The Saspratas book "The Luminaries" talks about HOW to get out of depression,a sense of emptiness and a feeling of "why bother" in life.
Your Sun is vehicle to take you to who you were uniquely made to be.
IF you are more like your moon--you have not been strong enough in asserting your true self(according to the book)
Your sun is your true self, the part of you that will make you feel you have finally arrived "home", to feel centered and at peace.
When I did have a stronger sense of self, I felt very Gemini.
As I lost it I felt more Cancer-like (moon) until I felt very little Gemini--like.
I can see, for me,that what Sapratas is saying is right.
The thread on Meyer's Briggs got me thinking about the sun and identity.
The book says that if you are an Aries, for example, and you are not living with drive, courage,a fiery nature etc--then you have submerged your true self.
You will not feel a sense of zest and purpose in life.
What do you think about your Sun sign?Does it manifests in your life enough or not?

I want his book. Do you know if I can download it?

I am a Virgo Sun. Conjunct Uranus/Pluto, opposing Saturn in Pisces. I would like to know if I can isolate, so to speak, my Sun from other aspects?

I laugh at Virgo's descriptions of being tidy to the point of OCD. But I caught myself out on endless occasions straightening out furniture or picture frames on walls, because they, well, are not straight.

I find it really frustrating to wash floors, as they get dirty again in no time. But I go around the house picking up specks of dirt or fluff from floors as it irritates me to no end.

If I have an appointment, I will remember the time and the date, and I will be there early.
But when it comes to paying bills, I will leave it till the last moment, still remembering though that it has to be done. Even if I sweep them into the kitchen drawer.

My Sun has many personalities, not just a Virgo.

Where do I draw the line?

Aries makes sense for me: feeling comfortable in my own skin, not so easily scared, knowing that I can take care of myself, trusting (but not blindly), standing up for what I believe in - but being fair about it (no malice), a cheerfulness/playfulness/optimism. Loving to learn new things (combines well with my Gemini Moon - I love to submerge myself in learning something new). A certain physicality (I need to have some fun with it, if possible), forgiving easily.

At the moment, I just want to curl up and sleep, though.

Nice thread Ami Ann...I have a quick thing to add as this really is interesting. I have been studying the meaning of the Sun in Depth lately as Spirit has moved me...and I unearth something quite interesting.
It is a prayer from Pharaoh Akhenaten to the God Aten...keep in mind that historians have linked him repeatedly to the story of Moses as he led the Israelites into a Monothestic worship:

"Great and living Aten, ordaining life, vigorously alive, our father. Our wall of millions of cubits, our reminder of eternity, our witness of what is eternal. Who fashions himself with his own hands, whom no craftsman has devised. Who is established in rising and setting each day ceaselessly. Whether he is in heaven, or on earth, every eye beholds him without hindrance, whilst he fills the land with his rays and enables everyone to live. With seeing whom, our eyes are satisfied daily in this Temple of the Aten and fills it with his own self by means of his rays, beauteous with love, and embraces us with them in life and power forever. -- Ancient Egyptian Prayer"

This prayer to the sun was written thousands of years ago by the Akhenaten to his God Aten. He saw the sun as more than just the source of all physical light, heat, and life, but also as the spiritual consciousness-center of the universe. Akhenaten attempted to create a religion based on his spiritual understanding of the sun, and his astronomers pursued research as far as was possible at the time.

I also found this amongst the writings of the Theosophical University.

"his "solar moss" is actually areas roughly 6,000 to 12,000 miles across of hot gas floating 1,000 to 2,000 miles above active regions on the surface, arcing magnetic flames up into the corona so that the sun's sustaining warmth radiates throughout the solar system. In The Mahatma Letters KH speaks of the magnetic nature of the sun's corona and the great flames and prominences in and above it. He remarks on their correspondences with the aura which may appear around the heads of spiritually advanced people. This aura is immortalized in the halos depicted around the heads of Christian saints and other holy figures."

I had to share that because it helps us to really appreciate how we "shine" through our Sun Signs and if we dont then it is not Astrology we should be analyzing, but our own Egos essence and how we identify with it.

My Sun Sign is Aries and I full identify with its essence. I am stamped through and through with Arien traits and I am familiar with them. Knowing them helps me identify better with the aspect of the Divine Masc that I embody this time around. And one need only see me in person to know why I chose the handle one ruled by Mars..even my Ascendants ruler Mercury stays his distance to my Arien traits.

