I am actually have been using Pythagorean Numerology in the way Hans Decoz uses.

He wrote the following: http://www.decoz.com/Calculations3.htm

Minor Expression Number

The Minor Expression number is based on the current (or short) name, the name you now use to introduce yourself including your last name.

The influence of the short name is minor in comparison to your full name. Interestingly, the short name often compensates in some way for numbers (and their related characteristics) that are missing or out of balance in the full name.

For instance, a number missing in the full name may show up prominently in the short name; or a number (or numbers) that appears in excess in the full name can be compensated for in the short name. If a name change takes place later in life through marriage or for professional reasons, it adds or subtracts certain qualities. It can also focus and intensify existing characteristics or talents that may be latent.

As a rule, I recommend that you don't change your name on impulse. Marriage, of course, does not leave much room for choice, although more and more women are hyphenating their names or staying with their maiden names. However, if you must change your name (for professional reasons, for example), try to choose a name already in your family, and thus connected to you through your ancestors. Those characteristics are already present in your lineage, which makes the new name easier to assimilate into your personality.

In answer to some commonly asked questions when it comes to short names:

* The short name is the name you feel closest to in relaxed and social settings.
* The short name is the name you would use when thinking about yourself, including your last name.
* When figuring out the Minor Expression number, never use the middle initial, unless you introduce yourself with that initial, such as: "Hi, I'm Tom J. Hancock."
* Names you have used in the past reveal inner feelings and characteristics that were prominent during that period in your life. If you are no longer using that name, it bears no resemblance to your current identity.

To find your Minor Expression number, use the same formula used to find the Expression number, but apply this formula to the name you now use to introduce yourself, including your last name.
Minor Heart's Desire Number

The Minor Heart's Desire number is derived from the vowels of your short name. The short name is a refinement of the more complex qualities of your longer name (the full name at birth). It sharpens and bundles the energies that are reflected by your full name. It intensifies certain aspects of your being, and de-emphasizes others. For this reason, the short name often provides insight into what you truly want in life. It also often reveals the extent of your understanding of what you want from this life. It reveals both your strong desires, and the limits you place upon your potential.

To find your Minor Heart's Desire number, add the sum total of the vowels of your short or current name in the same manner as that described under Heart's Desire.
Minor Personality Number

The Minor Personality number is based on the consonants of your short or current name, and it gives additional information about how you present yourself to the outer world. This number reveals in particular those aspects of your personality that your are, or have become, most comfortable with.

A name change that occurs later in life, such as through marriage or for professional reasons, can have a significant impact on your approach and your attitude in dealing with others, and this is reflected in your Minor Personality number. For this reason, name changes should be considered carefully, perhaps with the guidance of a numerologist. With a marriage, for instance, a hyphenated name is suggested, to add traits without changing your attitude entirely.

This is how changing my last name, Andrews to Scott would effect me in regards to Pythagorean Numerology:

Minor Expression Number of my used name, RAYMOND ANDREWS = 12/3 which is same as my personality number from the consonants in my birthname, RAYMOND NOLAN ANDREWS, and my lifepath from 10/29/1971 is 21/3
Therefore my present minor expression number has the same single number 3 vibration as my personality number and lifepath. That's a lot of 3 energy!
21 It is similar to 12, but much more intuitive. It tends to procrastinate.
12 It is highly creative, individualistic, and unconventional. It represents the interests of the self versus those of the group.

3 Minor Expression
You are optimistic, inspiring, outgoing, and expressive. People see you as cheerful, positive and charming; your personality has a certain bounce and verve that so powerfully affects others that you can inspire people without effort. All of this upward energy is a symptom of your tremendous creativity. Your verbal skills may well lead you into the fields of writing, comedy, theater, and music.

Yours is the number of self-expression - rich in imagination and spirit. But you have to be careful not to scatter your talents. Your bane is that you often lack discipline and order in your life. Avoid becoming a "happy- go-lucky" spendthrift, escaping responsibility and commitment. You must learn to concentrate and focus. These are the keys to your success. You have great potential in the arts and areas that requires creative solutions to problems. You are able to perform leaps of imagination, providing unconventional ideas as if they suddenly descended from above. Hard work and focus, however, are the foundation for a successful future.

Though you possess great verbal skills, your mind tends to see life as pictures rather than in words. Yet, you have the ability to think abstractly. Creativity is a sensitive faculty that is often suppressed in childhood. If you lack the confidence to pursue your ideas, you may divert your abilities into a scattering of trivial pursuits. To overcome this problem, you must make a choice. You have to limit your field of vision and the number of activities you engage in, and bundle your energies into a single thrust. Focus your life; choose the area that you love the most, and commit. There, you will find success. And a great deal of happiness.

