Hmm, maybe it is the presence of Uranus in squares to Venus as well as Sun?

I've experienced bad timing with someone in which the synastry has a few good quincunxes between personal planets, so I guess that bad timing between a couple can be related to planets being in incompatible signs (they can have different preferences, transits can affect them differently, etc.). But I guess that this is not the case.

Although they have incompatible ACs, and one's 8th house is kind of coinciding the other's MC, so maybe this shows that one might be thinking about relationship issues while the other career during transits to these houses?

Mercury is still Rx so I may mess this up so bad that I'll have to delete but here it goes anyway.

Transiting Saturn and the Progressed Moon stay approximately the same amount of time in a sign so if your Progressed Moon is in the sign or opposite the sign that Saturn is currently in you will have a Progressed Moon that "follows" or "leads" Saturn.

It would be a continuum of issues.

HD - At the end of the day only they can answer this.

What's bad timing to one person, may not be bad timing to another.

Do you know them well?
