How would you describe your mental capabilities? How much of an influence would you say Mercury's House position in your Natal Chart has an effect on your thoughts and way of thinking?

I've got Mercury in Libra in the 8th and I can be very critical as well as suspicious when it comes to my thoughts. Sometimes when I'm having a conversation with someone (face to face), I'm so aware of what they're saying and their non verbal cues my mind goes into a frenzy. I have to slow myself down mentally to focus on the conversation or I might just say something that I shouldn't because my words are trying to catch up with my thoughts. For example when my friends ask me for advice I have to focus or I might tell them exactly what I'm thinking about their situation which may irritate them. I feel sometimes a compulsive need to tell the truth when it comes to giving advice, even if it's hurtful. Sometimes I can't help it because my Mercury in the 8th doesn't like to talk crap only to make someone feel better. Any who, how would you describe the relationship you have with your Natal Mercury and it's House position in your chart?

I've got my Mercury in Libra as well, but in the first. I'm above average when it comes to intelligence, but that's in the sense of math, science, etc.

The Libra is pre' clear to me. I will strive for objectivity and a clear, dare I say, balanced view on things.

I also take things pretty plainly and at face value...like, I don't make connections. EXAMPLE!

There is the movie critic online, Nostalgia Critic if any of ya'll have heard of 'im. His mannerisms and how he presents his opinions are EXACTLY like this one girl I know. I didn't realize until someone else pointed it out. I guess that's the first house influence (house of Aries, Aries is fast and plain, no time or desire to think beyond.)

My mental capabilities are pretty good, I'm not an imbecile loool.

Mercury in Leo, seventh house.

Quintile Pluto in the eighth; contraparallel Uranus in Scorpio in the 9th, conjunct MC.

I'm one of those people who loves hearing what others think about various things. I remember years back having a friend tell me that they don't read YouTube comments at all and I was completely shocked by that and wondered how it's even possible not to be curious about other people's opinions on even the most mundane or shallow, insignificant s**t. It's for that reason that I think I have such a love affair with forums. I just love the ability to read different opinions from people all over the world with various beliefs, backgrounds and experiences and like to be exposed to as many different perspectives as possible.

Also, I've always had this innate ability to see 'through' people, but the sign my Mercury is in as well as some of the other activity in my chart usually keeps me silent on most of what I see and pick up on, out of compassion. Mercury in Leo IS ruled by the heart, after all. Four planets in Libra, so I also feel like it's rude. Neptune singleton, I don't want to hurt people.

Plus to be really honest about it - it's something every last person on this planet does; no one is totally wide-open, honest and completely themselves all the time. And it actually isn't safe to be. It's natural for people to have various personas they don around certain people and to keep some things private and have walls and boundaries. We're all fake because it's an innate survival mechanism that's necessary in this world to protect ourselves. Anyone who insists they're 100 percent 'real' is a liar. We all have masks, and I feel like as long as the other person isn't doing anything to hurt others, it's not my place to go around trying to tear theirs off. I just smile politely and nod instead in most cases.

I've got Mercury in cancer in eighth. It definitely has a major bearing on my thinking and mental capabilities. I'm in a profession where I interview others for information. I have a knack for quickly getting information and for getting to the bottom of the issue. For a period in my life, I had an ear to a lot of gossip. You could say that it satisfied my eighth house tendencies. You might couple this with my mercury trine pluto, but I think the mercury in eighth gives a certain power to my speech and an ability to persuade.

My mental abilities are average. I'm pretty smart, but my tendency to daydream (mercury in the 12th) can drag me down at times, if not all of the time 'cause it's really hard for me to stop daydreaming!

I have Mercury in Taurus.. Ever since I was 4 I've wanted to be a singer, in fact I was even in training (or a school of arts/for singers/whatever-they're-called), buuutttt then I moved.. things changed and I stopped pursuing my dream, the end(:

Mercury in the 12th.. ahh well, besides daydreaming I also "hear" people's thoughts (at times).. creepy, I know..