Love, romance, and money are within your reach. You are aided by your friends and admirers. Often people appear out of nowhere to help you in key situations. You have to learn to accept the involvement of others in your life. You are not a loner, nor are you particularly independent. You are social - you need an audience and the support of others to fully realize your abilities.

On the down-side, you can be superficial, moody, and intolerant. You are emotional and sensitive, sometimes presuming criticism where none was intended. You can also be jealous and gossipy. Beware of becoming cynical and sarcastic. These traits can suppress your natural creativity. Be goal-oriented. This is a practical, step-by-step approach to your larger ambitions. You possess the natural abilities to attain a high degree of excellence.

Minor Expression Number of RAYMOND SCOTT = 14/5 which is same as my expression number from my birthname,RAYMOND NOLAN ANDREWS
14 A wild streak. Need for change and adventure can destroy carefully planned progress. Lack of focus and commitment. This Karmic Debt number can get you in trouble. Guard against self-indulgence.

The 14 Karmic Debt arises from previous lifetimes during which human freedom has been abused. Those with a 14 Karmic Debt are forced to adapt to ever-changing circumstances and unexpected occurrences. There is an acute danger of falling victim to abuse of drugs, alcohol, and overindulgence in sensual pleasures, such as food and sex. You must put the reins on yourself. Modesty in all affairs is crucial to overcoming this Karmic Debt.

Also important is the need to maintain order in life, and to establish one's own emotional stability. you must also be willing to adapt to the unexpected occurrences of life, all the while maintaining your focus on your goals and dreams. Flexibility and adaptability are at the very core of this struggle.
Orderliness in one's immediate environment is crucial to maintaining clarity and focus. Mental and emotional stability must be attained in order to avoid being thrown about by the changing fortunes in the external environment.

But the key to the 14 Karmic Debt is commitment. Life will resemble a roller coaster ride, but it will always travel in the right direction if one's heart is set on what is true and good. Set yourself a high goal, maintain order wherever possible in your life, avoid excessive sensory indulgence, and maintain faith. Above all, do not give up on your dreams and goals.
Those with the 14 Karmic Debt will experience life to the fullest, and as long as they maintain a high dream, they will achieve success and great spiritual development.

5 Minor Expression
You are a free spirit. You love change, adventure, and excitement. You love your freedom. Like a bird that needs its wings to live, you cannot exist without it. Freedom is the nucleus around which your life revolves. You need it for your very survival. By using freedom properly, you are able to explore and develop all of your varied talents. You will meet many types of people and travel great distances. Freedom is the atmosphere necessary for you to bring forth your many talents. You are capable of doing almost anything, and probably quite well. Only by avoiding the imprisonment of illusory security are you able to bring forth your abilities.

You are unusually adaptable. In fact, change is a blessing for you. In the same way, you need challenge and variety. You hate the routine of life; being stuck is a catastrophe for you. You become miserable when you are held back or held down. The taste and texture and color of life has an overpowering allure for you. From childhood, you dream of seeing foreign lands, experiencing the sensual and the exotic. You want to try everything at least once in life. All of life is a playground for your senses. But this can get you into trouble. You may fail to respect your natural limits, either biologically or socially. Any sort of boundary is anathema to you, which can blind you to your natural limits, and may cause you to overindulge your desire for food, sweets, alcohol, sex, and drugs. You are gifted in your ability to communicate. Your facility with words is almost limitless. You can be a salesman, politician, lawyer, public relations person, and minister. You also possess the talent to share and advance new ideas. You are talented with your hands. You love the new and untried. Your field is the frontier. You are a bit of a gambler, and often play for very high stakes. All of this combines to give you a youthful enthusiasm, which others find infectious and attractive. You like to work with others, but need to perform your task un-encumbered by the restraints of others.

You are a clever and a quick thinker, but your thought processes - like your life in general - can be unorganized and scattered. You must stay grounded and focused if you want to be successful. You fall in and out of love frequently, especially early in life. You are naturally sensual and commonly have a strong sex drive. These characteristics usually make for a lively and exciting love life, but you must guard against shallow feelings and relationships. Your challenge is to develop mature and lasting relationships.

Self-discipline and setting healthy limits is the key to your success in virtually every area of your life. Ironically, you will find that as you learn to set appropriate limits on yourself, you will develop more self- mastery and realize even greater freedom. This is especially true when it comes to finishing what you start. Your tendency is to give up once you've got a project or job under control; you grow bored quickly. You start to fantasize about a new challenge, or the rewards of your great accomplishment, long before the work is finished. The 5 Expression desires the whole world. You are aware that you have many talents that can bring much success. But that success depends on your willingness to choose certain areas to concentrate on, and to bring them to perfection.