I forgot to mention why I quoted the prayer as well...Consider this...read it back to yourself in 1st person...insert your name where it says "Great and Living ........" and it is read as if your Ego is reading it as a mantra to your Souls essence everyday as a reminder of why and for who he has come into existence. Or it could be a prayer to our higher selves however it resonates with us I think you get the idea.

""Great and living .........., ordaining life, vigorously alive, our father.

How empowering this is...and it helps us to see how we should feel if our Divine Masculine Energy is shining down fully through our Solar essence without judgement from out Ego.

I will keep it in mind as I read it, Lioness.
It seems like you would still have the same journey to mine your Leo sun.
The moon is a whole different realm in that it is the deep, instinctual, feeling nature: your deep gut responses(I think I am right in this lol)
Your deep nature would be Leo too, but the Leo would be expressed in a whole different sphere .

Well, being a Cancer sun...my moon is automatically connected to my Sun anyways (being its dispositor). However, many of you may not believe this, but I feel lost without my FEELINGS...no matter how crippling they become. I remember for a week following the solar eclipse, I felt lighter than I had ever been all year...but completely flat. I really do have to feel in order to be alive, but I think I need to feel emotionally secure in order not to drown too. O__o

I am a Taurus Sun, and yes, it does manifest in my life a lot. I enjoy being a Taurus very much and I cannot imagine my life not being a Taurus. I am very earth, very sensual, I need my "rest"......I need my sweets, I need my good yummy food to keep my belly full....I need to be surrounded by animals.....I need to smell roses and other delightful scents....I need to hear music....as well as the sound of rain, waterfalls, wind through trees......I need to have dirt and grass under my feet opposed to concrete........I need tangibility, consistancy and dependability. I don't like change too much.

I am also a triple Aries! Asc, Moon and Merc in Aries.....I am trying to learn not to "react" SO QUICKLY......I am trying to learn "patience" which is so difficult for me....and not rush all the time and "be first in line"...well, having Mars, Uranus and Pluto tightly conjoined in VIRGO sure doesn't help with the patience.........

----------> THIS IS TOTALLY ME!!!!!! I am sooooooo Virgo!

So YES I am my Sun Sign, and more.

I have read that as we are young, growing up, we are more our Rising sign......as we get mature and get older (into and past our 30's) then we are our Sun sign. As I reflect upon my life, this holds true for me.

I think I know what you mean, BM. I have Mars in Pisces ruling my Sun, and squaring my Gemini Moon, though. (Pluto also trines my Moon, which sits in the eighth - a lot of water energy there.)

Dear Nep,
You seem to love and appreciate your Sun sign. You seem to have a healthy lust--in the best sense of the word-- lol-- for life as your Sun sign experiences it.

If you can live in your Sun sign, I think you will be strong.
If you can know who you are--you can figure out paths out of bad places.
If you accept who you are--you can separate the good from the bad .
You can try to live the good but accept the bad.
I rejected the bad and with it myself.
That was my loss of identity.

@ Ami.. Thank you yest that makes sense... I am a 4x Leo, but I guess so much leo, makes the other planets come out stronger. I'm more of an interverted Leo, but Lately after I left my husband I have been acting so much more like a leo... I think it was him... LOL.. His Saturn conjunct my asc, and I was in serious mood the entire marriage.... So maybe Im finally coming into my Leo hey look at me, look at me, look at me... hahahahh.. joking!

At Nephyths I know exactly where your coming from, My asc is at 0 Aries..
It's a huge part of me... Im just learning about patience, and having more control over myself.. And controlling my "first response" its been hard but rewarding at the same time..

My MC is a Cap.. so I've always been work work work... I started working at 15, and never stopped.. Kinda a workaholic.
But the only difference is I dont work for money per say I work for Independence.

My sun is Scorpio. That's what's beneath my smiling, friendly Aqua ascendant.

The one thing that really convinces me that my Scorpio is strong: last year, I had a husband and wife for clients in a legal case. They sat with me for an entire day for the husband's deposition (giving testimony), after I had prepped him in the morning. By the end of the day, we were talking astrology. I asked them to guess my Sun and ascendant. The husband said "Scorpio" and the wife said "Aquarius". I was floored!!!!

