I was stumbling across a posting on twinflames again and it struck me how the emphasis on twinflames seems to be very much on complimentarity (different sides of the same coin), while soulmates seem to be more about similiarity / sameness (same sides of different coins?).Now, I am not so much interested in twinflames right now, but I always believed complimentarity to be a k e y in synastric analysis.
But it is just now that I was trying to wrap my brain around how such complimentarity could be look like in astrology.
After a brainstorming with myself I came to this:
primary pairs
Moon - Sun
Venus - Mars
DESC - ASC
(IC-MC)
(Saturn - Jupiter
Neptune - Pluto)
- Neptune is said to be the higher ocatve of Venus, and Pluto the higher octave of Pluto.
In that listing I would consider Jupiter being the higher octave of Sun and Saturn the higher octave of Moon. They have similiarities just basing on different "areas":
Sun-Moon: intrapersonal / core personality
ASC - DESC: physical manifestation axis
Venus - Mars: interpersonal / relating
Jupiter - Saturn: social
Neptune - Pluto: transpersonal / spiritual
(of course these open up the doors to the transneptunian objects too)
secondary pairs
Sun to Venus or DESC
Mars to Moon or DESC
ASC to Moon or Venus
Moon to Mars or ASC
Venus to Sun or ASC
DESC to Sun or Mars

--------------------------------------------
(1) COMPLIMENTARITY IN NATAL AND SYNASTRY
complimentary objects falling in the same signs or aspecting the same planets in NATAL or SYNASTRY (probably both is necessary).
Example:
His Venus is in Aries in his natal chart
her Mars is in Aries in her natal chart
or
His Sun conjuncts Saturn in his natal Chart
Her Moon conjuncts Staurn in her natal
(the sign or planet that is the same, like Aries or Saturn in the example, would of course give a very strong f l a v o u r to the relationship)
The same goes for synastry, too, like in this example:
Her Sun conjuncts his Saturn
His Moon conjuncts her Saturn
(2) COMPLIMENTARY PLANETARY EXCHANGE
If one has a personal planet in the same sign, as the other`s complimentary planet is sitting. If it is mutual, even stronger.
Example:
His Venus is in Leo
His Mars is in Libra.
Her Venus is in Libra
her Mars is in Leo
(3) COMPLIMENTARY HOUSEDISTRIBUTION
relates to NATAL and SYNASTRY
either:
s a m e planets in complimentary houses
or:
c o m p l i m e n t a r y planets in same houses
(BTW the complimentary signs and houses are those in opposing signs / houses, even though I have to consider if it could be transferred to the planetary complimentarity too, but that would mean that Leo was complimentary to Cancer, Taurus to Aries, Libra to Aries, Libra to Scorpio, Sagittarius to Capricorn - hmm gotta think about that, too)
example for natal:
His Venus in his 1st house
Her Venus in her 7th house
or:
his Mars in his 3rd house
her Venus in her 3rd house
synastrically:
his Sun in her 4th house
her Sun in his 10th house
or:
his Moon in her 5th house
her Sun in his 5th house

nodal axis or Saturn in complementary signs, houses, aspecting complementary planets (natal and synastry)
probably also:
complimentary planets in 12th house (in natal and synastric overlay)
(maybe also 4th and 8th house, but those are more personal and may provide a lot of glue)
SPIRITUALITY
------------
------------
The thing that comes up always in the case of twinflames is the association with spirituality, some sort of a mission (and the concept itself is born out of spirituality, so it is no surprise I guess).
Anyway, there seems to be something that goes BEYOND the personal human sphere.
So I thought the t r a n s p e r s o n a l planets or objects would figure in strongly, especially Neptune and Pluto.
So I definitely would expect strong Neptune and Pluto synastry here. Maybe the other transneptunians, too.
So I would be expecting Neptune and Pluto aspecting same or complimentary planets in natal and synastry.
example:
his Neptune conjunct her Sun
her Neptune conjunct his Moon
or:
his Pluto conjunct her Venus
her Neptune conjunct his Venus
(since they are so slow moving, I would cut the aspect at 2 degree orb / 3 degrees for conjunction).

complimentary planets aspecting:
ASC, DESC, IC, MC, Sun or Moon
if the complimentary pair is:
Sun - Moon, it`s an absolute core connection
Venus - Mars, emphasis may lay on the physical attraction
IC - MC, a family like connection, soulbased and future-oriented
Jupiter - Saturn; emphasis on social involvement and on teaching, learning, shaping and encouraging in a personal context (Jupiter and Saturn are BOTH teachers)
Neptune - Pluto; emphasis is on the spiritual sphere
Mercury - Uranus; mental exchange may be dominant.
Hmm, quite a few thoughts for a little brainstorming morning.