Minor Heart's Desire of RAYMOND ANDREWS = 13/4
Minor Heart's Desire of RAYMOND SCOTT = 13/4
They are the same!
13 is my mother's birthday number,and it has a 4 vibration
13 Hard work and slow progress, this Karmic Debt number is difficult but rewarding when enough effort is applied. Grounded and down-to-earth. Reliable, trustworthy, but sometimes rigid and
lacking a sense of humor.

Those with the 13 Karmic Debt will work very hard to accomplish any task. Obstacles stand in their way, and must be overcome time and again. One may often feel burdened and frustrated by the seeming futility of one's efforts there may be a desire to surrender to the difficulties and simply give up on the goal, believing it was impossible to attain in the first place. Some with the 13 Karmic Debt fall to laziness and negativity. But efforts are not futile, and success is well within reach. One simply must work hard, and persevere in order to reach the goal. Many highly successful people in all walks of life, including business, art, and athletics, have a 13 Karmic Debt.

The key to succeeding wit the 13 is focus. Very often, people with the 13 Karmic Debt do not concentrate or direct their energies in one specific direction, or on a single task, but scatter their energies over many projects and jobs, none of which amount to very much. A temptation wit the 13 is to take shortcuts for quick success. Too often, that easy success doesn't come, causing regret and the desire to give up. The result is a poor self-image, and the belief that one is incapable of amounting to very much.

In order to focus, you must maintain order in your life. Order is essential to success. You must maintain a schedule, keep appointments, and follow through. Keep your environment neat and under control, and never procrastinate. If you sustain a steady and consistent effort, you will realize much reward.

4 Minor Heart's Desire
You like to live a stable, well organized life. You dislike sudden changes. You prefer orderliness in all things. You have a systematic mind that is reflected in everything you do. You can establish and maintain a routine. You are exacting with details and quite thorough. You like to carefully analyze a problem and then tackle it in a logical and practical approach. You want to be dependable, a rock of strength and an example of discipline for others.

Work is central to your life, but you may have a tendency to overdo it; you can easily become a workaholic if you're not careful. You have a great deal of energy and can accomplish a lot. You want a family and you are a good parent. You may carry the discipline and the need for orderliness too far, especially in your family, making children and spouse feel oppressed and limited. Flexibility is your key to harmony and balance in life. For you, structure is more important than freedom, which you tend to interpret as chaos. But others do not have your need for well defined systems, in fact, they may feel deeply inhibited and uncomfortable with it. The peace you get from orderliness may represent a prison to someone else.

You need and want much love, but you are not very demonstrative. You can be a little rigid and stubborn. You are honest and unpretentious. You detest liars and affectations. You can be very determined and tenacious. You are the bedrock of any enterprise. You have the courage to go into the nitty gritty of a problem and come up with a solution. Try not to lose sight of the larger picture and dream while you plumb the depths of the bottom line.

Minor Personality of RAYMOND ANDREWS = 17/8
8 is my Maturity number which is the combination of the Lifepath number and Expression Number.
17 It is spiritual growth, faith, and balance. It is also wealth or bankruptcy. It is an inner struggle to remain true to spiritual and moral values.

8 Minor Personality
You appear strong and powerful. You have an impressive personality and can influence and even intimidate through sheer force. You have natural authority. Your competence and enthusiasm attract people with resources. You radiate confidence. People defer to you because they sense your sureness and effectiveness. You also exude a kind of controlled benevolence. People sense that you are generous, once you are convinced of the worthiness of the cause.

It is important for you to dress well. You radiate a kind of raw power and able ness, which needs to be refined and enhanced by your clothing. You may even dress a bit flashy, but that will not harm you. Quality is among your highest priorities, and should reflect in your clothing. Although most eights have a strong constitution, they can be prone to indigestion, ulcers, and heart disease due to their reckless eating and drinking habits and their propensity to be workaholics. Your Achilles heel is your capacity for an egocentric attitude. The negative side of your personality can cause you to be ruthless, greedy, and intensely lonely.

Conversely, you can be spontaneous and excited. You are essentially warm and jovial. In your heart of hearts, you want everyone to be as excited and as happy as you. Those who are around you often sense this. Your coworkers and employees usually like you.

Minor Personality of RAYMOND SCOTT = 19/1
19 Strong and individualistic. Self-reliant and confident, this Karmic Debt number can bring loneliness and alienation. Leadership. Sometimes bullish.

The person with the 19 Karmic Debt will learn independence and the proper use of power. You will be forced to stand up for yourself, and often be left to stand alone. Difficulties will be faced and overcome through personal struggle.

