!
House cusps greatly influence the planet's energies of the house they occupy, and the dynamics of how they play out in the chart by coloring them with the sign on the cusp of the House. The House cusp is used to find the House ruler which will show you
the direction of the energies and how they will play out.
I'm still a beginner at this, so please correct me if i'm wrong about any of the above.

For instance, I'm a triple Gemini sun/moon/mercury all occupying my 10th house. For the life of me, I have never felt like a Gemini.
I've always emitted the energies of a Taurus, which I thought was due to my Venus/Mars in Taurus. (Which occupies my 9th house)
After reading about House rulers, I discovered my 10th House cusp is on Taurus, making my 10th House ruler in my 9th House.
I've also always been obessed with travel and deep spiritual learnings. This chart made so much more sense to me with the added knowledge of House cusps and rulers.

So I went through my chart and started looking up each House cusp, and House ruler on Cafe Astrology.
I was doing fine until I came to my Fifth House. I didn't like what it had to say about that, and it's upset me beyond belief.

The 5th House represents children, pleasure and creativity.
My 5th house is on the cusp of Sagittarius. My Jupiter lives in my 12th,
so my 5th House ruler is in my 12th House.
The 12th House has always scared the living beejeevees out of me to begin with, but
Cafe Astrology and every other website I looked up talks about this placement negatively, stating things like,
5th house ruler in 12th house means the "Loss of a child" or "Illness of a child".

I am a divorced single mom. My ex-husband left my daughter and I when she was 1 yr old, and hasn't been present for us the past 2 years. As all the parents out there know, the love and connection between parent and child are indescribable. The love and bond go deep into the fibers of our being, and the thought of losing that child, or seeing them ill or in pain
is like no other hurt in the world. Even seeing a movie or anything on the news involving children being hurt or taken from their parents, makes me cry hysterically.

When I read this in my chart, I desperately tried to find anything that may
neutralize this, or lighten this blow. I could find nothing. It's been a secret and hidden fear of mine since the day she was born
that I might one day lose her, because she brings me more joy than could possibly be allowed, and
I love her more than my heart knows what to do with. I searched for more Saturn aspects to possibly
ease my mind with the concept of "glue" and being bound together by those aspects, but was even more depressed
to confirm what I already knew that we have only one Saturn aspect.
A loose conjunction of her Saturn to my Ascendent.
I started a thread a while back about Saturn aspects between parents and children, and it seemed
consistent that most parents and children have many Saturn aspects. My daughter and I have just the one.

I'm trying to take this negative information with a grain of salt, but it's upset me beyond belief, and
I can't seem to shake this feeling of dread. If anyone has any information they can share with me
from their own personal experiences or knowledge involving House rulers, I would be so grateful!

Thanks so much!

Gem

Don`t believe these doom-prophecies. They stem from medieval times, and they are usually never accurate. Or let`s put it different. They just give you ONE option, usually the most negative one, when there are so many others.

Ruler of 5th house in 12th house, could also mean that your children will be highly spiritual, sensitive kids.
Or you could get involved in a love affair with a spiritual, highly creative person. Of course it could also be someone who tries to escape realities (drugs, alcohol and such things), but that isn`t necessarily so.

You may be able to combine spirituality and creativity, you could write children books, which are full of fantasy, dreamlike.

There are many more option, just think about what the 5th and the 12th house mean and combine the symbolisms with each other.
The 12th house will be the field, you are expressing your 5th house energy / traits / talents.

Do you have a strange hobby? Something others can`t relate to or understand easily?

With the 5th house in 12th house, there could also be a strong spiritual bond between your children and you, maybe also a karmic connection.
Maybe her birth intensified or woke up your spiritual interst?

DD, after reading your post I think it was the first time in days I have been able to breathe. Thank you so much.

I searched and searched the internet for an explanation that wasn't all doom and gloom and wasn't able to find any. I've been worrying myself to death, and giving myself an ulcer these past few days, hovering over my daughter while she sleeps, and going crazy!

Thank you for giving me a ray of light and hope.

And yes, my daughter is VERY sensitive, and spiritual. Neptune occupies her first house, and conjuncts her Ascendent. She amazes me everyday, and I actually have written a children's book she inspired.

Thank you again!

Yes, that fits. Your daughters Neptune conjunct ASC (I have that, too, btw), and your 5th house ruler in 12th house indicating something Neptunian about your children (and your love affairs, but the 7th and 8th hosue would have something to say here, too).

And she inspired you to write a children`s book. What a clear expression of that aspect!

You probably will not find much on the houserulers, as they have been forgotten, for ages (until pretty recently), and so there are usually only the gloom and doom phrophecies with them, predicting bad health on ever 6th house, massive debts on every 8th house person and prison and loss or going crazy on everyone with a 12th house emphasis.
But I hope we can interprete a bit more multilayered, now.

BTW fear and uncertainty is something that could also be tied to the 12th house. So you fear (12th house) for your children (5th house).

The only problem I see with the houserulers is that the charts change so much, depending on the housesystem used. Maybe that is why they were forgotten for quite some time.

So true DD, I have yet to find anything positive written about the 12th House. That's why whenever anything in my chart references it, I get really worried. I think I'll stop looking into House rulers on the internet for the moment, or until they can come up with more updated interpretations that won't scare me.

Neptune conjunct Ascendant! You must be incredibly creative. My daughter suprises me everyday with her imagination and creativity. I have a Saturn dominated chart in comparison to her Neptune dominated chart. She opens my eyes to the subtle miracles of everyday.

And you certainly provide her a secure place to live out her fantasy, a protected space. It is important for a Neptunian (evne though may not always like it), they need someone to keep them grounded. Who could do it better than a loving Saturnian parent?

