My question surrounds the dominance of particular astrological elements in relation to harmony within romantic relationships and partnerships. I am a Air/Fire dominant personality, Sun Libra, Aquarius Rising, Moon Aries, and I've had a couple substantial partnerships that have greatly influenced me as an individual.

One pattern I noticed within these relationships is there was a plethora of mutual passion but a lack of mental communication and honest emotional expression(aspects were varying and had an influence but those in my experience are manageable). I consider myself to be pretty balanced, with complementary elements however I find it almost impossible to establish anything substantial with someone who doesn't share a very similar elemental make-up. The past relationships have been:

Fire/Water: in my experience there was a significant lack in mental communication, and as an Air sign clear communication is incredibly important, I feel like I'm suffocating without it.
Air/Earth: in my experience there was a lack in his ability to express himself emotionally, and my soft Venusian nudges to help him open up didn't help.

Does any one else share or oppose this conclusion? Or are there those who have been happily engaged in elementally varied relationships? Any insight would be highly appreciated.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be.

I'm a sun sign Libra and I have 4 planets in water in my chart (I have two planets in every other element).

I don't do romantic or physical relationships (partnership is important to me, just not in *that* way--yes, unusual for a Libra, but it makes sense with my other placements). However, with other kinds of relationships, I can definitely relate. I personally cannot stand it when people do not communicate with me. It really activates all of my insecurities and doubts. My Mercury is in Libra; I'm very reserved initially, but once I get to know someone a little and like that person, I LOVE to talk and learn more about him/her and to share ideas. I get really upset when people don't reciprocate. I feel like I'm annoying or bothering that person and like they don't want me around. Two people--one Mercury Virgo, one Mercury Scorpio--have been hard for me to deal with because while I like both of them, I feel like I just constantly irritate them just by talking to them at all and like I burden them simply by being around. I feel that way whenever *anyone* shuts down communication or doesn't respond, especially if they *do* respond to other people. At this point, I'm just going to avoid both of them; I really don't see any other way out of it.

As someone with a lot of water in her chart, and (Jupiter, Moon, Pluto, and Venus in water), I really am more sensitive than I really like to admit. I really feel a deep need to feel connected and valued, and am not secure with relationships to other people. Coupled with an air sign sun and Mercury, it leads to me not feeling loved or cared about when people don't communicate. On the opposite side, communication and shared experiences are what make me feel loved and connected; when I *do* have communication, all is right with the world for me.

With Mercury ruling communication, I think that it's very important to look at this in another person's chart to know what you are in for, if you have their birth date and time and are able to do that. While I wouldn't go as far as to dislike someone just because of a bad Mercury/incompatible Mercury, I would be more cautious in the future about wanting to get to know those who won't be able to communicate well with me. I need to feel loved and connected, and if someone can't be that kind of friend for me, then it's better to just stay detached and keep the relationship as a light 'acquaintanceship' rather than a true *friendship*. It's not fair to be unreasonably demanding on my part, but it's also not fair on their part to not at least try to meet me halfway. If someone just can't do that, it's better that we just don't get close so neither side will get disappointed: they with perceiving me as 'demanding' and me perceiving them as uncaring or distant or annoyed.

Thanks Randall! Happy to be here!

Hey RegardesPlatero, thank you for your insights. As a fellow Libra I relate to everything you said about communication and feeling like you drive friends or partners crazy with gabbing and just needing to express your thoughts and ideas through communication. On top of my elemental dominance in Air/Fire, I have a heavy 8th house. Which gives me quite a lot of perceptive ability and intensity. I've even got my Mercury in Libra in the 8th. So not only do I need communication it needs to be quite deep. Only the raw naked truth. One of my past partners had Mercury in Cancer square my Mercury in Libra. Communication was impossible, passion however was the beginning and end of this relationship. It was hard to let go but we just couldn't communicate with each other clearly.

With my Mercury I can always tell if partners or even friends are lying which makes it especially frustrating when they are unable to communicate, because I always know. I just want honesty and clear communication. And I always feel like their hiding something and I think I scare people with my mental capabilities, especially those who feel incapable of being able to effectively express themselves. It's tough all around and my 8th house just adds such intensity to the mix.
