Venus shows what you will love.I get that.
But does it show HOW you will love, also.
So, by definition would that include how you would love yourself.
That would define self esteem.

PS Personal readings is so much fun.Anyone who wants to learn ,come down and jump in. You will be challenged in wonderful ways such as my contemplating this!

For that matter would a Retro Venus make self esteem hard to get?

Then,we have a 12th house Venus.Would that make self esteem very hard to access, also?

Self-value to Venus. Self-esteem to Sun,if I'd to strictly tell them apart.
My Venus is Cancer, and I like to nuture myself,a lot,one may call it self-indulgence

yep I'd agree with the self esteem/value clarification by venusdisirius, except I'd interpret more literally on the value side in that you wouldn't value yourself much if venus is afflicted or should I say you won't value its qualities easily.

I have no problems respecting myself but I do have issues in giving myself value, this manifests quite literally as being unsure as to how much I'm worth for work (venus in 10th)

I know with me I'm a sun in Libra so my ego deals with how beautiful, intelligent, and popular I am.my Venus in Scorpio tones down the lavish elegance and makes me feel seductive and powerful.so with me feeling like that it makes my self esteem sky rocket almost to the point that I would walk out the house looking like a tease and yes it makes feels so good to have powerful beauty and swagg.

Venus could be tied to self worth, Venus acts as a valuing agent.

Self-esteem, however, is tied to the Sun.

yes partly to do with the house and part from the sign itself, my poor venus is in virgo, so I'm supposed to value analysis, efficiency and a few other things which I do, I also value having a career goal and ambition (10th) but what I can't do is put a price on it. But the house is the area in life that we get it from and the sign says how we go about getting it.

I do get self worth from work - or should I say from working towards goals and from being efficient.

Sometimes I battle between fixing a price for my time because a part of me feels its priceless not worthless.

Ok I have Venus in the 7th in Gemini. I love anything of the mind, communication, books etc
How would the 7th house play out.
Would I get my self esteem from partnerships?
Hmmm
Does that make me a natural co-dependent

My Venus is in Scorpio in my 1st house (appearance). My self-esteem relies greatly on my appearance and how I feel about my looks. If I feel I look ugly or unattractive, I am depressed and miserable. If I feel I look good, I express my true self easily and feel confident and happy all the time. It seems shallow, but I have ALWAYS been like this.

YESSSS... I would agree with that. I feel that for me, it's not so much that I don't value MYSELF (because I DO value myself), but I don't feel like I value the Venusian QUALITIES in myself. I have Venus retrograde (in Virgo, squaring Chiron in the 7th, Jupiter in the 1st). I think that sometimes, being the Venus retrograde that I am, I feel like I have to protect myself (because I feel super sensitive internally; thank you chiron) and to do that, I have to be very survivalist and SUPER independent. Only recently (after my sun progressed into Libra) did I allow anyone to give to ME and only now have I really been seeing the value of allowing others to help me. It's camaraderie, partnership, and teamwork (Libra) over independence and individualism (Aries).

Yes yes, I have Venus in Cap conjunct Saturn o_o
Well needless to say I don't have that great of self-esteem. I can get very insecure when it comes to doing my best and failing. Its in my second house, hmm not sure how that plays out. My possessions and money really play not part in my self esteem.

Guys, self-esteem is the Sun, not Venus.

To emphasize this point, when someone talks about self-actualization, they are speaking about the Sun in astrology, not Venus.

Sun can have you trapped at a desk job selling yourself short, when you dream of being a comic book artist, so you work on your lunch break making your own comic strip to sell to realize that dream. Self esteem can be built by challenging your pre-conceived limits.

Venus can have you trapped in a dead end relationship with you feeling as if no one else would want you so you better stay cos this is as good as it's gonna get. So one day it clicks and you look back at all the other people who were interested in you and you see that he is not the only one out there and that you deserve better. Self worth can be challenged by placing a higher price on your value.

I hope you see the difference now.

I found this related to the Hero's Journey, which is perfect for the Sun

quote:
Followers of astrology are often given an idea that they are supposed to be like their Sun sign, but often it works the other way around: the Sun sign presents us with a kind of objective, and we can gradually develop into that as we live and grow. (...) The Sun symbolizes your capacity to self-actualize your potential through the Hero/ine's journey. The Sun is present- and future-oriented, because you are engaged in the process of becoming. So your Sun sign and the house of your Sun (these are two different things; for the house of your Sun, you would need to cast your chart, with your correct birth time) represent an area of life you are actively exploring (daytime/yang) and in the process of developing and refining.

Hmm...I don't see how my Sun affects my self-esteem at all. But I see how my Venus does.

Sun in Capricorn, 2nd house, conjunct Neptune
