Weekly Weather May 10, 2010

Remember what Yoda says to Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars": "Do or do not--there is no try." Take Yoda's advice. Give it your all when you do something. And if it doesn't work, start over.

Saturn is playing with us big time! Saturn is toying with our heads. Saturn is having a good old time up there in the heavens! It is ULTIMATE DO YOUR SATURN time! Kind of like those Ultimate Sports Show where they jump off mountain tops or Ultimate Eating Contests where they eat vats of Mayonnaise, we each need to be doing our Saturn to the Ultimate and Utmost degree each and every day.

Saturn is at the last degree of Virgo, talking to Uranus and Neptune at the last degrees of their signs. Mercury is telling Saturn’s current ruler, Virgo, to give us final exams in our life’s training. As our life’s work is centered around the work we are to do with our Saturn by sign, house and aspect, we are having Saturn exams! We aren’t just talking final exams on what we’ve learned since Fall 2007 when Saturn entered Virgo the last time. We are talking a comprehensive LIFE EXAM that goes back ALL the way!

First look at the DEGREE of your Saturn. That was the age you were when you first experienced Saturn’s impact in your life. What happened at that age around your authority figures, particularly your father, when you experienced fear, loss, shame, revulsion, humiliation, restriction or anxiety. Or where you were very mad or any other Saturn word above, AND didn’t have a solution from the adults in your world so you had to handle it yourself. Or insert any of Saturn’s OTHER words? It was a story that didn’t go so well where the seeds of asking for what you wanted got restricted or inhibited.

Next, what have we learned since November 16, 1977 to September 21, 1980 when Saturn was last passing through Virgo? What have we learned since Saturn started a new 28 year cycle and entered Aries from April 7, 1996 to February 28, 1999? Or at a minimum, what have we learned from September 2, 2007 to now?

Mercury is still retrograde in Taurus (through Tuesday) and doesn‘t clear his shadow until May 28. Saturn stations direct on May 30. We are having final, comprehensive exams the rest of the month. These are true tests where we have to stand up and be the grownups in the room, even if we don’t much want to do it at all or are feeling VERY whiny and not at all in our power space. DO YOUR SATURN!! ULTIMATE DO YOUR SATURN!

In my case, Saturn is in Scorpio in the 8th house, joined to Venus so I have trouble asking for what I want from others and setting boundaries, particularly around love, desire and money as well as other Scorpio things. At age 6, my Saturn was triggered by Solar Arc degree and I encountered Saturn in Scorpio for the first time. A few stories come to mind, but for the purposes of the column, I will limit myself to one.

We moved into a brand new house with a big bathtub. My father (Saturn) gave us baths when he got home from work while my mother cooked dinner. I, the Virgo child, was the oldest at 6. My brother, a Taurus was 2 ½ years younger and my Gemini sister was 4 ½ years younger. So, 6, 3 ½ and 18 months, all three in the same tub AT THE SAME TIME to save time and bath water. Not that my father was particularly environmentally conscious regarding saving water but that was the routine. Ivory soap floated around the bath tub so the water got all gray and murky.

And my brother would pee in the tub. And giggle.

My brother is a Taurus. He LOVES his body fluids. I am a Virgo. I am okay with MY body fluids but not so good with mingling with your body fluids unless I really, REALLY like you. I would sit watching, watching very carefully. His penis would move, the bath water would move or change color ~ not grey, but a yellowish swirl of color eddying and changing near his penis. He would giggle.

I would leap out of the tub, shouting that he peed in the tub! My father would tell me to “Sit back down. Urine is sterile!” Sterile means absolutely nothing to a Virgo child. Pee, well, that is a different story!

There were many, many machinations and variations on this story, each and every time it was bath time. Sometimes I WASN’T paying attention when I would hear the giggle and KNOW my brother had peed. Sometimes I would catch the yellow eddy before it spread out and leap up, out of the tub. I would refuse to share the tub. I wouldn’t sit back down after he peed. I was offered the dirty and used bath water which I KNEW my brother had peed in after my siblings used it. I was offered the bath water first which was my preference. I cried and refused to communal bathe. Finally, my mother intervened ~ showers were invented! I could take my own shower, all by myself, before my father got home! No more shared tubs. I left that grey, ivory soap and pee filled water behind. And, I’ve never much liked baths since.

