Saturn Uranus oppositions April 26 & July 26 2010

My 2008 post on the Saturn Uranus opposition has been my most read astrological post so far, and it’s time to review what I said then and give an update pertinent to the situation now and the upcoming face-off between these two planets.

Just to recap, every 45.4 years Saturn opposes Uranus. This is always a challenging aspect and occurs with varying degrees of intensity depending on the signs involved, other planetary positions, and whether the opposition happens three or five times. This time, the opposition is notable for occurring five times and for involving hard aspects to Pluto. The first three passes were in the signs of Virgo and Pisces, often deeply disturbing the lives of people born under these signs.

The fourth, April 26 2010, is also in Virgo/Pisces, at 28 degrees, most affecting those born at the end of these signs plus the other two mutable signs Gemini and Sagittarius, ie March 19, June 20, September 22 and December 20. The last pass on July 26 2010 occurs at 0 degrees Aries and Libra, affecting most those born or having significant placements in the early degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Back in October 2008 I characterised the series of oppositions as a struggle to adjust our relationship with authority and our notions of freedom, both individually and collectively. Ways in which we are being too wild get reined in; ways we have been too cautious and limited are shattered, breaking us into new perspectives and experiences, sometimes with great discomfort. Globally we have witnessed a series of financial crises over the past two years that have rocked our collective sense of stability, and many corporations and even nations that were formerly considered reliable have foundered. The April 2010 pass of Saturn/Uranus has curtailed our freedom courtesy of a huge cloud of volcanic ash.

In the UK we have also had a big scandal around expenses abuses by Members of Parliament; a more realistic appraisal of the effects of binge-drinking and over-eating; a fading of the obsession with celebrities and vacuous television programming. This cultural shift into realism and pragmatism can be seen astrologically as reflective of the symbolism of Pluto being in Capricorn rather than Sagittarius, but it is also characteristic of the seriousness to make new, to “Work on What Has Been Spoiled” (to quote from the I Ching), that is perhaps the best outcome of Saturn/Uranus.

In 2008 I wrote: “For all of us, the acute phases of the opposition (when it is closest to exact) give us the chance to observe deep-seated patterns and change them. Then the opposition works to heighten our awareness and allow us to move forward into a new way of being. The Saturn Uranus opposition is all about renewing our relationship with authority. This can manifest in many ways depending on our disposition, such as growing out of childish fears, accepting life has limits, finding the courage to stand up to injustice, and coming more fully into our own authority.”

The next two passes of the opposition give us the opportunity to refine what we have been learning since mid-2008. April 26 occurs while Saturn is retrograde and Uranus is moving forwards. In theory this suggests that the radical side wins out over the cautious side, and real change can happen. It’s good for excising unwanted things from your life, (I’ve been ripping off wallpaper as well as grappling with more serious and confronting issues; the wallpaper has been a good externalisation of the inner process), and for the final stages of long-term efforts to clarify and break free of old patterns. This often feels uncomfortable, but don’t be afraid to confront old patterns that hold you back and/or are self-destructive. We often make too much drama around events and reactions that really can be so simple once we just face reality and deal with it. The Saturn Uranus combination cuts the crap — it is chilly, concise, abrupt, and wants to make good that which is sentimentalized, unrealistic, over-fussy. Look for the underlying goodness and relief in letting go rather than in dramatizing and clinging. Trust the life force and the forward movement of your life.

The July 26 opposition at zero degrees Aries/Libra is super powerful, occurring at a Full Moon and when Jupiter and Pluto are exactly square at 3 Aries/Capricorn. So Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct in the first degrees of Aries, Saturn is opposite them both in Libra, and both ends of this opposition square onto Pluto. Jupiter amplifies whatever it touches; Pluto intensifies. Mars is buzzing along to join the party by July 29 at 0 degrees Libra. And on July 31 the Moon hits 0 degrees Aries.