One of the central lessons for people with the 19 Karmic Debt is that you stubbornly resist help. Much of your independence is self-imposed; you simply don't want to listen to others, or to accept the help or advice of others.
The 19 Karmic Debt can become a self imposed prison if you do not open up to the reality of interdependence, and the mutual need for love.

The most important lesson for the 19 Karmic Debt is: While you seek to stand on your own feet, you are still a human being, deeply connected with others and in need of the support, assistance, and human understanding that all people need. Those with the 19 Karmic Debt will learn the hard way that "no man is an island," and that we are, indeed, "all bits of the main!"

1 Minor Personality
You radiate with a dynamic and efficient energy. You appear controlled and capable. You value courage and effort in the face of difficulties and these qualities show. Others can sense that you will not be pushed around. You should dress in a dignified and correct manner, caring for the details of your appearance. While you may spend most of your time in staid business dress or suits, bright and cheerful colors work well for you. You are fashionable, but have your own style.

Your appearance suffers more than most people when you are overweight. Overweight directly contradicts the type of personality you are trying to project. Straight lines and square corners accent your good physique and enhances your appearance as a leader.

You are recognized as a pioneer; you have your own ideas of how to do things. You are a risk taker, original and highly creative. You should be wary of appearing too aggressive or unreceptive. You can intimidate people if you don't soften your exterior somewhat. By doing this, you will attract less confident people who will be more willing to approach you with their thoughts and suggestions.

"However, if you must change your name (for professional reasons, for example), try to choose a name already in your family, and thus connected to you through your ancestors. Those characteristics are already present in your lineage, which makes the new name easier to assimilate into your personality."

That's exactly what I will be doing. I am just going to change the last name which is my mother's maiden name to my father's last name. Therefore, I will still have a name already in my famly and thus connected to my ancestors. Those characteristics are already present in my lineage, and so it will make the new name easier to assimilate in my personality.

This definitely shows in the numbers.

Raymond Andrews

Raymond Andrews (June 6, 1934-November 25, 1991) was an African American novelist.
Raymond Andrews was born June 6, 1934 in Plainview, Georgia and grew up in north central Georgia. Andrews' parents, George and Viola Andrews, were sharecroppers and he was the fourth of their ten children. At age fifteen Andrews moved away to Atlanta, Georgia where he began working and attending high school at Booker T. Washington High School. [1] Andrews graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Following his graduation, he served four years in the United States Air Force.

Andrews died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Athens, Georgia on November 25, 1991.[3]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Andrews

He was in the military like me. He was in the Air Force for 4 years, and I was in the Navy for 7 years.
He killed himself when I was in Radioman A School which was a training school that I went through to prepare for my job rating before I went to my first duty station.

Raymond Andrews got his last name from his father unlike my getting my last name from my mother.

Raymond Scott (born Harry Warnow, 10 September 1908 — 8 February 1994),[1] was an American composer, band leader, pianist, engineer, recording studio maverick, and electronic instrument inventor. He was born in Brooklyn to a family of Russian-Jewish immigrants.

A 1931 graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied piano, theory and composition, Scott, under his birth name, began his professional career as a pianist for the CBS Radio house band. His older (by eight years) brother Mark conducted the orchestra. Harry reportedly adopted the pseudonym "Raymond Scott" to spare his brother charges of nepotism when the orchestra began performing the pianist's idiosyncratic compositions.

Raymond Scott is not even his birthname. He changed both his first and last name.

In Chaldean Numerology

HARRY WARNOW = 20
The Number 20

The Awakening

In addition to being called "The Awakening," this Compound number is
also pictured by the ancient Chaldeans as "The Judgement." It has a
peculiar interpretation, and is symbolised as "a winged angel, sounding
a trumpet, while from below, a man, woman, and child are seen arising
from a tomb, with their hands clasped in prayer." At some time in the
experience of the person or entity represented by the number 20, there is
a powerful awakening, bringing a new purpose, new plans, new ambitions -
the call to action for some great cause or ideal. There may be
occasional delays and obstacles to one's plans, but these may be
conquered through developing patience (the challenge of the number 20)
and by continually cultivating faith in one's own powers to transform.
20 brings the blessing of vivid precognitive dreams, plus the ability to
ability to manifest the happy ones, and cancel the negative ones. It is
not a material number, therefore is doubtful regarding financial
success. If large sums of money are necessary for practical support of
the new cause or ideal, then one may choose a more positive
materialistic number by changing the spelling of the name, assuming the
20 is the birth number. If the 20 is the name number, then, hopefully,
the birth number will bestow a more fortunate financial vibration.
However, those who are comfortable with their 20 vibration seldom care
about matters of finance. Money is not important to them - and the 20
will, as a general rule, provide enough for the basic necessities.
