When we first became a couple, the relationship felt like fate for a whole lot of reasons (we met as children, kept "just missing each other" for two decades in various cities and countries, and then finally met up again and married). While I wouldn't quite call it "doom", the positive feeling of fatedness is gone after 10 years.

It's like the only point to being together is the kids, although I have to say that for some reason, things are a lot smoother when he isn't here, even though we aren't arguing! It's almost like we cancel each other out. I'd ask if he finds it the same but he gets defensive and hostile if I try to politely have the old "where do you see us going" conversation. So we don't talk about anything more inflammatory than, "Did you pick up the bread on the way home?"

Have we reached the end of our road? Was connecting and having children the whole point to there being an "us" at all?
