He has Sun in the 8th conjunct Mercury(exact) in Libra.
He has Mars and Venus in Scorpio in the 9th.

I think he would be attracted to people with depth(8th house placements)
I think he would find Scorpio things beautiful.
This would be intensity and depth,again.
He has drive to pursue what he wants (Mars in Scorpio)

With a Sun combust Mercury,it is hard for him to get detachment of his ego from his mind.
IOW, If he is upset/has strong feelings about something, it is hard for him to stand back and evaluate it.
It is hard to communicate your feelings to someone with this cuz they take everything very personally.