& I also have a hard time explaining myself.

It's so interesting hearing about how different people think. I personally think the human mind is one of the most fascinating things in the world. I always want to find out more when it comes to thoughts and other people's perceptions of life and truth and basically everything.

I actually have the same thing happen to me as far as gossip goes and information and like you my Mercury is in the 8th. It can get pretty frustrating because I always feel like I know too much when it comes to other people. More than I think they'd like me to know. On top of that people tell me a lot about themselves, within a very short period of time. It's funny because I'm not a Scorpio but I've read that Scorpio's want to know everything about another but reveal very little about themselves. My Eighth House Mercury makes me act that way but I don't intentionally try to keep secrets it just happens that people end up revealing more than me. Then I feel bad because I'm not sure how they feel about me knowing so much. Yet their words have a great effect on me. Everything someone says to me influences my perception. It's not that I take things personally, it's just that the puzzle begins to look different as you gather more pieces.

I've also got Mercury and the Sun in the 8th house and its in Leo. I'm a big skeptic, I never take things at face value and I can be very secretive about how I'm actually feeling at times. I've never felt that intelligent, because I'm not the best at expressing it, it takes me while to put my smarty pants on...

I also am critical of other people's body language and over analyze it at times. I'm highly sensitive to my surroundings in general and people's mood (that could be Pisces Moon in the 3rd though).

i have mercury on the cusp of virgo/libra in the 6th house conjunct my sun and mars in libra. its also apart of my t-square which consists of uranus/saturn/neptune and jupiter. since my moons in virgo and i have my sun and mars in the 6th its hard for me to tell what the influence is from.. bbuuuut im deffinately a very critical, analytical and detail orientated person. im constantly self analyzing myself and in deep introspection about all my actions always trying to improve or change things in myself i dont like. i consider what i eat all the time for my health and i have hypochondriac tendencies, but i try to mellow that out ha cause i over think things waaaaaay too much. i would say im good at crafty things or anything artistic, and i can usually pick up on stuff fairly quick and retain a lot that i read or hear, im deffinately mentally restless, that could be due to several factors like my merc/mars conjunction squaring uranus pretty tightly, and my jupiter in the 3rd house being apart of my t-sqaure opposing my uranus/saturn/neptune in the 9th/8th house cusp for uranus and all those squaring my sun/mars/merc in the 6th. all those houses being mental houses ruled my mercury and jupiter. i think either my moon or my merc or just both affect my tummy, cause if im ever stressing out or worried i get tummy upsets and if im nervous or anxious i poop ha and thats probably due to me just thinking too much about stuff i shouldnt be thinking of for more than 10 minutes. my mental restlessness gives me a hard time falling asleep most nights and i like to contemplate about every kind of subject, but my favorite topics to wonder about are usually philosphical or mystical in some way or just make things up like word salads. i feel that im pretty perceptive about things and i think its from my t-sqaure and all that energy.

i always wonder how you could even tell whos thinking faster than who, cause no ones ever not thinking and our minds are never slowing down, unless you meditate. but i guess youd have to take tests to see? but even then everyones specialized in one thing or the other in an interest and they could be faster at that something than someone else.. right? ha

I'm curious about quick mental capabilities too. I had a friend who had her Mars in Aries and her Mercury in Virgo and she used to talk incredibly fast. It was nuts. It was like she was challenging me to a conversation battle. Who knows what was going on in that brain but it was like watching a dying light bulb flicker. No offense to dying light bulbs. Fast talkers throw me for a loop. I never know what to make of them and I've noticed they're bad listeners. At least the ones I've known. I talk at a slightly above average speed but I pause a lot to gather my thoughts or then I say too much and have to backtrack. Some people find it weird when I pause, but it's that Mercury in Libra always wanting to come to the most balanced conclusion. Fast talkers are just a bit much for me and I wonder if they talk fast because they think fast or their just experiencing word regurgitation. I respect people who take their time when their speaking (not too much time though).
