I was thinking of Sappho recently, when I realized that some of the actors I really admire often have their Sappho conjunct or trine my Moon. Curiously I have seen them all live or talked to them.

Three have their Sappho conjunct my Moon. Three! And they belong to different generations.

One had his Sappho-Mars-Venus conjunction trine my Moon - I didn`t know him before, and did not really admire him, even though he was good; he grabbed my attention when he jumped off the stage and kissed my hand though. lol

One other actor does not have his Sappho aspecting my Moon, BUT his Sappho is exact conjunct my Vertex and Eros, squares my own Sappho-Musa-DNA conjunction in Libra and exactly opposes my Sun-Moon-mp.

So I am interested to know how others experienced Sappho-aspects.

Personally I think it has to do with passion that leads to refined creativity.

Natally Sappho is in Libra in my 10th house:

conjunct DNA, Musa and Kassandra
opposing Chiron and Phoinix
squares Saturn (3), Eros and Vertex
squares Sun-Moon-mp
trines Moon (3)

That is what I found:

"Sappho

Sappho signifies aesthetic refinement; the desire to bond deeply with or feel the same way as others. education of females in the fine arts; emotional extremes in love; friendship needs; poetic ability; romantic and artistic sensitivity; same-sex bonding that exceeds ordinary friendship; the sensitisation of individuals to their sexuality; sensuality; the sharing of aesthetics, artistry, interests and values; and sociability. Inharmonious aspects to Sappho indicate difficulties in forming close friendships; loneliness; problems in expressing or understanding love and sexuality; and trouble in balancing of intimacy needs with other areas of the personality. Sappho's natal sign placement shows what the individual does for or with close friends; while its natal house placement shows what he or she most needs to share. In synastry, Sappho highlights sensual and sexual attractions. Transits involving Sappho highlight common ground between people and accentuate interaction with close friends. The glyph for Sappho represents linked Venuses. Key words: passionate, sexual attraction, artistic, genuine appreciation, poetic."

I once read in an article, too, that Sappho relates to the very biological sexual attraction; just sex, nothing else. But that was really odd, it just doesn`t make any sense with Sappho`s symbolism.

Per IQ's info, sexual attraction, poets, artists, refined culture.

Amy, Cancerians usually dig art and culture. If you aren't artistic you probably have appreciation of art.

My Sappho opposes my Pluto and trines my Logos at the same degree.

I have been writing lots of poetry lately and have at critical periods in my life.

This one placement,if nothing else, shows me the truth about Astrology.
I have played the piano and guitar since I was young.
When I had no passion and little love, the thing that always fed me was music.
My unaspected Venus WAS aspected the whole time.

I am heterosexual so the Sappho , for me, must be creativity cuz it was my love when I had little else.

Ami Ann,
Sappho is intense desire. Intense emotions; love, desire, longing. Expressing strong passion towards another. There is a strong physical, raw sexual component to it, so I tend to look at it in the same context as lust.

In my own chart:
Sappho and Lust conjunct my Ascendant

But it's on the 12th house side of my ASC, so I don't show it to everyone, I tend to keep it hidden. It would be more noticeable to everyone if it was across the ASC into the 1st house.

Did you also look at the aspects with your guy?

In our composite:
Karma/Sappho/Lust all conjunct in 8th house

In our synastry:
His Sappho/Lust conjunct my Karma
His Sappho squares my Eros

My Sappho/Lust/ASC conjunct his Karma/North Node/Hera/Cupid

My Sappho/Lust/ASC square his Pluto/Lust/Eros

His Sappho/Lust falls in my 7th house.
My Sappho/Lust falls in his 8th house.

And yes, its very powerful.

What about Sappho falling in someone's 1st house?

VIG,

how would you interprete a guy`s Sappho conjunct my Moon, which rules my 8th house? (oh and trine my Karma, too)?

I read that if Eros falls in your first house--which it does with my guy--you are very erotic and you have those erotic vibes as part of your personna.
Maybe--it would be similar for Sappho. Sappho seems to have a more creative, refined feel to it than Eros which is more raw--from my limited understanding.

BTW VIG,
I disagree about your equation of Lust and Sappho.

Lust is the pure physical hunger, while the passion of Sappho stems from a place of deepest longing and yearning.
Not just a satisfying of your instincts.

