Transiting transneptunian dwarf planet candidate Sedna went stationary retrograde today in 22'30 Taurus.

That's currently in my 9th house opposing my Venus in 21'47 Scorpio and Geocentric South Venus Node in 22'32 Scorpio in 3rd

What is it doing to your chart?

it moves very slowly, right? so it will not be going very far while retrograding? in fact it has progressed only 29 degrees since my natal chart position.

it is 4 deg shy of my IC, and 7 ahead of my KARMA asteroid...so heading for the midpoint of those two, while opposing some other interesting asteroids but also applying to square my sun (17 leo) pluto conjunction in the 7th. not too exact except for the guinevere opposition really. and since it IS slow, that probably makes a huge diff.

any ideas on interpretation glaucus?

Yes, at the intermediate level, the energy represented by Sedna does involve letting go the density of victimization and taking a journey to the light. But, where Rudhyar correctly observes in the inner and outer planets that the decision to set off on the journey is free choice, in the case of Sedna, no free choice exists. Now pause for a moment and let this one sink in. Sedna is in a new category of planet, and the rules are a little different. There is no free choice. Let’s look at the myth. Sedna had no choice but to die. She was betrayed and killed by her father. But she became an immortal, the goddess of the ocean.

At the intermediate level, Sedna represents the energy which forces us, whether we wish it or not, to let go of our mortality and accept our immortality. Please understand this does not mean anyone is going to die. This is an emotional and psychic reference point. It is a state of consciousness. Are we merely a mortal who will die and disappear after a few years? Or are we an immortal soul, who just happens to be having a temporary adventure in the material plane? Sedna at the intermediate level represents that life experience which forces us to answer no to the first question and yes to the second question.

Sedna's orbit is over 11,000 years. Therefore, it's ultra-slow because of its highly eccentric orbit.
It went retrograde at 22'33 Taurus today on August 23, 2010.
It will go direct at 21'29 Taurus on February 3, 2011.

The longer the orbital period and slower the object, the narrower the orbs that I use for transits.

I only use a 30 minute orb for Sedna transits. That's just the conjunction, opposition, trine, and square. I use smaller orbs for sextile. I don't put much emphasis on the minor 8th and 12th harmonic aspects unless they are near to exactness.

In regards to what Sedna means

It's a transneptunian dwarf planet candidate, and so it involves evolutionary intensified lessons and experiences and high degree of metaphysical orientation and nonconformity, especially when you consider that it has the greatest average distance of all and has an extremely elliptical orbit.

It is named after the Inuit Sea/Underworld Goddess because at the time of discovery, it was the coldest object discovered. That fit with the goddess that resided at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. As a sea goddess, she has affinity with Neptune. As an underworld goddess, she has affinity with Pluto.
Sedna was a girl that was thrown overboard by her father. She clinged onto the boat. Her father chopped off her fingers, and she sank to the bottom of the Arctic Oceans. Her fingers turned into sea animals. She transformed into a sea goddess and ruled the Underworld located at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean called "Adlivun" She is said to supply people with sea animals to eat. If she's angered, she won't feed the people.
Sedna can be associated with high degree of compassion, concern for the environment, higher awareness/consciousness as well as victimization, abuse, betrayal. It can be about being "far out" , the bizarre, and "out of this word"

Philip Sedgwick wrote the following keywords for Sedna:

Positive - a forgiving disposition, discernment, clarity of perception, recognition of free will and choice, responsible, conscious of consequence, far thinking, dharma-oriented, does the homework of life

Negative - victimization, abuse, being deceived, history of betrayal, bitterness, “gold digging” attitude in relationship, transfers blame to others, numbs out, goes unconscious

Mundane - blubber, products made from sea mammals, whaling, diving bells that go into the dark of the sea, emotional healing, forgiveness, sorrow, engagement, masks, flight of the birds

Ceremonial - cleansing in the sea, propitiation to the sea, sea creatures, use of sea creature talismans (walrus tusk carvings, scrimshaw), ceremony with masks of sea creatures, ceremonial masks in general http://www.philipsedgwick.com/

Here are keywords for Sedna from Zane Stein's site:

Here are articles on Sedna:

Nick Anthony Fiorenza http://www.lunarplanner.com/asteroids-dwarfplanets/Sedna.html

Barbara Schermer's article http://astrologyalive.com/TMA409Sedna.pdf

I love the articles by Alison Chester-Lambert who gave me her new book, THE FUTURE IN THE STARS The Astrological Message For 2012 and beyond. It includes a lot of information about Ceres, Pluto-Charon binary system, Makemake, Haumea, Eris, and Sedna. She liked what I wrote about her.
I really like her stuff. She understands the need for a 21st Century Astrology to explain things going on right now in the 21st Century.

