So I have mars in the fourth house and I'm always somewhat annoyed and peeved by the simple descriptions of it.

I don't find myself very driven to make improvements to my home, or that my drive is only for home/family/security needs, and that my career is of little importance to me.

Somewhere online I found a description of the 4th house, as the deepest, most private place of the psyche. On another site someone talked about planets near the IC as being able to stand on their own, as it's the place of the deepest isolation.

It got me to thinking, perhaps this house isn't just about family and home, but our own deepest subconscious. Not the collective subconscious, but our personal one.

I was curious if anyone else had any thoughts about this. Do any of you have planets there, and how do you experience them?

Were there alcoholics in your home, growing up? Anyway, typically the interp is that they aren't fond of h4 matters and are not likely to harbor a desire to start a family. Maybe they'll be involved in a family type role with nieces or nephews but for them it's like they have bigger fish to fry.

But I agree, if you strip everything back about a person, who they are at the core is interpreted as the IC, and planets conj will give you more of a story there, if no planet there then look to the IC ruler. It's what you return to that gives you security and like a well that never runs dry. It's also said to point to end of life circumstances, again the place we revisit.

I have Mars in Aries in the 3rd conjunct the IC, but I've always related more to natal Mars being in the 4th H. But having such an active Mars on the IC is challenging.

Lonake can you tell me more about Mars on the IC? Its weird too cause my boyfriend also has Mars conjunct the IC, but his Mars is in Gemini, and he has Aries Mercury.

I like this site for Angularity,
quote:
Mars/IC – Assiduous – You hold your feelings inside, keep a stiff upper lip, and cannot be diverted or deflected (heedless). You have good powers of concentration and the ability to bring all your energy to bear upon your project or object of the moment.

so then, out of curiosity, my 4th house is empty and there are no planets near my IC. Mars rules my 4th and is in cancer in my 7th... would i just not have a strong attachment to the idea of "home" or would it be intertwined with what's going on with mars in my 7th?

Thanks for the link, lonake! I like this bit about the IC:

quote:
The Nadir especially symbolizes going it alone. Planets conjunct this angle don’t wait for others, rely on others, or depend on others.

I have a hard time ever asking for help from others and tend to make bad decisions just on the sole purpose of doing something alone or not asking for help.

You can consider Mars your 'roving' h4 placement, not really in the 4th, but it's painting a picture of h4 affairs wherever it wanders (this counts for transits and progressions as well).
With the ruler of the 4th in the 7th, your security needs are tied up in others, Mars in Cancer especially wants to be the provider in some means and to make sure that those close do not leave, they have difficulties expressing anger but are quite steadfast. In the 7th you either project this energy to your partners and may feel their clinginess, you may want to bond on some level and then at the next moment feel smothered. And/or You may give others protection and a warm wing to nest under, and then feel somewhat taken advantage of in relationships when you're unable to directly express your desires. These all influence directly your security needs, the only thing you can work on is being direct as you can be about your desires and encouraging your partners to do the same. There's an added emphasis on the need to trust another and to have them trust you, without that there is caution and likely a potential for the partnership to not develop which would negatively influence the needs for stability.
Cardinal sign on Ic, ruled by a planet in a Cardinal sign, placed in a Cardinal house, so there will be plenty of opportunities to start again, to start over, if something seems damaged beyond repair it likely isn't, you're always going to want to get it to work and to make it right, to feel right and to make sense. If Mars is sq the Ic, then there's even more need to hold yourself and your partners accountable for desires and to encourage assertiveness, not aggression, and of course cooperating on a dynamic level since Mars is in the 7th.

I have Mars in 4th house.
Mars in 4th house is Instinctive. It bear genes from the male ancestor side - father (4th house). You'll find many of your behaviors (related to Mars - assertion, impulsiveness etc) learned very early in your childhood (Roots)and more often imitated or incorporated from the father.
I don't know if you
re male or female. Because, women are not so easily identified with Mars as man do.

Elijah how's this for funny:

I have a 4th house Mars in Aries.

My father has a 4th house Mars in Aries, only a few seconds off of my placement.

My mother has a 4th house Mars in Sag.
(brother has a 12th mars in sag.)

Family astrology is great fun.

I loved Lonake's link to angular mars
I also find direct self assertion is difficult with this placement.

4th House....I have moon in fourth. It is in Aries. I feel very restless and I keep searching for so called " home" ...I guess I associate home which is a peaceful place or even anything which would inspire me and do things to succeed.Sometimes I find home in my work.I believe it is definitely got to do much at deeper level.I would be living at home I might not "feel at home".

I would associate 4th house with fears and psyche as well.

I had sold of one of my apartment in which I hadn't stayed for one day but since it was bought by me I was attached. Although I have rented several apartments I wanted to do painting and redecorated it when I really felt as if something was going missing.

I am sure you would go through something like that, only once what you think is your security would be taken away.

Again this seems pretty true Lonake, you're in the know.

Are you a person with a lot of angular conj?

I wish mine were on the Asc/Mc sometimes but then again I'd hate the attn.
Now I realize I say that knowing mine are on Ic/Dsc, lol. Maybe if they were higher up I'd enjoy it (!) That's a good topic.

But those planets are opposite the MC, so that is something, huh?

@ Lonake

If you're asking me, then no not especially, I only have Venus and Pluto conjunct my IC / Nadir.

My Asc, Dsc, and MH are unaspected by any planets.