DD,
"how would you interprete a guy`s Sappho conjunct my Moon"

The guy's "feminine side" is very tuned in with your emotions and feelings, may be? He is very receptive to your "moon side"?

Yes, DD , that describes Sappho,I think.
It is not lust or even Eros.
If you ever saw Six Feet Under where the man's wife dies and he sits next to her casket and dies.
That would be Sappho
What does any one else think?

That's interesting...it probably is similar. But I'm curious about if it falls in someone else's 1st house, in a synastry chart.

My own, natally, falls in the 6th houae, in Taurus. The other person's falls in his 8th (Scorpio). But both fall in each other's 1st - curious to know how that plays out.

I'm sorry, but you're missing the erotic tone of Sappho. Passion, desire, longing. She wrote about intense desire and longing for another person, be it man or woman. This isn't chaste, love from afar, "Oh, you're so beautiful." This is "Oh, you're so beautiful, and I want you." This was mutual pleasure, of being with someone. Of physically being with the other. Of being released from her pain of longing through a physical act.

"She was one of the first poets to write from the first person, describing love and loss as it affected her personally."

"Her style was sensual and melodic; primarily songs of love, yearning, and reflection."

"That Sappho's poetry was not condemned in her time for its homoerotic content, suggests that perhaps love between women was not persecuted then as it has been in more recent times. "

_____

Have not had one word from her

Frankly I wish I were dead
When she left, she wept

a great deal; she said to me, "This parting must be
endured, Sappho. I go unwillingly."

I said, "Go, and be happy
but remember (you know
well) whom you leave shackled by love

"If you forget me, think
of our gifts to Aphrodite
and all the loveliness that we shared

"all the violet tiaras,
braided rosebuds, dill and
crocus twined around your young neck

"myrrh poured on your head
and on soft mats girls with
all that they most wished for beside them

"while no voices chanted
choruses without ours,
no woodlot bloomed in spring without song..."
______

Please
Come back to me, Gongyla, here tonight,
You, my rose, with your Lydian lyre.
There hovers forever around you delight:
A beauty desired.

Even your garment plunders my eyes.
I am enchanted: I who once
Complained to the Cyprus-born goddess,
Whom I now beseech

Never to let this lose me grace
But rather bring you back to me:
Amongst all mortal women the one
I most wish to see.

_____

On the throne of many hues, Immortal Aphrodite,
child of Zeus, weaving wiles--I beg you
not to subdue my spirit, Queen,
with pain or sorrow

but come--if ever before
having heard my voice from far away
you listened, and leaving your father's
golden home you came

in your chariot yoked with swift, lovely
sparrows bringing you over the dark earth
thick-feathered wings swirling down
from the sky through mid-air

arriving quickly--you, Blessed One,
with a smile on your unaging face
asking again what have I suffered
and why am I calling again

and in my wild heart what did I most wish
to happen to me: "Again whom must I persuade
back into the harness of your love?
Sappho, who wrongs you?

For if she flees, soon she'll pursue,
she doesn't accept gifts, but she'll give,
if not now loving, soon she'll love
even against her will."

Come to me now again, release me from
this pain, everything my spirit longs
to have fulfilled, fulfill, and you
be my ally

_______

To Andromeda
That country girl has witched your wishes,
all dressed up in her country clothes
and she hasn't got the sense
to hitch her rags above her ankles.

_____

Some an army of horsemen, some an army on foot
and some say a fleet of ships is the loveliest sight
on this dark earth; but I say it is what-
ever you desire:

and it it possible to make this perfectly clear
to all; for the woman who far surpassed all others
in her beauty, Helen, left her husband --
the best of all men --

behind and sailed far away to Troy; she did not spare
a single thought for her child nor for her dear parents
but [the goddess of love] led her astray
[to desire...]

[...which]
reminds me now of Anactoria
although far away,

_____

To Atthis

Though in Sardis now,
she things of us constantly

and of the life we shared.
She saw you as a goddess
and above all your dancing gave her deep joy.

Now she shines among Lydian women like
the rose-fingered moon
rising after sundown, erasing all

stars around her, and pouring light equally
across the salt sea
and over densely flowered fields

lucent under dew. Her light spreads
on roses and tender thyme
and the blooming honey-lotus.

Often while she wanders she remem-
bers you, gentle Atthis,
and desire eats away at her heart

for us to come.

I meant that but could not say it right. It is Romeo and Juliet love----right?
It is the love that when one dies--the other follows.
