The 12 Mercury signs!
(But first of all post your own Mercury placement!)

I'll start.. My Mercury is Pisces..

Aries Mercury - Quite bad. The ones I know in RL seem offensive and sometimes cruel. They are not very good at interpreting the body language and behaviour of others. You could say they are psychologically naive.

Taurus Mercury - Neutral, but relatively non-existent.. Interestingly this is not because I don't know any people with Taurus Mercury. It is because we simply don't talk much. We can be silent around each other for long periods of time. I doubt it bothers either of us.

Gemini Mercury - Usually fun, but it can turn into long dragged out debates over things that are minor. We are similar in that we're both happy to stretch the truth when necessary and have no moral hold-backs about it.
Sometimes they get annoyed when I am in a quiet frame of mind.. or they get critical when I do something spaced-out like... stare at a cloud and forget which street I'm on.
But their criticism is so funny and lighthearted, so I don't mind.

Cancer Mercury - They are loving and kind. They are very appreciative of me exactly as I am and this is completely mutual.. I really don't even need to say much. Eye contact is more than enough to know that we 'get' each other. Sometimes, when the person is also a Cancer Sun - this squares my own Sun.. so there can be some tension. But I think the Mercury trine dilutes it.

Leo Mercury - A lot of my friends have this Mercury. We are not that similar in terms of communication, but for some reason it works! I'm thinking it could be because Leo Mercury likes to have an attentive audience and I am a good listener. I find them interesting and very laid back - very non-critical.

Virgo Mercury - Ouch.. My pet peeve. If we manage to be in the same room for longer than an hour and neither of us leaves slamming a door on the way out - it's either a miracle.. or *they* have some Pisces in their chart!

Libra Mercury - Not always pleasant.

Growing up I was close to my grandparents and they both happened to have a Libra Mercury. My grandpa also had Saturn in Pisces conjunct my Mercury (which is the most amazing aspect ever, ironically).. My grandmother had a lot of Scorpio happening. I'm guessing this is why we had such a good relationship.

But - since then I've met Libra Mercury people who are out of sync with me.
They seem to misunderstand me to an extent that becomes annoying. I get to a point where I cannot be bothered explaining myself ad nauseum.

I think the problem is that I instantaneously grasp emotion in a very quick Mercurial way.. I instantly feel things like vibes I get from others etc..
Libra Mercury people in my experience are generally oblivious to these emotional undercurrents. So it's really impossible for me to give them an explanation of things that they simply can't understand or "feel" for themselves. It would be like trying to give them a "how to" guide... "how to grow your own pisces mercury".. I'm pretty sure that's impossible.

Scorpio Mercury - This is such a smooth, easy connection that it really could not get any better in terms of communication. Talking to these people must be what heaven feels like. I feel like my watery thoughts and their watery thoughts become so closely intertwined that we simply know what the other is thinking. It's really sweet and romantic. I also feel protected by them - Scorpio Mercury is a 'tougher' Mercury, at least in the social arena.

Sagittarius Mercury - I find them wise, interesting and funny. I generally have good relationships with them. They either speak the same languages I speak or they at least have an interest. I've travelled a lot. Sometimes they have also, so we have this in common. Often they are from a different background to mine, and we are both curious about each other's culture.

Capricorn Mercury - I don't know many. My dad has it. I would say it's good overall but they sometimes try to work out what I am thinking and when they can't - they get frustrated.. and they also get offended if I can't or won't tell them. Being an earth Mercury - they are very focused on ideas they can trust and depend on - nothing too 'out there'.. so my Mercury can be shocking to them.

Aquarius Mercury - I don't think I've known any Aqua Mercury people. How strange lol
I'd imagine I'd get along well with them because my Mercury is square Uranus, so we might have things in common.

Pisces Mercury - Love them! We're basically the same person lol My best friend has it and we actually have our own language (which we made up a long time ago and still use to this day lol). it's completely secret How Piscean..

----

OK - Your Turn!

lol that like describes me with a pisces I know except she has merc aquarius pisces Sun. It bothers me when she won't tell me anything! Like she doesn't trust me I don't know.

That's true, they're really good at creating comfortable silences. (i don't know how else to say it)

I have scorpio mercury and I seem to best get along with cancer mercurys we can get so lost in a conversation and we can get to the bottom and totally understand and appreciate having one another in our lives My ex*friend had this we aren't friends for numerous reasons now but we would talk for hours and I would make her **** her pants we could also make eachother cry and start thinking really deeply on a primal level the same with my most important relationship the man is very leo altho he is a cancer with cancer mercury he is such a sweet soul to me under all of the uglieness and toughness we can't help but fall back in love, lust and utter comfort when I hear his voice when I look at him I hope he understands me totally without words cheesey right ? no but this isn't because it's real we go to hell and back and the communication will never die even when I think it has he fascinates me somehow he also has 3rd house in scorpio so maybe he likes to talk about 8th house topics and I have a stellium in the 8th ..My mother has mercury in cancer and altho we bicker we do talk a lot and we are too much a like but thats because of all the water and fire ...My grandmother is a libra with very strong opinions and a merc in scorpio she lectures people in a way that is unbelivible and would be conisdered insane outside of our family we would have great discussions on politics and medical stuff she was nurse in navy I mean she would tell me how to butter a biscuit! ...

i forgot to mention my mercury conjuncts venus so i can be very diplomatic. but it also opposes pluto. what a weird contradictory chart i have.

