Modalities are often ignored in astrology. But to overlook them, means your not taking in your chart. It helps to first calculate the modalities of each sign in your chart (cardinal, fixed, mutable), and then calculate which planets occupy which house (angular, sucadent, cadent. Then add them together... From this I figured out I'm mostly mutable and firey... IP: Logged |

I must admit that I do not look at modalities much in my natal, combined or otherwise. I find them useful for working out the individual personalities and qualities of each sign, and leave them at that. Kind of like the structure of how the signs are.IP: Logged |

strange enough i'm 1/3 split across all so it's ap ointless thing to consider in general for me...for other people i may consider it if it's extreme like all air and no fire and a little earth with no water something like that would be nice to examine but for me personaly, it's 1/3 across teh board for element and modality... I am the perfect specimen of balance. Do you want me to send you a finger print? IP: Logged |

when you look at signs through the eyes of modality/elemental combination gives a new insight to each sign. also, i think that each modality fits more harmoniously with a particular element. kind of like a planet being at home in a sign or more potent in a sign.i'm mostly cardinal and fixed. i definitely have some stick-to-it-ness that can't be matched! i calculated once, i'm 80% capricorn and scorpio! talk about never give up... yep. ------------------ my blog IP: Logged |

I've always used modalities, and I sometimes find them to be more accurate than elements, especially if you are like me and you are very heavy in one particular modality. Sign-wise I'm very very heavy in mutable, but house-wise I'm heavier in cardinal. Actually, I can often guess sun signs easier based on the combination of modality and elements. It's pretty easy for me to tell the difference between a fixed sign person and a mutable person simply by how easy going they are... However, there are those people who are more well-balanced amongst the modalities and they are a little harder to decipher. IP: Logged |

Yeah, sounds like you have the right idea Road. Cardinals usually seem to me like they are questing for something. They like to rally the troops, even if they can't make up their minds with what they want to actually do once they've rallied everyone. They usually go on very funny rants about various people and situations. Fixed signs are heavy, and SOOOO stubborn. Some of them literally have the feeling of a brick wall to me. You always know where they stand, and if you ever change their mind, you will know that you have accomplished a great feat. Unfortunately, because I have a fixed rising sign, I am equally stubborn and being mutable I love to mess with them. This isn't very nice, but they are darn fun to fight with and can keep me entertained for awhile before they even realize I'm playing devil's advocate. On the flip side, they are very good at keeping a straight face and riling me up too. My Aqua mother is a good example of this. Mutables have the attention span of a gnat usually. Too many things to catch with their active minds. Too many people to see. Too many places to go. Not great at staying in one spot. The mutable moons can be just as fidgety as the mutable suns, if not more so since their emotions tend to flit across their awareness. Then again... Most of the mutable moons I've known have been Gemini Moons. IP: Logged |

Would you include things like Lilith, True Node, AC and MC in the 'tally' of modalities?Like on Astro.com in the tally box, it does include them so there are actually 14 items to be divided between the triplicities and modalities. ------------------ Where possible, give people a piece of your heart, not a piece of your mind. Cool! If I tally things up this way... I get Earth and Cardinal. IP: Logged |