During this intense period, (which will probably be felt from the preceding New Moon on July 12 through the first two weeks of August), everything we have been going through with Saturn opposite Uranus, every squirrelly, squirmy place deep within us that resists maturing, that refuses to accept our actions have consequences, that is indulgent of self and others to the point of mutual annihilation, that balks at needed change, that squanders our inspiration and creativity, comes up for examination. In the big picture, this means grappling with climate change, nuclear power, nuclear weapons, scientific breakthroughs, political accountability, and the long term effects of aggression. Individually, it means finding the courage to move forward with confidence into a rapidly altering world, even when you don’t know what the outcome will be. Because we never do, do we? The illusion of control is not an option any more.

This is a portion of a longer article about the opposition:

The fourth phase takes place April 26, 2010, again in exact aspect to Neptune. By that time we likely will have integrated the lessons of the Saturn/Uranus opposition and are better prepared to take the steps necessary to move forward. Neptune demands that we become visionaries and transcend boundaries that limit ordinary mortals, and in doing so there is sometimes a dissolving of aspects of our life that limit us (Saturn). Challenging Neptune times require that we pursue a disciplined (Saturn) spiritual practice (Neptune) that enables us to open up our eyes and our mind to a completely new way of being alive on the planet (Uranus). This third and fourth phase will be extremely exciting for those who are able to let go and enjoy the roller coaster ride, and less comfortable for those of us with more fixed natures (like me) who have a high need for control and safety.

The fifth phase on July 26, 2010 occurs at -0- degrees Aries and Libra, within range of a square to Pluto at 3 degrees Capricorn. Normally the late stage of a multi-phase planetary cycle is less difficult than the earlier stages, because we have usually assimilated the necessary planetary energies by that time. The addition of the square from Pluto will create greater urgency and pressure for conflict and war in order to achieve the goal of change and transformation (Pluto) into a new way (Uranus) of living as societies (Saturn) in the world.

This fifth phase of the Saturn/Uranus cycle is actually the harbinger of two Pluto cycles: the square from Saturn to Pluto (visiting three times between November 2009 and August 2010) and the square from Uranus to Pluto which will come within winking distance in July 11 but not perfect until June 2012, continuing through 2015. I'll cover these other major cycles in separate articles, but you can see that what happens during the Saturn/Uranus opposition will set the stage for the next eight years.

Knowing this information is not useful if we use it to scare ourselves to death. It's important to view these cycles within a framework of faith and understanding so that we can use the information to our advantage and not become overwhelmed by it. This is a time to examine our own lives and see where our life is not authentic, and where we are not being true to ourselves (Uranus) and where changes need to be made to the structure of our lives (Saturn) as a result. This is the perfect time to cultivate faith in the natural flow of life and to increase our understanding that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. It's a wonderful time to learn to let go when all of the doors to our desires are closing, but to remain strong in our intention to manifest a life of beauty and adventure that resonates with our deepest Self. This after all is the ultimate challenge of any planetary cycle.

Saturn in Virgo Oppose Uranus in Pisces, which is going to have FIVE exact hits (3 is 'normal') over the next 2 years, anchoring then next 40+ years. These are two energies that get together like this every (approx) 42 years (half of the Uranus 84yr cycle) and they shake up our fundamental foundations and structures to bring in new life, new energy, new ideas and new directions. My creativity has been sparked again, here and there, but I'm not having fun with it (yet). I need to find the clay that I bought, and see if playing with that will help to loosen me up, though I need to keep enough aside to make my runes, once I've gathered the information (again). I started this project at the end of November/early December, when I went outside to collect small rocks and stones from my driveway.

the Saturn-Uranus opposition in 9th and 3rd house is square Ascendant/Descendant axis in my current lunar return.

It might have something to do with reassessing my belief systems. I haven't been to church in over 2 months. I am going to go tomorrow. Of course, I have doubts about mainstream Astrology. I am also dealing with skeptics of Astrology.

We've actually all been dealing with the precursory signs of this energy since Aug 2007 when Virgo activated in opposition to the ongoing subtle long wave revolutionary energies of Uranus in Pisces. Virgo brings forth practical useful forms in the 4 worlds of consciousness across the 3 dimensions of human experience, while Pisces feels the wholeness of the entire cycle of experience ending within a larger sea of Absolute Consciousness. In this opposition can be found the mystery of the Passage and how to preside over transitions by mastering and demonstrating the evolved elements of our inner Priest, Priestess, Healer and Shaman.