My Mercury is in Pisces in the 7th house, and I adore mercury in Libra! I absolutely like their witty, elegant and often humorous style! I have quite a few friends with this aspect, and its always nice to talk or listen to them.

In emotional matters though my favourite so far is Scorpio Mercury, cause they seem to understand my sometmes crazy emotional world. Pisces Mercury is great too, I wish to have more experiences with them.

Interestingly, my closest friend's Mercury in Gemini exactly squares mine yet we can always talk about everything for hours and we share soo much with each other! Our very different wordviews and communication styles somehow compliment each other very well.

My H12 Merc is in Virgo.
I communicate the best with Gemini(especially if it's square) and Scorpio Mercs. With Gem it'a magical, stimulating, engaging, witty conversations, like an addiction to me. With Scorpios,we go in depth, sarcasm, bit of critique bit of conspiracy theories we could converse for hours. Leo Mercs r treat for my Sun,we get on so well cuz we use many colourful metaphores, lots of joking, conversation is well tuned-observant and sharp ideas, but, overall, such a enjoyable experience. I also have nice time with CancerMerc, but,I do not talk much,I usually listen, cuz they always have sth that's bugging them, and they spend so much time to say it correctly,so I can get true picture. Sag and Aries Merc r also cool,I like when with Aries still turns out to be action, concise ideas and fantastically told jokes, with lots of gestures, and Sag is just awesome with their strong standings, multitude of interests and air of nonchalance; I didn't have any particular experiences with LibraMerc, that I can remember of right now, except that they find me very intelligent and pleasant(I'm Libra Asc) and that they can be hellishly detail-oriented and stubborn. Aquas r cool, too, but they appear to me as loners,I find conversation to be an adventure. I don't have much patience for Pisces,though... They drift away, need time to express themselves and somehow expect of me to *feel* what they r trying to say
With other VirgoMercs is always competition, and I don't know,at the moment, whether I spoke to any TauMercs.

Betty, following your description, i suspect that mercury signs that trine our sun or our mercury are the ones we get along pretty well. the sextile alittle, but not a lot. you mention leo and sagitarious which trine your sun and then the trine to your moon cancer and scorpio.

in my case it seems similar..i get along pretty well with libra mercury, love them. my mercury in gemini.

i also get along with cancer-piscis-scorpio mercury as they trine my cancer sun.

but the sextile virgo, no way, too narrow view. capricorn, too structure for my taste.

i have not noticed the other signs.

I just had a long @ss reply and it didn't go through! In a rare occasion, I'll try it again.

I'm a Cancer Mercury....

Aries Mercury: My stepbrothers have this, and its been discordiant at best. At one time, I felt like they yell at you more than they actually talk to you. Nowadays I just think they're incredibly egocentric (they're also Aries Suns).

Taurus Mercury: They do take their time to say things and formulate opinions, but that in no way means they're slow or stupid. My grandfather (with Taurus Sun/Virgo Moon) can go into depth about a myriad of subjects. My friend (also a Taurus Sun/Virgo Moon) can talk to you about Cardiac stuff all day. Its her passion, which is why I originally thought she was a Leo Moon. Overall, communication is nice and easy. *edit* I've noticed they're also very good singers...lovely voices.

Gemini Mercury: Ah, technically this should go horribly being a water mercury, but its actually quite fun and interesting to talk to them. My Gemini Venus/5th must be tickled by them. Very smart and very quick.

Cancer Mercury: I only know of one, but most of the conversations are colored more by her Aries Moon and Leo Mars. She is sensitive and does try to be sensitive to others (Cancer Sun as well), and we have a love of history in common...or so it seems. Just not the same periods, apparently.

Leo Mercury: My dad has this. I don't mind it *that much* I just wonder why they're more inclined to talk AT me instead of TO me. I feel like they're always trying some big presidential speech or something..LOL. They aren't the best listeners either.

Virgo Mercury: surprisingly, I don't actually know any.

