i don't understand the logic of ppl saying to use 12am if they don't know their/their partners time.

is there something that increases the accuracy or
is it just something to standardize results (for whatever weird reason you'd want to do that)

I use noon because then you get the midpoint of where the Moon could be on that day. Don't know why one would use midnight.

In the end it doesn't really matter because you SHOULD be ignoring houses if you don't have an accurate birth time.