The stories that go with the other years of Saturn above reflect this ongoing Saturn story that I‘ve been working on and with my whole life. Feeling entitled to set boundaries and have things my own preferred way, particularly around Scorpio, Venus or 8th house or Saturn issues when other people want something different, has been my Saturn journey.

So last week, Saturn appeared in my living room in the form of Kombucha, a fermented algae drink that smells like a swamp. One of my most favorite students brought a bottle of Kombucha as part of her dinner. Kombucha explodes when shaken and Kombucha is shaken when it moves!

I’d ordered new living room furniture and have received my freshly recovered reading chair already. It was before class started. I am sitting at my computer, with my back to the room printing a last handout, when I hear a collective intake by the class of “ohhhh” ~ Saturn’s new version of my brother’s giggle. I turn to see my student running from the living room toward the bath room. I smell the swamp gas odor of Kombucha. The swamp gas juice exploded. Scorpio rules swamps. Fortunately, no swamp gas juice landed on anything important or not washable but I was thrown back into my early childhood trauma with Saturn.

So I started to fret and worry. What if she brings swamp gas juice to class again? What if it explodes on my new couch, rug, chair or footstool? What if, what if, what if. We’ve all had our Saturn take over our brain. You get the idea. You, the reader, are sitting there saying to yourself, “Well, silly you, send a note out to the class saying no more exploding drinks in your house. It is YOUR class. It is YOUR house. YOU are the authority there!” But you don’t have MY Saturn that says you have trouble setting boundaries with other people. And, yes, I’ve been in classes in homes where the teacher only allows water and nothing else to be consumed. Or, yes, I’ve been in homes where the owner doesn’t let you eat or drink in their living room. But can I set that boundary for MYSELF? Well if I do, that means I am doing my Saturn.

I did, FINALLY, after rolling around in the emotional swamp with Saturn for a few days, get to “Send a note out about the foods and drinks that can be brought to class because you have new furniture.” Then it took me a few days to figure out how or what exactly to write. And, of course, once I finished with that Saturn test, I had a few OTHER set the boundary experiences with Saturn too. All week long it was “Set the boundary! Set the boundary!” Arrgh.

And, as I listened to each and every one of my clients, it was a “Do Your Saturn” week. I kept taking them back to “Do your Saturn”. We haven’t had that serious set of Saturn energy in a long, long while. Of course, Saturn is at the last degrees of Virgo ~ of course he would be asking us to work with him!

One client wrote wanting to know why she kept attracting men she needed to fix who looked good on the outside before she got to know them ~ Saturn in Gemini ~ they had two realities, were two people. And, no, she doesn’t have to fix them any more! Another client hates her work and feels like a failure, so her Saturn in Aries says she‘s supposed to be brave and do the work she loves not the work her family approves of and she hates. But that is very hard for her to give herself permission to do the work she loves! A third client is dealing with the betrayal of difficult people in her profession saying horrible things about her in the press ~ Gemini Saturn can tell lies. She is deciding what to do about it going forward and feeling like she is existentially retching. A fourth client, with Saturn in Cancer, is struggling with family matters, inheritances and an aging mother. A fifth client with Saturn in Aquarius is trying to figure out what to do about committing to partner while maintaining her freedom to create her own life. A Pisces Saturn client was dealing with her orphan issues and how to not have them show up in her children after her recent divorce. A Leo Saturn client wondered why his girlfriend didn’t love him the way he loved her even as he sat waiting for her to wake up and call him. And so it went. Saturn. Saturn. Saturn. All week long. And all next week too! And the week after!

You get the idea. Our Saturn is up, dancing around the room and bringing forward the issue(s) that we’ve struggled with all of our lives. The fear place. The not good enough place. The lost sad part of us. The part where we feel like a 5 year old even though we are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 or more. Saturn is asking us to show how good we’ve gotten, how clear we are, how much of an authority we are now (even if we don’t feel like it) in the area he wants us to build competency in during this life time.

Do your Saturn. Show Saturn what stuff you are made of!

Look at the age you first encountered Saturn ~ the degree Saturn is at in your chart and meditate on how that experience colors the experiences you are working with right now in your life. Then tie in the dates above. Look at where Saturn is by sign and house placement. For extra fun and jollies, look at your Capricorn and Aquarius ruled houses to add to the Saturn experience a even more detailed description of what you need to do.

So your walk away from the column this week is DO YOUR SATURN! A lot. Do your Saturn a lot! A LOT!!! Every time you feel like ducking or crying or over whelmed with Saturn fear, stand up straight, chin out, chest extended, shoulders down. Breathe. And do your Saturn!

