OK - so I knew the basics (sun, moon, ascendant) and what they meant, but nothing more.So..... I bought a book, and I did some charts online. Then..... I set off to interpret what I was seeing and...........got stuck! I see myself as a reasonably intelligent person, but the language in these books is a mystery to me, and seems to assume a base level of knowledge. I am completely lost (and perhaps a little impatient??).....what do I do next? Conjuncts, trines, oppositions......all a mystery. HELP!!

Hi Eskimo;I'm just figuring all this out myself, and it takes time. Don't try to cram it all into your brain in a short time. Some things need to sink in, until one day, you get an "aha!" moment. But, what I did was this; ok, say your chart says you have Neptune in Scorpio in the 7th house. Just google that whole sentence, like this: "Neptune in Scorpio in 7th house natal." That will pop up a bunch of different sights for you to read the interpretations. Take what you feel is meaningful to your from each one that you read. You can copy them, or make notes. I got a whole notebook and sort of divided it up in sections, and when I learn something new I write it down. Same thing..like google, "Sun Conjunct Asc" and you will get several places to look up what that means. Just go through and google all of your aspects and placements, then you should have a pretty good idea of your chart. But, like I said, don't rush it, you may get frustrated from cramming all that in! I had to quit for a few days, and then go back. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Thanks Gypsee - this is helping already - I can see how you can get a bit lost in it though! Great tip for anyone like me, just starting out with this.It is fascinating, especially where some of the placements seem to conflict. I have just looked at my Venus in Capricorn and Mars in Aries......it explains a lot!! I am sure I could be accused of being too simplistic, but one step at a time eh? IP: Logged |

Not simplistic at all, ya gotta start somewhere!!Yeah, the conflicting ones are a whole lotta fun. But, nobody is perfect! I had my major aha moment looking at all the nasty stuff aspecting my Venus, which totally explained just about every relationship in my LIFE! Somewhere in the back threads I wrote about it. Something like, "It's not them, it's me!" So, you can imagine what that was about!! *love Venus in Cap people, btw. IP: Logged |

Honestly, just try an Astrology for Dummies book. It'll give you the basics and after that it really starts to come together. Books by Derek & Julia Parker are also good for starting out.IP: Logged |

if you go to london, or live there, try to visit "WATKINS" excellent bookshop between trafalgar square, covent garden and leicester square; not just about astrology but THE best bookshop I ever entered. regarding the question, I think gypsee is right, go with what appeals to you first, don't bother with everything. astrology is endless... your chart shows houses, starting with the asc as the first, and so on. different people use different house systems, some use the equal house system where the degree of the asc is used in every other signs to determine the begining (cusp) of the rest of the houses: say your asc is 10 virgo, then your second house would start at 10 libra, third at 10 scorp...that is one but there are many other systems. placidus is the default system on astro.com and many people use astro.com I have nothing against it but I simply don't undErstand why the houses have different size in t is system and how they come up with it. I need to find that out I guess. IP: Logged |

I don't have time to search around much but at first glance this looks o.k:- http://www.aquamoonlight.co.uk/aspects.html
First thing I thought was that you need a better book.

deflwerthis, on astro.com, if u use this website to create charts, you will notice on the top of the chart, there is written "blah blah something subscriber" and the line below or above that, I can't remember, there is written "blah blah pdf file". well, u click on "pdf file" so you end up with a list, it's your chart but with everything written down; somewhere on it, you've got a list of Numbers in front of each planets, that is the house in which the planets is located. obviously, if you select a different house system before to draw the chart, you could get some changes of houses, and the numbers wille differents. I hope that helps.IP: Logged |

wow - thanks for all your input guys.I got all giddy last nite, and have been counting down the hours at work today so that I could get started again! Gypsee - thank you for you kind comments on my Venus, but it was was the Mars that was ringing my bell - tee hee! Pire - please don't cry. I am tempted to ask how I know what planet rules each house (cos you all talk about it), but I will take your advice and take it one step at a time. The book I bought was Parkers Astrology, but sounds like I need something simpler for starters. IP: Logged |

"Pire - please don't cry." "how I know what planet rules each house" well it depends which sign is on the cusp, if you are a cancer rising like me, the moon rules the 1st, then sun (leo) the second... am I replying to your question? IP: Logged |

I don't think I am ready for your answer!Do the planets always go in the same order? And is the cusp where the ascendant sits? And when you talk about 'Cancer rising' does that mean Cancer is your ascendant? Excuse my ignorance. IP: Logged |

"Do the planets always go in the same order?"aries is ruled by mars taurus by venus gem by mercury cancer by the moon leo by sun virgo by mercury libra by venus scorp by pluto sag by jupiter cap by saturn aqua by uranus and pisces by neptune "And is the cusp where the ascendant sits?" no the cusp is the limit/begining of each houses, there are 12 cusps, for the 12th houses "And when you talk about 'Cancer rising' does that mean Cancer is your ascendant?" yep! just ask!