BTW...I am very strong in these objects, and so I study and learn about these objects. The discoveries of these objects corresponded with understanding myself and my path.
It's not some Virgo thing. Many people study about certain things to help them understand themselves. Look at how many people with psychiatric disorders problems study psychology and psychiatry to understand about their psychiatric disorders. Look at how many people get involved in metaphysical subjects to help them understand their metaphysical orientation. I do that with neurodivergence because I am a neurodivergent. I do that with Black History because I am part Black. I do that with European History because I am part European.
I am a very curious, inquisitive person (I used to get in trouble a lot for getting into things that I wasn't supposed too) that likes to research, investigate, and get to the bottom of things. I also want to progress and change with the times which I feel that I should do as an astrologer, and so I yearn for a 21st Century Astrology. I hope one day that Astrological community and Astronomical community finally bridge the gap between them.

You're welcome. Sedna is no joke. I have a lot of Sedna activity going on. I have Sedna square Midheaven in my Solar Return. Solar Arc Sedna is conjunct my Midheaven. Transiting Saturn is in a yod with my Moon sextile Sedna, opposing my Moon/Sedna midpoint. Transiting Pluto is in a minor grand trine with my Moon sextile Sedna, squaring my Moon/Sedna midpoint.

I recommend the book. I love it. It's definitely my favorite Astrology book now.

I wrote this article over a year ago.

It's on asteroids. It's about figuring out keywords based on astrological aspects in Sedna's Discovery chart.

I thought there was a metaphysical quality about Sedna with it being an object that orbits well beyond the planet of physical boundaries,Saturn but is also transneptunian.

with it connected to mythology of the Inuit seagoddess, it seems Neptune-like in its characteristics

but with it being in the most distant regions in the solar system like Inuit Seagoddess in the far depths of the Arctic Ocean, there seems to be an "out of this world" and remote quality about Sedna.

I believe that Sedna could be good for insight, spirituality, compassion, and positive types of self sacrifice, but the negative manifestations of Sedna can be extreme hypersensitivity, "too out there" in a spacy way, being remote as in being a loner,as well as being a victim as well as being a martyr. I believe that Sedna is more about otherwordliness than Neptune.

I checked out the asteroids in the Sedna Discovery Chart to attempt to find clues on the energy of the object

In Neptune's Discovery chart

September 23, 1846
Berlin Observatory, Germany
using noon time

Sedna in 26'13 Pisces
oppose Mars in 25'40 Virgo
semisextile Neptune in 25'53 Aquarius
semisextile Pluto in 25'23 Aries
(Mars oppose Sedna seems to indicate energy, activity involving Sedna....Sedna is in Neptune's rulership sign, Pisces....Sedna is conjunct the Neptune/Pluto midpoint.....also Neptune was in the same sign,Aquarius during its discovery and when Sedna was discovered...this seems to point to Sedna being connected to Neptune...also Sedna's South Node is in Aquarius)

Roy MacKinnon, who has a close Sun-Sedna conjunction himself, wrote this about Sedna:

"If there is a phrase which really means something to me about Sedna it is
NOT OF THIS WORLD. To me it has a most specific spiritual influence. You
only have to think of Sedna's extraordinary orbit to realise that it wants
to take you away from this world right to the very limits of the solar
system. Exactly what the spiritual nature is, is something which is
dictated by the planets aspecting Sedna. Adverse aspects may be connected
to temptations to deviate from the path of a spiritual destiny to that of
a more mundane, maybe even monetary one, where satisfactions are obtained
in this life and not banked karmically."

"I think it is because self-interest is denied by Sedna that it mistakenly
becomes associated with sacrifice. In truth Sedna doesn't deny the real
self - only the mundane temporal self. In truth Sedna feeds the eternal
self, that part of the very core of our being which aspires to holiness.
It seems to me it is precisely because of this strong non-temporal
influence that Sedna can be seen associated with events NOT OF THIS TIME
or for that matter NOT OF THIS CIVILIZATION. Sometimes I see it active in
death charts. In such cases it is signifying that the departed soul is NO
LONGER OF THIS WORLD."

"Whatever it is that fuels the Sedna quality in someone it is usually
unseen yet essential. Sedna works in the inky blackness unseen by the
mundane world very often - it is not of the personality, it is of the
essence, of the spirit. It is the fuel of the Refiner's Fire. It can be
the signature of unending love from a family member to the self or of a
lover but beware the love of the lover that it is not a delusion suffering
from mistaken identity. It seems to me to be more like the signature of
the right hemisphere of the brain, intuitve, non-logical, non-linear
rather than the strict logic of limited mathematical proof which,
appropriate in its own right hemisphere domain, is very limited in the
deep and darkness."

"Whatever carries this flavour, bears this subtle and almost intangible
quality, exhibits this subtle nuance, is of the world of Sedna, difficult
to perceive, just as difficult to describe but the characteristic flavour
is unmistakeably unique."

I already thought there was a metaphysical quality about Sedna with it being an object that orbits well beyond the planet of physical boundaries,Saturn but is also transneptunian.

with it connected to mythology of the Inuit seagoddess, it seems Neptune-like in its characteristics
but with it being in the most distant regions in the solar system like Inuit Seagoddess in the far depths of the Arctic Ocean, there seems to be an "out of this world" and remote quality about Sedna.