The week is quiet enough with only Mercury stationing to go direct on Tuesday and the New Moon on Thursday. Underneath it all, we will feel a great rumbling. Aside from the Saturn energy in the air, there are a number of planets changing signs. Even cursory readers of this column know minor planets changing signs can cause significant turbulence. Let’s talk about the MAJOR planets getting ready to change signs.

We know that Pluto shifted into Capricorn in 2008 and brought the financial markets and Iceland crashing down. Over the next few months, we have 4, count them, FOUR major planets changing signs and quadrants. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Chiron all shift signs and aspect Pluto. Quadrants are sections of the chart that describe the focus and direction the planetary energy wants to move in. When the four planets change signs, they will all aspect Pluto in Capricorn at virtually the same time and fight with him. So we will have 5 planets fighting in the heavens all summer long! It is going to be fun! That is why it feels like the world is shifting and changing around you so very profoundly. IT IS a PROFOUND shift! And next April, yet another planet, Neptune, changes signs into Pisces, for the first time in 164 years, making the world shift yet again.

The six planets that are shifting signs and quadrants are called the generational planets. Astrologers use them to describe the generations born under them. We are having a major, Major, MAJOR generational shift. Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto take between 12 years and 248 years to circle the Sun.

When Pluto changed signs into Capricorn in 2008, he entered a new quadrant, the fourth quadrant, which means major change for the collective. Pluto was last in Capricorn from January 8, 1762 to December 1, 1778 ~ encompassing the Declaration of Independence from England’s authority. The USA Pluto is in Capricorn so we are soon to have our Pluto return. Pluto takes 248 years to go around the Sun while it only take earth 1 year to travel the same journey! Pluto will be in Capricorn until November of 2024.

Jupiter enters Aries for the first time in 12 years, since February 1999, starting a new 12 year zodiacal cycle, entering a new quadrant, the me first quadrant! The last time Jupiter entered the me first quadrant the dot com bubble collapsed and Y2K mania was all the rage.

Saturn enters Libra for a 2 year journey on July 21, 2010 and enters a new quadrant, the partner with others quadrant. The last time Saturn was in Libra was almost 30 years ago, from September of 1980 to August of 1983, the beginning of the Reagan years and the end of the Carter years.

Chiron entered Pisces on April 20, 2010, where he will remain until February 18, 2019. He takes 50 years to meander around the zodiac and last was in Pisces between March 26, 1960 to January 30, 1969, spanning the Civil Rights, Women’s Movement and Gay Liberation. As you can guess, Pisces is in the fourth quadrant of change for the collective.

Uranus enters Aries starting a new 84 year zodiacal cycle, enters a new quadrant, the me first quadrant and joins up with Jupiter, expanding his energy even MORE and making it extra explosive and chaotic. The last time Uranus was in Aries was March 31, 1927 to March 27, 1935, when Great Depression took place. Uranus will be in Aries until March 6, 2019.

Neptune won’t change signs until April next year, but he’s casting a lovely ending and dissolving energy on all the planets that ARE changing signs and quadrants this summer as they each aspect him and dissolve their boundaries before entering their new sign and quadrant. Neptune takes 164 years to move around the Sun, so he was last in Pisces from April 1847 to February 1862, the beginning of the Civil War. Next April, Neptune moves into the last sign of the Zodiac and ends a cycle that started with the Civil War in the fourth quadrant of change for the collective.

So when you are not dealing with Saturn asking you to get clear on your Saturn issues, you are feeling the impending changes arriving soon in the heavens and reflected down here on earth. Part of the reason that Saturn is picking us so much is we need to be crystal clear on our boundaries and in control of our fears to deal with all the changes before us in a competent, collected and cohesive manner. We have to be able to Do Our Saturn with a high level of skill or we will have extreme trouble with the energy coming soon. So do your Saturn consciously. Get comfortable with your old issues. You’ve worked on them most of your life. You understand them quite well. You actually know what to do most of the time. Saturn is pushing on you to show him you’ve got it. So show him so you can get your diploma and progress to the next level which is arriving in your life very soon!

Monday Moon in Aries has starting new dream energy as it finishes up the lunar cycle with a closing conjunction to Neptune. We dream the dream before we make it happen. Watch who and how you partner today as there are two sides to the story. No use getting your knickers in knots as the inconjunct to the Node of Destiny requires you to live in the moment and deal with the changes as they arrive in your life. Sun fights with Pluto about stupid stuff ~ wanting things to stay the way they are in a world of change. Pluto just laughs at the ego of Sun which assumes it can FORCE things to be the way it wants. Change is the mandate. Change, ever change.

