What are the mechanics of Astrology? How does it work? Is it science? Is it art? Or is it both? Does it work by gravity? If so, how can smaller bodies vast distances affect us? Is it electromagnetism? If so, what about the planetary bodies with no magnetic poles? I have my theories, which I shall give when I have more time. This is an argument-free zone, and there is room for all varied opinions on the topic, so no one be afraid to express your own. One thing we all pretty much agree on--it works. It's valid and validated...so, perhaps the why and how really doesn't matter...but I'm just curious as to what others think. IP: Logged |

For me it is very much an energetic science and an intuitive art.In my view, everything is one. Nothing is acting independently nor in isolation. The story if Indra's Pearls is a great way to look at things. Each individual thing is completely and totally reflecting the whole. And astrology is one of many tools that helps order things and put them in some type of perspective. The archetypes and symbolism of the planets is universal and if one can master them, they astrology becomes a truly helpful tool in navigating life. Now, synthesizing how it all works together is where the intuitive art part comes in. There is no science or book that can teach one how to understand how Sun conjunct Mercury square Jupiter in the 8th house actually looks withing the context of a chart and a persons life. We all want practical real life answers to questions, not just some astro mumbo jumbo that is esoteric and hard to understand. This is where science will fail. The human touch and ability to connect and help someone understand is a very much intangible thing. I definitely do believe that there is a type of electromagnetic element to how astrology works. I mean just astronomically, astronomers knew that there were planets beyond saturn based on their ability to measure the effect they outer planets were having on the orbit and gravitational pull of the inner planets. Astrology is a many splendid thing and keeps my Scorpio need to get to the bottom of things fully occupied with its mystery. ------------------ my blog IP: Logged |

I view astrology as a measure of time, like a clock. I don't really view it as energy, even though in some way energy will be involved. As opposed to time down here, this works as universal or 'space time' something which I don't understand but seems right. It's a language of the heavens, and if the heavens is time, then this is a translation of the time. Many universes (I don't even know simple astronomy) have a planet set up with an 'earth' in the centre with a few planets going round them, like we have. While you don't have to be born on earth to use astrology, it's the timing of our lives of earth. I see this as a language which uses mathmatics in order to translate. Not really science. Though I do have a personal vendetta against science for saying that astrology is bull. IP: Logged |

I think it is energy,Randall. It is the same energy Ki that is running through our bodies. The fact that acupuncture works and can EVEN be used as anesthesia in major surgery shows that the Ki is real, valid and can be scientifically provenIP: Logged |
