Let's talk about Aspects a bit more. I have a fairly good idea how they work now. At least I think so. Something that still confuses me are all the aspects "competing" against each other. For example you have Mercury in aspects to six other planets. Some of the interpretations contradict each other. Mercury conjuncts Venus and squares Mars for example, so how would you interpret it? The description for these two aspects are as different as day and night. Contradictions like that come my way more often now that I'm doing charts for friends and family. So how do you conclude the "strength" or dominance of one aspect over the other? Is a squre more dominant than a conjunction? Would the person switch between the two? How important are the degrees?

In my personal opinion, they blend. Sometimes they switch (oppositions and conjunctions), but most of the time, the blending takes place. Orbs are very important. And signs too - I think that a Mercury conjunct Venus in Pisces would be override a "weaker" Mars in Gemini. To me this is the trickiest part of interpreting a chart - blending all the different energies together and I look forward to hearing answers from the great astrologers we have here.IP: Logged |

I'd say u fight for what u believe with arguments based on deduction, and conclusions out of rational experience. U speak loudly and fast, but it is eloquent conversation,u know how to express urself in best possible way. Merc/Venus apart,do u have pretty handwritting, know to sketch? I have never met a conj without this traits. Agree with Maira,it is about blending, and it's most noticable precisely with contradictive aspects.IP: Logged |

Yes,Maira I think this way, too, and Hello There are chart dispositors which weigh each planet. This would order it, more.

In a (oversimplified) nutshell regarding good/bad : Conjunction - intensifies the status quo Opposition – challenges the status quo Trine – maintains the status quo Square – shatters the status quo Sextile - plays with the status quo None are good or bad – they can all be done in a good or bad way, depending on the intent of the owner. As for strength - I agree with what the others said. i think it depends on the person...sometimes, with me, they do switch....i have mercury singleton in sag conjunct my scorpio sun square my leo moon in the 3rd....i do tend to have speaking problems as well as sun/moon issues....my leo moon fights to the surface often and sometimes my scorpio sun will allow it and other times it'll supress it....and when my sun is doing neither its blendingand i agree with what taineberry said about none of the aspects being "good or bad" i see them as either harmonious or difficult ------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

In terms of strength, I've read that it goes:1. The Conjunction is felt most strongly.. 2. Opposition 3. Square 4. Trine 5. Sextile It does sort of work... because often when I see a conjunction in a chart it stands out. The two planets become *one*. The conjunction is then read as a unit... so instead of Mercury being under pressure from a square... or Venus being under pressure from a square -- you would look at it as -- this "unit" of Mercury/Venus (conjunct).. is under pressure. They're in it 'together'. Next in strength would be the opposition. I knew a man who had Mars opposite Pluto, both squaring Jupiter. This definitely played out as a Mars/Pluto opposition on steroids. It did not play out as a Mars/Jupiter square... amplified by Pluto. The *main* aspect/'centre stage' - seemed to be the opposition... and Jupiter added to this vibe. IP: Logged |

I really like sextiles. Zesty little things.. Like peper. U know dish isn't the right without it. Sextiles r cool Squares r powerhouses. Oppostions r messy. I don't have them(there is one of separating 7 degrees orb) So,when I have oppositions through transits.. Ain't pretty.IP: Logged |

Lol, I think it's a matter of personal taste and that it comes down to the natal - I consider conjunctions to be powerhouses and I love oppositions. Finding that middle ground, the place where you can reconcile two seemingly completely different energies, yeap, pepper. Except when Saturn is involved, Saturn is just sawdust in your food IP: Logged |
