Since all of the houseruler talk lately, I've become curious how these work because I'm not sure I understand them. I understand that the house ruler "colors" a particular house..but what confuses me is the actual placement of that ruler in the chart. For example, Venus rules my 7th and 12th houses but my Venus is placed in my 1st. How does this affect us, when our houserulers are placed in different houses? Does this mean my 7th and 12th house issues originate/stem from 1st house issues? IP: Logged |

The house a planet rules, is the issue / subject; where the planet is place is where this issue is being expressed.Example: Neptune as ruler of 5th house in 3rd house: Creative selfexpression (5th house ruler) is expressed through communicating / writing / speaking (3rd house). This happens in a very imaginative, sometimes confusing way (Neptune as ruler).
Mars as ruler of the 4th house in 9th house. One`s deep emotions (4th house) are being expressed in one`s own philosophy / beliefs (9th house). Or one feels emotionally drawn (4th house) to foreigners / university / religion (9th house matters). A beliefsystem / philosophy (9th house) is of utmost emotional importance (4th house) for them,a nd they will be passionate, enthusiastic about their beliefs and fight for them (Mars as ruler). This is a great topic I don't understand it all either...neptune rules my seventh and eighth houses and is in my 4th house, from what I've heard this could mean an inheritance, 4th hse (family), 8th house (others money)..and because its neptune....it could bring hassle...or it may be meant for me and i may not get the inheritance for some reason....then when I think about it, if neptune is also ruler of my 7th ...maybe it could be my future spouse's family that leaves him an inheritance? It's all so complicated lol. IP: Logged |

Angel, another possibility to interprete it would be: in a committed relationship (7th/8th house ruler) you need to feel at home (in 4th house) with your partner. Maybe the home you could have could be located near to the ocean (Neptune). But it is only ONE possibility of interpretation. I actually do not like these eventoriented interpretations; i like the psychological ones more. The eventoriented actually are just a "derivation from the underlying symbolism. Example: Ruler of 2nd house in 8th house: Some books write that this means the owner is working and earning money through the money of other people; could be to do with insurances for example, or working at a bank. BUT the underlying theme is: searching and finding security (some people equal money with security - that is how it comes to that symbolism for 2nd house) in committing to something, a person or a principle (8th house - and again, to work with other people`s money, you have to be trustworthy, you have to stand by your MORAL PRINCIPLES and be LOYAL AND able to be a bit secretive - all 8th house symbolism).
It is my own combination. I do not work with the money of other people, no insurances, no inherited money (and I have 2nd house ruler in 8th house and 8th house ruler in 2nd house). I am not earning money with the death of other people. I am not a prostitute (earning money - 2nd house- in the field of sex - 8th house).
BUT I can relate very much to the underlying principle. Developing own principles I am sticking to (8th house) is the way I can get security for myself (2nd house).

Would this just be an example, DD or anyone who cares comment. I appreciate it very much. I have Taurus on the 7th house cusp. I value Venus qualities in my relationships like harmony, graciousness etc. I have Venus In the 7th house. So,would that add to the interpretation?
Also, for example, I have Scorpio Ascendent so Mars/Pluto rules the first house. Mars is in the ninth so my most important drive is spiritual/religious/higher education which is true. Pluto in the 10th house conjuncts MC. I have always wanted to have a good reputation. That has been very important to me even though it sounds silly to write, maybe.
I feel that my struggle has been to find an identity(Saturn is in the first) and also be a member of society : to be an authentic self and not to lose that self in order to fit in to society. Please let me know if any of this makes sense. Ami
