I have an Aries Sun - which is squared by my Moon in Capricorn, my Neptune in Capricorn and by a large orb my Mars in Capricorn.I also have a Cancer Ascendant which is square my sun - by sign *only*.
My entire chart is mainly water-earth.
The only real support for my Sun is a trine to Saturn in Sagittarius.
With all this said I see many many Aries traits in me. So I'm not sure why in your case - these aspects diminish the Aries influence so much.
I have many more negative aspects to my Sun - and I don't feel like the energy is diminished (not by much).
When I read LG's Sun signs I thought - Yup - That's mostly me. I do open my own doors, hail my own taxis, I enjoy my independence and I work in a male dominated area. Also - I like being the center of attention and have been doing drama since high school. There was something about Aries women not wanting to settle down. Again - this is correct - I genuinely LIKE being single.
There are many other things about me which are not written there and I would not go as far as to say that my Sun is 80% me.. but my Sun is present for sure.
I'll come back later and post more about the Sun-Neptune square. Maybe this is close in your chart and more significant than it is in mine.
