Slowpoke - I tested this for myself, out of curiosity. There are particular things I see as significant in my chart based on past experiences, and there are also particular placements I've really enjoyed interacting with.
So I made a few charts like this - a while ago.. years ago.. and looked up the people on xanga and livejournal etc.. and they *were* compatible. I liked most of them lol

you once did mine, too, and I checked them, and I still owe you a feedback.

So I thought most of them were great for friendships, but I really can`t see myself falling in love with these aspects (or men whom I share these aspects with).

An example would be the Sun-Jupiter-conjunction; just a wonderful great thing, I agree.

But strong, even challenging, Pluto aspects are falling out of your list (as common sense would tell us to; they are not a sign of great compatibility after all); yet, without strong Pluto aspects or at least strong aspects to my Venus I will not be attracted. Proven over and over again.

Of course attraction is not the same as compatibility.

But I think that our individual compatibility depends on our natal charts rather than on general aspects, valid for anyone (even though they can be pointing into a good direction, too). I am not totally sure about this, but so far it seems that in most synastry charts of relationships natal aspects are repeated or the complimentary aspects appear.

Example:
A has natally a Saturn-ASC-conjunction

In the synastry with B there often will be a strong aspect between Saturn and ASC or Saturn and Mars or even an aspect between Saturn and Venus.

This is one of the aspects my parents share (my Dad has SAturn-ASc-conjunction).

They don`t seem to be very compatible on a first glance, with their Sun-Sun-square, DW Saturn-Mars conjunction plus SAturn-Venus conjunction (but these are binding factors in any case), Venus-Mercury-square, Moon-Uranus square and even the Sun-Moon-opposition may not point to actual compatibility (even though attraction is there), and my Dad`s Aquarius Sun nearly exactly squaring my Mom`s Scorpio-Sun.

We were discussing the MR 90 P absence on my aspect list. And I ended up explaining my position as someone who prospects for aspects. I notice through our discussion that you are no novice in Astrology, so I geared my discussion accordingly. The dates I sent you were to encourage further discussion supporting what we were discussing, but your reply never happened. As you recall, I did make further contact with you to explain that some dates I sent you were indeed extraordinary, with aspects of a strong S conjunct JP and an unnerving MR square P. These dates were to be points of discussion. I contacted you because I did not want you to think that this was something I would give to the public. The MR square / opposition P aspects are flagged items. When they appear, the automatic selector steps over them, leaving those dates alone.

The nice thing about Synastry Astrology is that it can be used as statistics. I can help others get a gauge on understanding what they might like. This is why some people come to use now, they want to get a gauge on what they have.

In real life, though, most people can care less about what Astrology has to offer. They don’t need it. These are the people, like my folks and yours, who know that a good relationship requires commitment, trust, understanding, compromise and, adjustments to make their relationship work. And I believe, they never once looked at any Astrology chart of any kind to see if they are doing things right or, if what they are doing, is going to produce a desired result later. Their lives are for people like me, who have to pull out a book to see if I can psycho analysis what they seem to know naturally. I use them as my guide post to help me compare and learn. The bottom line to all of this is this, does the relationship work with or without the help of out side sources and tools. For those, who can make it work with the tools we use, great. For those, who can make it work, without the tools we use, that’s great too.

I have noticed that one of the main ingredients to a happy comfortable long lasting relationships, is that the people are friends with each other as well. This applies to lovers, military buddies, band members, business companions, platonic lovers, young team mates, high school chums, old college buddies etc. . . all the way out to senior citizens. Compatibility does not reside just in the love and sex planets we look for in a relationship through Astrology, there are plenty more planet influences within that unit that should be considered as well. That is, in my humble opinion (smile).