Learning the full implications of dealing with this one inner polarity could fill a book, as does any thorough exploration of any human archetype. This article won't explore more than the basics, which are considerable in their implications for our world and humanity.

In this opposition we'll learn what works, what doesn't, and see practical forms of our Divine Individualizer. We'll deal with opposing energies that are two expressions of One Force through the eternal power dance between Uranus and Saturn, "father" and "son," Will juxtaposed with Time, Spirit with "the Great Work."

Here it's useful to remember that flexibility is a virtue in an Age in Transition.

This dance will show through Virgo-Pisces forms and experiences, one of the 6 polarities that are the twelve signs of human experience. All polarities involve opposing forces, and we can measure the health of how a sign is functioning in our chart by checking out how well we are expressing the virtues of the opposite sign.

All signs exteriorize through its opposing sign. While often difficult, oppositions are actually the best aspect for bringing forth higher "Spiritual" realizations, since we are in fact forced to resolve the dilemma of "the pairs of opposites," as it is termed by the Arcane School.

The opposition between any Earth sign and Water sign is to focus on using any other Earth or Water sign to generate the understanding and productivity of the sextile and trine to that opposition. (Yes, it also works the same way with any Fire opposition Air polarity.) Capricorn is one of the Earth signs, the zone where the possible becomes actual in the realm of personal command. Capricorn is where we crystalize our personal power function in the social realm as we begin to harvest the meaning of the entire cycle that preceded that phase.

At this time, we can use the power of what we've learned from Jupiter in Capricorn trine Saturn since December 2007 to get a handle on the Saturn opposition Uranus. Jupiter has made many different aspects to both Saturn and Uranus throughout the year, first while direct in motion from Jan to May, then retrograde from May to September, and now direct again, in constant trine to Saturn through the end of 2008.

So we've had many opportunities to become organized, disciplined, methodical, determined, and persevering in doing our duty and fulfilling whatever training "obligation" we owe ourselves during the time of Jupiter in Capricorn. And it's easy to understand with the Earth trine between Jupiter and Saturn, so the Saturn function should be fairly clear to each of us.

There is, however, another powerful configuration occurring that involves the extraordinarily productive Jupiter sextile Uranus also occurring. As I related some months ago, anyone with a planet or sensitive point between 16 through 25 degrees of Leo has experienced a Yod, or Finger of God, on that planet at times in this year due to the Jupiter sextile Uranus in that span earlier in 2008. This has created many "expansion through sacrifice" types of experiences and interactions squeezing us out of old magnetisms and clearing our focus for the immediate future.

Jupiter's stationary direct point being one of radical self-transcendence and exactly trine Saturn will open opportunities to mobilize ourselves to substantiate forms of "gain" on material, emotional, mental, and Spiritual levels of life. This is a "go for it" type of aspect, with each step secured becoming the stepping stone to the next secured material form. But there will be sacrifices.

By November 2008 many things will be very clear magnetically, even though a second potential Yod is in major force through the end of 2008. Besides Jupiter and Uranus stimulating 17-22 Leo, Saturn will quincunx Neptune opening 17-23 Aries and Cancer as zones of productive activity. This makes mid to late Cancer exceptionally important, since it's the void of the sextile and trine made by Jupiter and the sextile to Saturn. It will generate positive lessons and opportunities, even if those lead us to have to sacrifice some Aquarian parts of our life to make room for newer forms.

This has major implications for what will expand when Jupiter moves through Aquarius and makes its quincunx aspects to Saturn, giving us new lessons, openings, and closings through the adjustments and sacrifices indicated by the quincunx aspect. To anticipate a question, Of course a sacrifice involves more than just one object. Any single person or event is merely one of many forms around that lesson.

Through it all, reflect on what has been or is being squeezed out of your hologram and how you are achieving focus. The value of sacrifice is that it eliminates that which is no longer "true" for us, regardless of what we think or feel about that. Through seeing what is conditionally "true" for us, as well as the wisdom we distill from that experience, we can find meaning around our process of Self-realization.