Libra Mercury: *sigh* I know a few...my mom for one. The communication is cordial, I'll give them that. Their indecisiveness drives me insane. Even if you're asked for your own input and you give it, they still go on with it. We are on two very different pages too: for them they take everything at face value and really don't care to scratch the surface unless they have other water in their chart. Me, I can't. I have an emotional antenna and can always tell true meanings/intent behind words, and read 'vibes' of people and situations. They think this is wrong, wrong, wrong and completely unfair/illogical. Frankly, I don't care.

Scorpio Mercury: I actually know two. One is someone on an LJ group with an almost identical viewpoint to mine, and another is a highschool friend who is planning to publish a book (I love her writing btw). I've noticed the key is that when we're coming from a place of sentiment/feelings (our true selves), we are 100% on the same page. When we're busy trying to placate other people (toning it down, being fake, etc.) then we confuse eachother..LOL. The key is that we're allowed to be 100% our true thoughts around one another, and that's why we probably appreciate it ALOT when we can find eachother.

Sagittarius Mercury: My ex has this, and so does my best friend. Love this placement, but man are there times when I would love to choke them. They tell interesting stories, but the key word here is "stories"...and they expect you to believe them as 100% truth. I hate that. They also love poking fun, but when you bite back...you've totally committed a mortal sin. There is some hypocrisy, in particular with my friend, too. For example, she says if one does not know the language of their heritage, then they have no right to claim that heritage. She's half Cuban and has no trouble repping that...but I speak Spanish better than she does and I'm 100% Mozambican. L.O.L.

Capricorn Mercury: I know of two. One was a hilariously funny Capricorn with the dryest wit ever. Just the typical Rhode Island humor that I loved. The other one is an Aqua I'm currently not speaking to. This Aqua loved to bring on the ire of other people, but when people bit back, she would become very hypersensitive and angry. I do admit this probably has more to do with the conflict between her Aqua/Sag moon and her Venus/Mars conjunction in Pisces. But still....if you can't take the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen. You can't offend me and not expect me to rip you a new one.

Aquarius Mercury: I know alot of people with this sign. At best, I love talking to them. They're very intelligent and have wide variety of experiences and interests. At worst, in the example of my sister, they stubbornly cling to their POV or idea no matter how erroneous or illogical it is. Guess that's the fixed side of them.

Pisces Mercury: I actually know two: an Aqua and an Aries. If I had to choose which Sun a Pisces Mercury goes better with, with only those two as choices, it would be Aries Sun. And yes, I am saying this because I had an awful experience with the Aqua Sun earlier this week (who happens to be my teacher). Basically to me, the Aries KNOWS where you are coming from since they are already an emotional Sun themselves but now, in addition, can also empathize with you. The Aqua with this mercury intellectually understands the importance of sensitivity but will still analyze you like a science project after making your situation a matter of life and death, and THEN is shocked when you lash out at them. WTF? Other than that, communication is quite interesting and engaging. LOL. My favorite songwriters have this placement. Its like poetry.

nordic - yes. That's exactly right!

Benedict - OH! I know how unnerving that is - losing a post. Thank you for typing it all again I really appreciate it.

Actually I see this with all water Mercuries. I can definitely relate to this.

VenusDiSirius -

Do you think that it's impossible for people in general to "feel" what the other is saying/thinking - or do you simply think you personally cannot do this?

Having a Pisces Mercury, I can't say I expect others to spontaneously feel my words or thoughts.
But I do expect them to *try* - specially when it comes to Virgo Mercury.. because it might open their brains to a whole new manner of communication which they were previously unaware of.
I think oppositions should be about learning new things & new ways of seeing the world, but it takes two to tango.. I don't find Virgo Merc very cooperative.

haha, I didn't even read anyone else's until after I finished (re)-typing mine,. So when I read your's,Betty Boop, I was in the twilight-zone because that's pretty much EXACTLY my experience with Libra Mercuries. I seriously feel like you have to give them a written "how to" guide on reading people and situations, which is not exactly possible. You either can or you can't and I've pretty much accepted that about them.

Ha, I love this thread.

Well, I'm a Cancer Mercury and I totally agree with what everyone else has said so far. Except, I do get along very well with my opposite mercury sign. I know a sag, an aqua, and a cap, all with Mercury in Capricorn, and our chemistry is phenomenal. We can talk for hours. Though, I do prefer the Aqua sun, I'm guessing because of our synastry. But, I find she has exactly the same kind of sense of humor as I do.

I don't really vibe with Aqua Mercuries very well. I know two capricorns with this placement, and though i have a sun-venus-mercury stellium with one of them, which helps a ton, we just don't seem to be on the same page.

My favorites are scorpio and pisces mercury of course. So much chemistry! especially with the square suns. I agree with the slight feeling of tension, but in my experience there's been great mental chemistry to help with that. lol. we crack each other up constantly.

My favorite is pisces mercury, though, because like Betty Boop said, there's just this unspoken harmony and understanding. We can communicate with a glance. I can't do that with a scorpio mercury.