Apparently, during the morning prep, when I was talking strategy with this couple, the Scorpio was evident. The strategizing and the intensity. I'm pretty damn intense when I have a job to do or when I'm going after something I want.

The Scorpio also comes out full-blast when somebody (like the attorney for the opposing side) is harassing my client for no good reason. I go into attack mode, my voice gets loud without my wanting it to, and my comments are very cutting and leave no question as to how p**sed off I am.

I fit in with most of the textbook descriptions of a Scorpio woman. For example, my man needs to be emotionally very strong, otherwise I lose respect and the love dies.

I am a seeker, big time!!!! Most of my life, since the time I was a teenager, has been spent in the search for truth and meaning. Then again, there's my 8th house stellium to thank for that.

People I work with or know from school or from the neighborhood ... those who don't know about astrology ... would probably say I'm a bubble head, but friendly and kind. Bubble head because I laugh a lot, and very easily. I'm also a bit absent minded. That's the first impression. You have to either live with me, or get on my last nerve by being mean, arrogant or inconsiderate to get a taste of the Scorpio.

I still have yet to fully manifest my Solar energies. I am a Leo Sun, yet I act more like a quiet Sag. Hence having Sag. rising with Saturn in the 1st and Jupiter in Gemini in the 6th.

There is something that I've wanted to bring up before. The fact that the zodiac signs are not in par with the actual fixed stars that represent each sign. I'm a Leo Sun at 8 degrees Leo which is conjunct the fixed star - Praesepe, North Asellus and South Asellus, all of which are the body and the breast of the Crab - Cancer.

This statement really comforted me, considering my Sun is cojunct the "***** ."

quote:
These are the North and South Aselli, The ***** , representing the ***** ridden by Vulcan and Bacchus whose braying terrified the Titans. Praesepe is sometimes depicted as their manger. Robson states that the ***** can show a charitable nature and caring responsibility, but with a danger of violent death, serious accidents and burns. Lilly noted a great danger of accidents, burns, violent death, afflicted eyesight and lawsuits when the Sun was directed to these stars.[2]

The book has an example of an analysis of a Gemini sun which is my Sun.
It says that you MUST express your inner self to feel robust and happy in life.
When I was secure in life--I did express my inner self .
Whatever unique qualities I have--I feel depressed if I do not feel I can express them .
When I feel my true self shines through and I do not push it down , I am happy.
I felt badly cuz I made a joke and hurt someone's feelings the other day.
I apologized and the person was very gracious but when you follow your inner core ,you will make mistakes.
Saturn in the first house is a hard taskmaster when you make mistakes.
Saturn is Capricorn like in that it wants you to do it perfectly and right.
My NN is in Sag and Sag is much of what I aspire to be--bold, honest, say what is on your mind/heart etc.
The NN is in the second house--Taurus' house.
The material world scares me--navigating in it. The second house is where you must operate with the practical ,material elements of life--including self esteem which is as necessary for life as tangible, material things are, I think.

For the most part I enjoy being an aquarius, and it does manifest in my life more often than my asc or moon. But it does get a tad bit annoying when I can't be more observant, I'm so accident prone.. I beat myself up into walls, doors, counters, trip over things. To my friends it's slapstick comedy, especially when I slam into something again soon after doing it the first time. I wouldn't make a good witness, coz I wouldn't be able to remember the color of the car, describe the criminal and so on... very poor memories for such things. It was interesting to read Linda Goodman's description of aquarians in sun signs n love signs, I can't recall anything that didn't describe me.. there was a lot of nodding while reading because most, if not all, validated what it's like to be born under this sign. So I'm not as kooky as ppl seem to think, or maybe I am, but that's ok. At this point I enjoy being an aquarian. It was interesting when through my scorpio friend, I was around a lot of aquarians. There were some individual differences, sure, but in a lot of ways we were alike in how we're wired under this sign. It was nice hanging with them, especially when our scorpio friend would go off on her tangent about how all of us are so detached, why don't we feel deep emotions, how can we not know what we're feeling, do we feeeeeel anything at all.. kind of a weird tangent when she knows about aquarians. What can ya do or say? shrug.. for the most part, passion/strong deep emotion is not our forte'. And couldn't understand why she felt so passionately about everything or why it was so important to her. How we all responded was pretty much similar.