Through Jupiter in Capricorn, we're finding opportunities to express our authorship wherever our duty points us. This is helping all to feel differently about the immediacy of our experience, however we feel that. As we learn to find the right points of view of the opposing forces we move through, we can understand the inner and outer dilemmas and dualities from more effective approaches.

The gift of repositioning our view is it offers different angles of illuminating a given person, experience, or lesson. Once you illuminate the object from multiple angles of lighting, the shadows are dispelled. Jupiter is offering some clear opportunities in 2008 that we'll be able to use effectively in the future for as long as this opposition lasts.

On a final note, what we learn of Uranus and how to live its Higher Law in the near future determines much of what will come forth for us personally when Jupiter moves through Pisces and conjuncts Uranus opposed to Saturn in April, May, and June 2010. This triggers the huge disruptions affecting the entire world. How we've positioned ourselves in 2008 and 2009 in terms of practical skills and initiatives, as well as our sense of higher group purpose, will entirely determine our experiences in the transition zone of 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Yeah, me too. I've got retro tr. Saturn now within 3 degrees of my natal 1st house Pluto too. AND tr. Uranus is trining my natal 3rd house Jupiter in Scorp. Whooo-wheee. This is fun. Actually I'm feeling really good, in a weird, "glowy" of way, like I'm radiating serious vibes. I'm happy with my diet, and I'm getting intot eh swing of exerciing--even got up at 5 AM to go for a good long hike.

This tr. Sat-Ura opposition is also forming a t-square with my natal 10th house Sun at 24 Gemini. Not surprisingly, I've feeling very bossy today.

The tr Uranus in my 7th house is making me dwell on relationships too. But I don't want to be in a relationship so much as I just want to be married. Like, skip the romance, let's go down to the courthouse and fill out the papers kind of vibe. Except the guy I would like to do this with is in a "serious" relationship with someone else. I try not to dwell on that part, as I start getting crazy thoughts in my head, like going up to him and slapping him, saying "Idiot, you could do better--like with me!" Damn Cap moons. They go with who make them feel secure first and foremost, and only later realize that person may not exactly make them happy. Anyhow...

Good luck with the dating sites. I tried E-Harmony, filled out their personality thingie and was impressed on how well they nailed many aspects of my personality. Then I saw the kind of men they matched me up with, and it was...beyond depressing. It was worse than the kind of depressing blind dates my friends have set me up with in the past that left me feeling "God, is that what my friends really think of me? Suitable for this high school drop-out, chain smoking loser???" My easily discouraged Pisces moon couldn't take it, so I closed my profile there after about 2 weeks. I hope you have better luck than I did!!!!

This is all in my 10th house of course, on the cusp of my 11th. I've now been seriously trying to find a new job because my current job has been horrible for me. Hopefully it works out soon. Plus I've had a batch of close friends move away the last few months which has been really rough on me since I don't have any family out here.

Tr Uranus is approaching my DSC nad is cj Abundancia.

Tr SAturn is now cj Merc 12th and moves back and forth my ASC.

as you know i was very afraid of changes,as a good virgo is...so i know that these are times of BIG WOHWO Changes.

as i was reading it i was welcoming the changes.i still dont know in what areas will be,but as you said,it will be for my good sake.

as pluto/Ceres is cj my IC with karma there i know that this will also take place at my deepest self and it is already translating into bad nights of sleep with many nightmares into it.

i hope that at least this will make me free of these fears/doubts.

Today we see Saturn retrograde is again exactly opposed Uranus, indicating we're in the heart of the Cosmic Centrifuge! Everywhere in the world, people are being purified in major ways, with the whirlwind flinging us all away from some people and situations and toward other people and situations. The dross is being purified by centrifugal motion, so get ready to pour off the purified essence of what's left in your life into a new container!

