Which house system is more/most accurate?I personally find Equal/Koch more accurate than Placidus. Am I right? How about Koch vs Equal? IP: Logged |

I find Placidus more accurate. But you probably will find as many opinions on this topic as astrologers are. IP: Logged |

Glaucus,I am the same as you. It`s actually frustrating. I see the flaws of the housesystems, and see the logic behidn the whole sign houses or equal system, and yet, I switch back to Placidus everytime. I think I have been through this process nearly half a dozen times in my astrological life till now. But even though it does not make ANY Sense at all, it seems that Placidus seems to work (in an interpretative sense) even at higher latitudes. I once was doing a chart for someone, born in Sweden, with ASC in 14 Cancer and IC in 14 Leo. I prepared two horoscopes, one with equal system, one with Placidus. I gave her both and asked her which she found was describing her personality and experiences best (I did not tell her which housesystem I had used for each of these interpretations). I was nearly absolutely CERTAIN she would pick the one with equal system. But she didn`t. She said the one interpretation (the one with Placidus houses) described her absolutely perfectly, so much as a matter of fact that it was almost a bit creepy. (I had known her for just a few weeks; and I didn`t really know anything about her past at that time). Needless to say, I was really flabbergasted. IP: Logged |

I find Placidus to be more accurate. I have read interpretations of different houses in synastry for other people, and when I describe what is happening or how they would see each other I get a "oooh ooh that one for sure!" response most of the time when I use the placidus system. Also, if you have doubts about Placidus when it starts making the houses uneven if they are born in certain parts of the world, use the Alcabitus house system on astro.com. It is a time based house system just like Placidus but unaffected/not nearly as sensitive by the location where you are born unlike the Placidus house system.(meaning no incredibly tiny houses scattered around the chart with HUMONGOUS first and seventh house incidents in the chart unlike Placidus which can be somewhat comical) It will reveal nearly identical results as the Placidus house results unless planets are near house cusps in Placidus. In that case they'll probably switch houses. Also, that house system was used in Egypt as early as 505 A.D., so to me that restores faith in the Placidus house system as well as it isn't perfect.(I don't think any house system is though) However, I would use Whole House System if you don't have the correct birth time or guessing someone's ascendant just to be on the safe side. Koch, that's the one I like. There's no right or wrong. It's dependent on your interpretation so whatever feels right for you.IP: Logged |

I like placidus. I am big on degrees of the cusps because I think that's very unique to the individual and crucial in accurately predicting anything in astrology. I'm a big utilizer of the cusps and I also used fixed stars, so I need an accurate degree on the cusps. Everyone is different though.

I would suppose that for most the chart doesn't change too much from one to another.Mine changes alot. My Sun, Merc., Venus stellium moves from house 7 to 8, My Saturn moves from house 2 to 3. With Koch, my NN moves from 29'Aries in the 2nd to Taurus in the 4th. I have alot of other things going on in houses 2, 3, 7 and 8 anyway. So it is completely confusing as to which is correct. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

Thanks to you all for the responses I was comparing Equal-Whole-Alcabitus-Placidus-Koch yesterday but I only had time to look at my own natal. The planets placement in Placidus is different from the others. I think others can better describe me in REALITY while placidus can better describe what i EXPECT of myself lol. I'd love to consider placidus more accurate but i must face myself honestly So far I like Koch most IP: Logged |

That's ok.House systems are one of the things that astrologers tend to disagree with. Orbs is probably the number one thing that astronomers disagree with. Raymond

Hi Karena,I think it's the other way around. The Placidus Houses describe the REALITY and the Equal Houses describe what you EXPECT, like an ideal. The Placidus Houses mold to the true shape of the earth in nature, therefore you can get extra wide houses in higher northern and southern hemispheres. Many astrologers don't like to see that happen in a chart and many astrologers don't know how to handle it, but it's the REALITY. Equal houses mold to a neater "appearance" of the chart and what we want it to look like. It's equal to when astrologers see a chart with almost all of the planets in one sign, they don't know how to read it and they worry that all of the other houses in the chart are empty but the chart is absolutely readible and you can have an individual with a grand stellium in one sign and one house and that person can be absolutely diverse in every way. But yes, different astrologers use different house systems, including equal houses, and they make it work well. I think it's what each astrologer vibrates to the best. IP: Logged |
