I read love in a time of cholera. For some reason, the ending wasn't that good to me. IP: Logged |

"Nineteen Eighty-Four (sometimes written 1984) is a 1949 dystopian novel by George Orwell about an oligarchical, collectivist society. Life in the Oceanian province of Airstrip One is a world of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, and incessant public mind control. The individual is always subordinated to the state, and it is in part this philosophy which allows the Party to manipulate and control humanity. In the Ministry of Truth (Minitrue, in Newspeak), protagonist Winston Smith is a civil servant responsible for perpetuating the Party's propaganda by revising historical records to render the Party omniscient and always correct, yet his meagre existence disillusions him to the point of seeking rebellion against Big Brother, eventually leading to his arrest, torture, and reconversion."It's extremely well written and got under my skin in a serious way for weeks after I read it, it's just so good. George Orwell was quite the visionary. In the book he's pretty much describing tube trains that travel at incredible speed to get to places that would be essentially high speed rails in todays jargon, flat screen interactive TVs, computers, he talks about how the 1950's were a period of general peace and the 1960's was a time filled with great revolutions.. God, I'd love for someone here to analyze his chart, or something! He also wrote the famous Animal Farm. IP: Logged |

i like fantasy, science fiction, it has to have a lot of action...if it has witches, werewolves, vampires and other sorts of creatures or incredible humans with lots of blood, fighting and very interesting characters then i'll definitely read...one of my favorite series growing up was the Alex Rider Adventures by Anthony Horowitz about a 14 year old MI6 agent..not to mention Encyclopedia Jones...on my book shelf at home is one of the Eragon books and plenty of Vampire booksif the story is too realistic, too romantic and too dramatic then no thanks, lol, i'll get bored with it quickly....it took me over a year to read this one book called Chikara which is a 3 part book following a japanese family over 4 generations...while Twilight on the other hand i can read in less than 24 hours, no joke...oh and as a kid i used to read Aquamarine about 5 times ever night before bed ------------------ put your foot down once, not stomp it over and over IP: Logged |

1984 is very Saturn/Uranus.The City and The City by China Mielville might be intriguing. It's kind of like 1984 but more of a noir mystery thing. IP: Logged |

1984 is Saturn/Uranus to me too, also Brave New World by Huxley (great book!), and Kurt Vonnegut would be great reads for uranian people. On topic, not about unrequited love, but a tortured soul who tries to find his way out by, um, having random sex with people? Sexus, by Henry Miller.

I have read master&margarita 3 times, and each time i struggled to say which character is my favourite i have cat called behemot so,i think it speaks for itself russian and my mother tongue are from same language family, slavic,so translation is pretty much as original, which is soo important, because u can lose all the beauty of fabula, and it can be harder to see is author indeed bard First impression: damn, devil can be coool (was 16) IP: Logged |