The first time it happened at 25 Virgo-Pisces in September 2009, Saturn was direct and Uranus was retrograde. Now it's happening at 29 Virgo-Pisces, with Saturn retrograde and Uranus direct. This is the final opposition from these signs, since the next (and last) time these two Titans opposed each other it will be from the critical degrees of 1 Libra to 1 Aries in late July, with Mars in Libra and Jupiter in Aries amping up the energies considerably!

As I described last Autumn when it first happened, this is an extremely heavy influence, with a lot of pressure and major separations between past and future for everyone. I suppose this is because we must become empty if we are to be filled with new contents, symbolized by Jupiter and Uranus entering Aries in just a few weeks.

Saturn already showed us new archetypes of Being and Doing between November 2009 and January 2010, when it went retrograde. Between then and early April 2010 we've been retracing those steps into new archetypes and relationships and getting new perspectives and wisdom around those possibilities.

It's now re-entered Virgo, bringing echoes of lessons of 2007-2009 back into focus. We're now finishing up the final individual Spiritual lessons involving getting educated and experimenting to find what works and what doesn't to prepare us for the re-entry of Saturn in Libra in late July.

A whole new world of living is upon us, so see how you have escaped from "a narrow destiny" thanks to the Eclipses of the past few years and take a new look at how the Ancient Wisdom you have embraced in your life is now bearing fruit. Look at how your persistence, patience, aspiration and willingness to work toward these has now established these virtues in your life to whatever degree.

Uranus has revealed forms of abundance in some revolutionary way in March and April. We are now seeing the light split into the spectrum and the husk fall from the seed. This is a time of breaking apart and potentially enlarged perception. Here we take command of some natural process by which we can confirm our past discoveries and find a greater experience and accomplishment aligned with our Higher Wisdom.

Though Uranus is an invisible Transpersonal Individualizing force, making its effects far-reaching yet not obvious in a personal way, whatever Uranus is helping us separate from now will prove to be a blessing in May when Jupiter transits this Pisces opposition point. These blessings will be firmly established in September-October 2010, and part of our life by January 2011.

This opposition between Saturn and Uranus, whether amped up by Mars opposition Jupiter or not, is extraordinarily powerful. As I wrote last Autumn,

... The opposition between Saturn and Uranus (Oranos) is the stuff of legends, of mythological power struggles between the forces these two planets symbolize. We're all living within this larger struggle challenging our ability to hold the tension of opposites while bringing forth higher realizations in whatever life realm we must.

Saturn is Dharma, the "Ring Pass Not" and the Binding Force of Time and Inertia. It is where our socio-cultural limits and structures meet our Transpersonal Self. Uranus is the Divine Fool, the "Aleph" that forever individualizes on its own terms in the Eternal Quest. It shows how we become our Uniqueness manifesting a form of the Divine Law of Synthesis.

Oppositions polarize, but also show how any given thing externalizes its essential nature. Thus when used correctly, this larger opposition shows what we must exteriorize of Eternal Dharma with Love, Wisdom, and Intelligence. This will be unique according to how we each respond to our Saturn and Uranus dynamics within each of us.

Still, the opposition is affecting everyone on clear and concrete levels, whether they're using the energies wisely or not. Everyone has been living within this "beyond-our-control" set of factors bringing forth polarizations, separations, clarifications, and the surfacing of new forms in our lives, freed from old impurities.

I have observed this opposition is working on many people like a centrifuge. In a centrifuge, the force is so strong that whatever is in the vials inside the centrifuge separate into various densities, with impurities condensing at the bottom and the clearest, purest liquids collect at the top.

I believe that is happening to everyone right now, in the sense that impurities are getting flung to areas apart from our "pure consciousness." We can now "pour off" the purified mind, feelings, and actions into new life containers and see ourselves apart from the impurities of our past.

Of course, given the centrifuge will continue to spin for quite some time, expect to be flung into some things and people and away from others! And keep pouring off the purified Being into more appropriate containers. At the end of this you'll be very, very clear in many ways.

So if you're feeling stressed, or in an opposition to someone or something, see it as a deep purifying opportunity and stop resisting. Allow yourself to be separated from whatever "dense material" is or has been creating the distress. The emptiness you experience will be the void that attracts the new materials already being shaped according to your particular need.
