I have a Capricorn sun and a Taurus moon, so supposedly I should be a materialist right? & yet I couldn't care less about being £££ rich or owning the latest 'brand X' must have products, in fact materialism and amassing lots of stuff bores me dreadfully. Where am I going wrong..? IP: Logged |

maybe? No but really, owning loads of stuff I see it as just a distraction, being somewaht wealthy is useful in that you can get better healthcare etc, but constant greed for more and more money..just why??? IP: Logged |

I have an earth moon, ASC, Jupiter and I could care less about being rich and I'm terrible with mundane stuff like bills and insurance and taxes but man, I have a terrible habit of resorting to retail therapy when I'm at a low ebb. And I am a little possessive about my *stuff*. ***And earth doesn't always = materialistic, btw. Maybe you have a strong affinity for nature? That's another possibility. Why don't you post the rest of your chart? The only thing I can remember about you is your Aqua ASC.

Yes Starfox I will look at house rulers. That will show areas of life which as important to you ------------------ Enlightenment doesn't result from sitting around visualizing images of light, but from integrating the darker aspects of the self into the conscious personality Jung You must lose your life for My sake in order to find it . 2nd house is possessions (the material kind). Perhaps you have 2nd house in Pisces which would make one not give a crap at all about material things.I can be materialistic. I have 2nd house in Cancer, Moon in Libra. Also Venus in the 10th. I like nice things. IP: Logged |

Mother Teresa was a Taurus moon.I have a taurus moon and four planets in capricorn including my 2nd house ruler (which is in the 5th) as well as venus and jupiter, and I hate materialism with an ardent passion. If I could chuck it all and live in a yurt in alaska with a few of the most ascetic basics I would. Modern society and especially American materialism drives me bonkers. We didn't incarnate to be greedy and pollute or judge others based on their having the new iphone. I mean wtf? My chart in case people really want to know or tell me why.. http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc457/xatnes/solrclnat.gif IP: Logged |

I have cap on the cusp of my 2nd house and venus in cap. I do love material things, but they are far from important to me. Although I am possessive of them, but I'm possessive of everything. Scorpio Moon :PIP: Logged |

Maybe you could interpret the capricorn description of 'materialistic' as meaning you fight hard to get what you want. In your case it may not be wealth but some other aspect of life you fight for.. I have mars in cap and I hate materialism too, although I do like nice cars.. hmmm... My North Node is Cancer which also indicates a possible affinity with capricorn too.. IP: Logged |

Really? That's quite strange for this placement. I have it myself. As far as I'm concerned money means a hell of a LOT in terms of its usefulness. Lack of money can lead to -- bad health, under-the-par living conditions, inability to help others in need (no actual power to make any changes or help anyone), inability to provide your family/future kids with a nice standard of living/good education and so forth, inability to travel & see the world -- and a number of other problems. Actually there are people starving to death daily due to lack of money. So it is really extremely important and can make the difference between survival and death. IP: Logged |

From what I've seen there aren't alot of Capricorns who are materialistic. I have met a few Taureans with materialistic tendencies but in my experience earth signs are very generous and don't really care that much about money. I feel that the descriptions for earth is too negative and for fire too positive. There may be some bias behind all that.

I have Taurus rising, moon in capricorn, sun, mars and merc in h2..and i like nice things but I'm in no way materialistic. I'm very disorganized with bills, when I choose a job the pay isn't the most important thing, and I go to shopping sprees whenever I get a chance. Also, I wish I was a bit more cheap because I can't save money if my life depended on it. edit: add to that a cancer sun..cancers are supposed to be good at saving right? lol IP: Logged |

I agree, its just the constant non stop money greed of some people that does appal, why would you want £Billions? you can never spend it all ??? IP: Logged |

I guess you could look at your ASC, and the sign the ASC ruler is in as to your general personality , in the same way you would look at Sun and Moon. Materialism is a second house thingy. Aries on second house can show you spend money on your appearance. IP: Logged |

Another Cap Sun / Taurus Moon here...I'm not really materialistic, I'm more scared of ending up penniless and living in complete poverty. I wouldn't handle being rich very well...I'm not a big spender, I enjoy saving money, keeping it for rainy days...Brands do not interest me... I don't think that every person with a lot of earth in their chart is materialistic. However, I do think that they know the true value of things.

I'll add to what chaos has saidI'm going to use capricorn in particular because something just occurred to me. In the tarot; the 4 of pentacles is also connected to the sun in capricorn. The interpretation of this card speaks of a reluctance to take a risk (with ambition/money) due to a fear of losing what one already has. It's staying in the job you hate because it provides a baseline income that provides for the basics. This could be considered materialistic even if one isn't striving to make millions. On the plus side, we get tradition that enables a feeling of stability from capricorn... IP: Logged |