Tuesday finds Mercury stationing direct. Expect shocking or surprising news around siblings, communications, cars, transportation or people from your past. Mercury stops and delivers a bit of drama that is one of his favorite things to do. There is a terrific idea that encourages you to create something that you love. It will be a busy night of dreams so on awakening, write them down as there might be inspiration(s) for your future or the shape of the new dream to come. Moon in fast Aries gets a great deal of tasks accomplished today. Mercury stops and shifts direction at 6:27 pm shaping the future quietly yet firmly.

Wednesday finds Moon in a happy place, exalted in Taurus and connecting people as she listens to Venus in Gemini link up the dots and information she’s received over the past few days. Mercury is in the mood to fight with Saturn as he pushes away from Saturn’s critical nature by declination. Remember Mercury is actually in CHARGE of Saturn right now but even HE can’t take Saturn’s difficult energy. Do your Saturn takes on new meaning as you start to understand the nuances of what your Saturn wants and owning your authority. What does standing in your truth really mean? Saturn represents commitment and where the rubber meets the road in each of our lives. What DO you deeply value? How do you demonstrate that? Evaluate if your strategy actually supports your soul’s path.

Thursday we have the New Moon in Taurus at 23:09. The Sabian image is An Indian, with human scalps hanging at his belt, rides proudly. Kind a dramatic image for the day but, frankly, you might want to scalp someone! Especially a few minutes before Noon eastern time ~ 11:42 to be exact! Anger can rise out of no where. Well, actually not no where. This is a situation that has been digging at you and burrowing away inside of your since late 2009. You NOW know how you want to resolve it! Think back to December 5, 2009 and January 3, 2010 to see the story when it first started to unfold before you. Now you are ready to deal with it while you were not able or willing to handle it back then. Sometimes these things take time to figure out. So watch the anger and act out of your higher self. It was to teach you an important lesson, no matter HOW annoying or difficult it was. And if you find you have a flash or burst of anger or temper, no worries, you are clearing the situation. Try to direct the flash or flare of temper at the actual CAUSE rather than kicking the wall before you. No need to break a toe! Things begun under the new Moon and on Wednesday have a closing aspect of sextile to Uranus so creative actions can be taken that are very supportive of you and what you want to build.

Friday finds the Moon in Gemini and chatty. Closing aspects are separative, Moon square Uranus, meaning it is a great day to begin things that will eventually be divorced or leave you or you‘ll leave. Creative projects are supported. Moon is amazingly busy all night so you are not going to get a sound night‘s sleep. It is okay as people are very scattered today so they won‘t notice you are not at your peak either. Sneak a nap in at lunchtime. Or at least sit with your eyes closed to be able to take on the evening’s energy. Sun joins with Ceres so it is a great creative and idea day. Ceres joins with the North Node of destiny so people become mothers today ~ of creative projects and actual real live babies. Or maybe they find out they are pregnant today!

Saturday Moon in Gemini continues to connect and relate even if the day doesn’t have much in the way of pushing energy. Mars fights with Creation this morning even as Creation is in the process of creating. Important connections are made bright and early so watch who you meet or hear from while out for a walk or at the next table at breakfast. It is a day with mild aspects as was most of the week as Saturn pushes you to take your final exams in Virgo. Be strategic in your conversations today. A few words can cause a situation to unwind that is best left alone.

Sunday find the day split between Gemini and Cancer moons. The principle of nurturing is very strong as Moon has many aspects ~ some easier than others. Sun makes important connections around 2 pm as he links up with the Nodes of Destiny and propels you forward. Mercury trines Ceres so communications with the feminine or your maternal figures is strong. Listen to their guidance if you are troubled. Connect with women you love and the people who nurture and guide you. It is a great day to feel the love. And remember to Do Your Saturn!

Shopping Opportunity!: A client told me they made a big “Do Your Saturn!” sign which they hung by their computer. That seemed like a great idea! I decided to make it easier for you to remember to Do Your Saturn! To the left on my website, you’ll see a tab that says “AstroAnne Store” where you can buy your very own “Do Your Saturn” mug, t-shirt, shopping bag, cap, keychain or mouse pad. The site has the other sayings I tend to repeat over and over again to clients. If you have a favorite astrology saying, send it in to me! I’ll make it into a mug for you.

