Don't you just love reading a novel or book and being able to spot the influences at work in them? I've been reading this novel and the whole thing is just one big Venus/Neptune orgy.

You have the main character who is super impressionable, never wants to age so he practically sells his soul for eternal youth, falls in love with a girl because of who she pretends to be, then falls out of love with her when she reveals herself.

Then you have another big character who's a big hedonist and aesthetic (Venus, venus, venus), and a painter who's also aesthetic (venus again).

And no, I haven't finished the book yet so don't spoil it for me! But if anyone wants to know why bad Venus/Neptune aspects annoy the crap out of me, just read Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

I had that pleasant feeling after reading "I, claudius". I have it from quite a reliable source that the writer had a lot of Leo in his chart and I thought it rubbed off on Claudius nicely.

It's probably not supposed to be a comedy story, but I couldn't stop laughing with all the typical Leo references in the story. If only people knew...

I tend to look for astrological influence of the writer in books that I read and I find that there are actually a few where you can't notice the general "self-insertion" that much!

I'm afraid it is easier to spot in my writing, too.

I think that way --with songs. For example the song "So Lost in You" has to be Pluto love. lol

Oh, don't get me started on songs! There's so much you can notice in songs astrologically!

Especially when the artist wrote their own songs

Oh, actually the books from Kathy Reichs (probably better known as the tv-series "Bones"), show the author clearly profiling her characters based on her own chart. I couldn't find her birthdate yet but I bet she has Gemini moon.

Good point! I know Oscar Wilde has a 5th house Jupiter (like me! ) which would probably explain the hedonism from Lord Henry who was suppose to be his mouthpiece. And he did start the aesthetic movement, and also happens to be a Libra! Let me look at the rest of his chart and see.

There are other books where sign influences are sooooo obvious....let me think. Oh yes! The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas is so obviously Scorpionic, no? Or maybe the Hollywood version of it brings that out? *shrugs*

Oh no, you aren't hijacking! In fact, thanks for reminding me of the songs....I know alot of Gwen Stefani's stuff that reflects her Libra sun for instance.

Yay! I love threads on music!

Oh, there's also Maeve Binchy. Her chart (or more specifically her Pisces moon) clearly shows in the kind of stories she writes!

Omg, I thought the same thing with Dorian Gray!

I even posted about it in someone's literary characters thread.

I think Dorian is such a libra/pisces blend!

How observant! Benedict

I remember being so in tune with JANE EYRE because it reflected so strongly Venus/Saturn/Pluto dynamics ~

Oh, I loved "The Picture of Dorian Gray"
Did you get in in the full picture version? If not, I recommend it.
This story is nothing with all texts. In fact, the pictures told almost the whole story..

There's also Chiron in the mix, because that guy got a battlewound deep with regards to beauty and youth.

I think Madame Bovary is a Neptune/venus/pluto theme.

Gone with the Wind is pluto/saturn/neptune to me.

I actually have to add pluto into the mix for Dorian Grey. I would say why, but I don't know how far into it you are...

Diana: Yeah, thats probably why I can't stand the character Dorian Gray....I can handle neptune with any other planet EXCEPT venus. Give me neptune/moon (which I LOVE since I have it in my own chart), neptune/sun, neptune/mercury (also in my chart), or even neptune/mars....but NEVER neptune/venus (libra/pisces). I have such an irrational aversion to the combination....though not so irrational since its based on personal experience.

@ Lonake: That's funny you say that, because when I read Jane Eyre a while ago I had her pegged as a Virgo and Mr.Rochester as scorpionic.

Fleurdelis: No, unfortunately I didn't get the full picture version....but Im digesting it nicely with the words (Oscar is quite poetic). I'm a gemini venus/virgo moon though...I get on just fine with words.....hahaha. And yeah, I would agree that there's probably some chircn there too with the serious pain he felt over the fact that he wont be young and beautiful forever, and the probability that he'll end up wounding himself in the end with this vanity and delusion.