It is funny actually, my parents are a bit Saturnian, too, and VERY earthy (I have only Venus in earth); I never thought about how necessary that was for me and my brother (he has Sun and ASC in Pisces).

My Dad`s VirgoASC is exact conjunct SAturn, with his ruler Mercury in Capricorn.
My Mum is more watery actually (much Scorpio, but also Virgoan), her Saturn conjuncts my Pluto exact.

I guess I can be creative, and my inclination to all things spiritual may be reflected by this Neptune.

Oh positive interpretations of 12th house:
the sea - spirituality - dreams - astral travel (if you see it positively) - spiritual wisdom - being guided - creativity (but not in such a visible way as the 5th house represents creativity)

I am moving away from house placements myself including house rulers.

House placements are relative with so many different house systems (there are over 30)
and different zodiacs like the Sidereal Zodiac.

Sidereal Zodiac Astrologers including especially Vedic Astrologers use house rulers too. Much of Vedic Astrology is focused on house rulers. Planetary combinations called 'yogas' largely depend on house rulers.

in Tropical Zodiac,
my 12th house ruler (Sun) is in 3rd house because Leo is my 12th house and my Sun is in Scorpio in 3rd house in whole sign house system. It's in 2nd house in Placidus,Koch,Equal house, and many other house systems.

in Sidereal Zodiac,
my 12th house ruler (Moon) is in 7th house because Cancer is my 12th house and my Moon is in Aquarius in 7th house in whole sign house system, but it's in 6th house in other house systems.

Thanks DD, I like your interpretations of the 12th House a lot better!

I think it's a blessing when "saturnian" parents like yours can teach their children important life lessons and keep you grounded, but still be nurturing and supportive of your dreams!

GGG,

You have to remember that learning astrology [on the internet] can be exactly the same as when learning about sex in the street. You can get a lot of really wrong information and it has already caused you temporary psychological damage in the form of anxiety and sorrow over your daughter.

1. Jupiter in the 12th is considered to be a guardian angel aspect.

2. When you mentioned that your daughter is your hidden joy, that explains it perfectly. Jupiter is the joy, the 12th house is considered the house of things that are hidden - like spirituality, large institutions, imagination - the house that cooks your visualizations.

3. Whatever planet RULES your 12th house is the planet that affects your 12th house, not necessarily the planet IN your 12th house. For example: If Uranus trines your Jupiter, your 5th House will shake and quake like an earth quake in terms of fortune, creativity, romantic activity, reproductive activity, happiness, joy, children, all of those things. You may get some 12th house vibrations, but your 5th house bells will be ringing off the hook.

That's how it works.

What planet rules your 12th House?

When planets transit your 12th house ruler, then 12th house issues will pop up in terms of the sign it's on, accute and chronic illnesses can be a factor but not a doom or death sentence.

Thanks so much for explaining that GV! I think I'm getting it now.

So my 12th house cusp is on Cancer, so my 12th House ruler is the Moon, which falls in Gemini. I will feel 12th house issues when planets make transits to my Gemini MOON!

I'll feel 5th House issues when planets make aspects to my Jupiter, because it's the ruler of my 5th!

I get it finally! Thanks so much for clearing that up for me!

Thank you for this!!

GGG,

BINGO!! You've got it.

DD,

Thanks for helping me to implement what I now call "The Little Stevie Wonder Law" which states: "If you believe in things that you don't understand then you suffer. Superstition ain't the way."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul7X5js1vE

Even though a lot of this is connected to superstition in one way or another, it's best to research in several places and check with others knowledgeable in the subject before...you know...freaking out. LOOOL!!

GemGemGem, You have nothing to worry about,
a 12th house Jupiter is a protective Jupiter. This is the placement that will save you in your 11th hour.
Count your lucky stars Sweetie.

As for it ruling your 5th house and how that may signify your daughter, she's with you and protected. Those interpretations are for malefic planets and Jupiter is very happy in the 12th house (co-ruled by Pisces)

Put those negative thoughts out of your head.
Your baby's going to be fine and so are you.

one last point, you might not be feeling all of your Gem/Air energy because your stellium is in an Earth house (Capricorn)

Out

Hello, I didn't see you Geo

GV,

how did I help you?
I mean I can subscribe to the Little Stevie Wonder Law, I feel the NEED to understand what I am doing, that is the only way I can trust in its validity.

Sometimes?

you are kidding me, right?

WEll, my mother repeatedly said that I am completely incapable of managing "ordinary life-stuff", because I am kind of out of this world.

Last week she changed it into: "You are well capable of ironing, cooking, cleaning up, you are just too lazy to do it. You don`t want to!" in a rather accusing, and maybe a tad envious, tone.

She has Moon, Venus and Mars in Virgo. lol

Yeah, she sometimes gets upset, because I really misplace EVERYTHING. I never know where I put things, and most of the time I don`t even care.
Let us not start on mobiles phones or phone numbers. lol

Interesting that your mum is very Virgoan, too.

But as I said it, maybe us Neptunians need this earthiness in our parents.

That is so funny because I have Saturn in Virgo in my first House, making hard aspects to my Sun and Mercury. I'm very Virgoan too. My Neptunian daughter is such a dreamer and never picks up her toys or cleans up after her messes.

We are such opposites, but I'm trying to train her early, but I can definitely see potential for laziness there!

Thank you Lalalinda, I appreciate your comforting words. I will try to keep a peaceful mind about it.

And yes, you are right all my planets in my 10th. Strong Earth Cappy there, and with Taurus on the cusp. It makes for one stubborn Gemini!

OH Gem, I don`t want to dishearten you,

BUT

my mom trained me early, too. She did everything right, yet, I am a hopeless case in this regard.

But of course not every Neptunian is that extreme I think.