Mundane:
I loved this quote that a reader sent to me and thought I would share it with you.

We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds... [we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for [another ]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." ~Thomas Jefferson

The stock market drop of 1,000 points pushed people to go “Not so Soon!?” Time is a wasting. Get yourself into cash positions where you can. Preserve your principle. When you look at the Greeks burning the BANKS and the BANKERS for driving their country into such amazing debt, you know that level of anger is boiling below the surface here too. And Yes, we will be seeing much more of that kind of stuff according to the changes that taking place around the globe.

It feels like it is all moving way too fast. On some levels it is. On other levels, we know from the upcoming planetary shifts that the major changes are just beginning. Do your Saturn!

Apparently the Solicitor General, Elena Kagan is the proposed nominee for the Supreme Court. Born in New York City, on April 28, 1960, she’s not a judge but a consensus builder. I find it rather funny that the L word ~ lesbian ~ is being floated around the internet in conjunction with her nomination. Not every single, never married, career person is gay. David Souter, one of our retired Supremes was a single, never married, career person….. Oops was HE GAY? Why is there such an obsession with what goes on in people’s bedrooms, behind closed doors?

Barack Obama has that Jupiter Saturn conjunction aspect in his chart. Whenever he does a good thing, then a bad thing of equal proportion happens or vice versa. He won the Presidential election and his grandmother who’d raised him, died the day before. He got sworn in as President and Ted Kennedy has a seizure at the Inauguration luncheon. He decided to invade Afghanistan and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in virtually the same breath. Recently, Obama decided to open up the coastlines for off shore oil drilling and BOOM, the BP oil rig explodes and spews oil into the Gulf of Mexico. My cousin lives in Texas. When you go to Galveston Beach, you walk on tar balls all over the place. Your feet are covered with tar when you come home as well as your blankets and beach attire. The water has a sheen of greasy oil floating over it and reflecting a rainbow of colors. The gulf water smells like a garage. Now, Texas IS oil country, they LIKE their tar balls, greasy oil and garage smell.

The BP oil spill is threatening to get into the Gulf Stream, ride along for a bit and pollute the east coast beaches. Imagine Miami, Palm Beach, Key West covered with tar balls. And maybe parts of the spill even migrates up the coast to the Carolinas, Virginia, Jersey Shore, Fire Island and the Hamptons? If THAT happens, well, I bet the off shore oil drilling business gets repealed. Our east coast beaches don’t have tar balls, rainbow sheen water or garage smell. As the oil spill would definitely be categorized as a BAD thing, so opening up the coasts to drilling is a GOOD thing? Hmmm. Maybe the oil spill is the GOOD thing, as opening up the coast line to drilling is actually a BAD thing?

Personal: Hopefully, I am back on a timely track with the columns and lunation reports. Thanks to all of you who wrote to me about them. I do plan on posting, obviously kind of late, the missed lunation reports. As they go up, I will let you know in this space.

Oh Belgz you just made me laugh so hard I have no makeup left. Because when my OCD butt read about that bath I felt the same way! How could anybody have done that to their children? People are so bizarre, aren't they?

Oh god, why is she giving lip-service to a tea-bagger? I just LOVE how these people were completely quiet while Bush squandered the SURPLUS Clinton had and then ran up a $5 trillion national debt. Where were these people back then? Oh, that's right, they were too busy calling liberals like me traitors and accusing us of not supporting the troops fighting Bush and Cheney's blood-for-oil war in Iraq.

To these people, a $5 trillion national debt under a white Republican president is OK, but get a black Democrat in house, who has to spend even more just to keep the Bush-Cheney economy his inherited from completely collapsing, that's certain DOOM! Elect more Republicans now! Before that black man in the white house does more to repair the economy!!!! We can't let our grandchildren inherit THAT awful legacy!!!!!

I have no issue with getting off the credit cards and spending within our actual means. We liberals have been advocating that for decades. Cut back on the credit cards, move your money to smaller local banks, save up and pay cash for big purchases, use credit only for emergencies or long-term investments, like college tuition or starting a business. In short: be more financially accountable. Contrary to the crazy conspiracy talk by the right wing about the government burdening us with debt, we are at far more risk at burdening ourselves with debt through spending outside our means with our credit. It's not government that we need to fear, but ourselves, our own greed and our gullibility whenever we get that new credit card offer in the mail.
