Hawthorn supplements are relatively inexpensive as herbal supplements go. I can get a bottle of 180 capsule of Nature's Way brand for about $13-14 from Sun Harvest here, and with taking one in the morning and one in the evening, that's a 3 month supply. Arjuna is a bit more pricey and harder to find.

I use Alvita Hawthorn tea and add that to whatever tea I'm brewing. It's about $5 a box for 24 bags. Some other brands, like Celestial Seasonings and Traditional Medicinals add hawthorn to some of their tea blends too.

We managed to find Arjuna on the internet, and he gets a third of a capsule crushed, once a day. I was thinking about adding Co Q10 to the mix, but I don't know if that would be too much, if given along with the other two.

We have Alpha Lipoic Acid in the house; the vet said that was a great supplement, but I'm wary of throwing it in with the others - having too much of an assault on the body, if that makes sense. I also started adding flax seed into their food, once again - at least when I can given them the raw food mixture that we make ourselves.

I suppose I should relate this to astrology, before we get some sort of warning. Both dogs developed their problems during Mars retrograde. I remember Diana mentioning heart problems, in relation to the retro period. Mars also rules my Sun, and I just gave up on things for a while. When it was close to turning direct, I started to make small plans again (only to have them blown out of the water, but there you go). I'm tired of certain things and am figuring out what needs to come next.

I can relate this to astrology very easily: I have Mars in the 6th house. I'm obsessed with things like health and diet. Oooh, and if it comes in tidy, little pills in tidy little bottles that I can keep tidily on the shelf at my disposal, all the better!!! LOL. I'm giving everyone here a good example of how a 6th house Mars behaves.

I started taking CoQ10 after I had a scare when I was in my late-20's, during one of my worst bout with depression: I had a dream one night that a dead friend of mine was standing at my bedside, yelling at me to awake up and if I didn't awake up right then, I'd die. And when I actually did wake up, I remember first feeling very numb and then suddenly my legs and arms felt really cold, like hypothermia cold--but this was mid-July in Texas. It was so painful I thought to myself, "This must be what it feels like to freeze to death." I lay there for a bit until my limbs warmed up, and then when iI got up and went into the bathroom, I saw my hands in the light was a shocked: they were completely gray. And when I looked in the mirror, my face was gray too. I looked like all the blood had been drained from me. I stayed up, put on two layers of clothes and went outside in the humid 80 degree July night to warm up and walk around a bit. After that my color came back to my skin. I don't know what happened--I may have had some sort of cardiac event in the night that momentarily stopped blood flow. I just don't know. I can't afford to see a cardiologist to see if I had a heart attack. But after that, I started taking CoQ10. I think it does help, as it helps me feel less fatigued and have more stamina. I currently take about 200-300 mg a day myself.

I don't think CoQ10 would be too much for your Bertie. It's something the body creates naturally--it's just with stress, illnesses or advanced age, the body's ability to make it decreases.

Now more astrology:

My post-full moon Wednesday so far is SUCKING. "Volatile"? Not quite. But stressful, yes. My Leo-Aries brother showed up HOURS earlier than I was expecting, completely ruining my plans for the morning and afternoon, because once he's here, EVERYTHING has to revolve around him. And my Gem-Cap mother has been on my nerves since I woke up. Moon in Scorp is still in my 2nd. I just want everyone to go away so I can have the house to myself.

For some reason, I'm feeling very Capricorn-ish today. Very pernickety, very annoyed with other people's weaknesses and disorder--especially my mother's. I have a 10th house Gem Sun that acts sort of Cappyish when stressed. Right now, my Sun's the apex of a t-square formed by tr Saturn and tr. Uranus. I'm trying to not be a royal demon bee-atch today. Really I am. Don't know how much longer I can contain myself though!!!!

cherle, I wanted to respond to you. I'll try tomorrow, hopefully.

I hope things are calming down for everyone. I've had a great day (for the most part). Good weather, good company, and I finally got some sleep last night.
